They saw what Addy did to the Brewers in the previous game. Not a lot of holes in this lineup. Fucking love me some Anthony Rizzo.
For all the posting itt about the bullpen they've held up pretty well after some shitty starting pitching a few days in a row now.
Jeimer Candelario is lighting up triple-A .309/.415/.691 Happ's been pretty unlucky outside of his power display (.211 BAPIP). .246/.303/.607 overall
He had a base hit stolen from him the other by a great play (happ) Don't know how much this means if anything, but Bleacher Nation has Candelario as the Cubs #2 prospect overall.
Trevor Clifton, who emerged as one of our better pitching prospects after dominating the Carolina League last year, out-dueled super-prospect and posterboy Michael Kopech a few nights ago. The walks are high but he's gotten off to a bright start at double-A. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=milb&player_id=641461#/career/R/pitching/2017/ALL
The probable starter, Duncan Robinson, is interesting; he was their 9th round pick out of Dartmouth last June. 6'6" lanky righty who doesn't throw particularly hard but has a plus curve and control. The comparisons to fellow Dartmouth grad Hendricks are already out there. We'd be so lucky. Looks like Dakota Mekkes pitched last night, fast-track relief prospect with a Carter Capps-Ian style delivery. He won't stay in South Bend long. DJ Wilson is the most prominent position player. Cubs drafted him two years ago early on and paid him over slot to pry him away from Vanderbilt. Slightly built center fielder with 70 speed and more pop than you'd expect. He's off to a rough start but had a great game last night.
Cool thanks. I admittedly don't pay much attention to prospects even though I go to quite a few South Bend games. I didn't know who Torres was until I googled him after noticing he was pretty easily the best player out there. Then he started getting talked about on here.
There are some interesting arms there including Tyson Miller and Chad Hockin. And after this summers draft (1st week of June) the roster ought to become more interesting (Cubs have two picks in the first 30).
Wilson is fast and can make plaaaaaays in the OF. Not much bat as of now but that could come down the line. The one I'd keep my eye on is Wladimir Galindo. Big bodied 3B out of Venezuela who could be a name we're talking about a whole lot by the time the season is done. You don't have to look up his number. The ball looks and sounds different coming off his bat. Also Dakota Mekkes is a giant they drafted out of MSU last year and he has been dominant, but he won't be pitching today.
Duncan Robinson and DJ Wilson? I thought this was a Michigan basketball troll then looked up the SB Cubs roster. What are the odds?
If for any reason you are near South Bend hit up a Cubs game. They continue making the experience better. So well done and the team is good too. GGCD you were right his first AB I saw Galindo walk to the plate then looked away to get my daughter a peanut. That ball sounded completely different off his bat as he smoked one to right. We were on the third base line and watched his d a lot. Good tools but inconsistent right now.
visa Wilson did look legit. His range is great. His bat was meh. But he had a few good hard hit balls., you could see the potential, really solid base runner too. Bryan Hudson got the start big lanky 6'8 kid only 2 hits but hit 3 guys. Robinson came in in relief but not until after we had to leave because, well, toddler.
Lester has got to be fuming. Nothing but bad luck and bad defense and we're only an inning and a third in.
