i don't really give a shit about peppers. even if he busts, we have 3 first rounders and a million other picks in this draft plus like 5 1st/2nd rounders next year. we're not going to hit on all of them. my main issue with the pick is i just don't know what peppers is at this level. watching him at michigan, he seemed like an average player in a superstar's body. he played a bunch of different positions, but i never felt like he stood out at any of them

What was the pressing need for the TE? Why move up to get that pick? I was almost expecting them to move up to get Adams at 6, or move up to get Hooker

TE is definitely a need. There's a reason why so many mocks thought Howard at 12

Njoku is the type of Flex TE they needed because you can put him and Gary on the field together and create some matchup problems. They desperately need weapons on offense, and he checks that box.

I personally really liked the move up to grab him.

what SugarShaun and HotMic said. TE was definitely a position of need and Njoku was great value at that point in the draft. Athletic freak, huge upside, great blocker, can play day 1. All he needs is some good coaching and a QB to get him the ball (I think Cody can do that).

I also kinda look at the Peppers and Njoku picks as 'we just stole two guys from the steelers'.

This made me feel somewhat better about Peppers. Still lukewarm about it and it's mostly due to being inherently biased against UM players.

I thought one of the knocks on Njoku was that he was not a great blocking TE. I'm willing to trust this staff, so I'm not gonna complain, let's just see what happens. It can't be any worse, right? Right?????

Well if at least 1 of our guys from last night is in the league 3 years from now it's better than the Gilbert/Manziel draft so there's that

The bar is very low. Dumb luck would say this draft must be better than.....any draft we've had the past 15 year? 3 first round picks, they can't all bust.

he's not a perfect run blocking TE, but he's very very good. The knock on his blocking is that he struggles run blocking against certain types of guys (but who doesn't). The biggest knock, imo, was his drops and catching in traffic.

He's gonna be split out wide often, Recent comp I heard was Travis Kelce where you can use him on bubble screens, great run after the catch (when he does catch it) ability. Only played football for two years I believe, so he'll get better. super smart kid from a great family. He has 6 or 7 brothers and sisters and NFL player is the least impressive job title.

Hated the Peppers pick because I thought he was supremely overrated. Greg Williams was creative with the SS position so I think he'll carve out a role for him. Also browns got crushed by TEs the last few years, hopefully he's big and fast enough to cover TEs. If he can do that in nickel situations, return and cover kicks, he'll be productive for them.

Now I'm confused. We just released Gary Barnidge. That was going to be a really good combo at TE.

IMO they overthought it again. Hooker, Howard, and even Jon Allen if we're talking BPA all would have been major contributors and were good value at that point. Wouldn't have dreamed we'd have our choice of the three of them at 12.

Sure, they got a haul for the pick and if the Texans flop this year we have a TON of '18 draft capital, but at some point you just need to get very talented young guys in the system. Hooker isn't riskless but he's about as safe as you can get to be a starter at safety for the forseeable future, why give that up just to gamble on Peppers at 25, even if we do pick up another first?

I have no problem trading up for the TE but don't understand releasing Gary.

All in all, not a terrible draft but it's a real headscratcher that they were sitting on a stud at 12 in a number of positions and traded down to gamble.

Trading out of 12 had everything to do with getting their QB next draft.

They're going to get whoever they want next year, and have more than enough to do so.

Mary Kay Cabot continuing to say that we're exploring Jimmy G trade. Also, Rapoport said that we approached the Bengals about McCarron, but that the price was too high. This on top of the Rapoport report last night saying we were looking into trading for Cousins.

Do you guys buy any of this shit? On their own, they each sound dumb, but add them all together and there's a little too much smoke for my liking. I don't want any of them.

It makes sense. They're just doing a market check on a handful' of potentially available QBs and if the ask for one is way outside of the others they'd try to pursue. I think it's more of an exercise in seeing if one is way outside of market vs. actually loving one of those QBs.

Barnidge had one productive year, dropped off significantly after he signed the contract extension. Part of it could have been because of the QB issue, but it's not like he had significant production in the past outside of 2015. They must still be expecting a big jump from Seth Devalve.

Apparently I am the only one who wouldn't have wanted Hooker at 12. I'm meh on the Peppers pick (don't hate it, don't love it), but overall liked what they did. I believe they got the best player in the draft at #1 which is all you can ask for.

    Love the Kizer pick.

Name a college quarterback who goes into the game-plan meetings on Monday and throws his notes at the coaches. No one else game plans the way he does. No one else prepares the way he does. No one else knows football the way he does. No one else is as big as he is. No one else is as powerful a runner as he is.

Pat Mahomes might throw the ball 80 yards and he can only throw the ball 72, but I guarantee he can’t throw an out route the way Kizer can. No one else can do what he can do. If he can maximize all his potential in every aspect of the game – this is bold – he does have the ability to be the greatest quarterback to ever play. Imagine taking Brady’s intellect and Brady’s preparation and putting it on a guy with Cam Newton’s body. Why can’t he be the greatest? The only thing stopping him from it is him.

Disagree but they've given themselves the ability to take shots like that by acquiring a ton of picks
