Thats at club 47 on jordan lane. It was the old green room. I guess they just started doing this on Mondays. Shits crazy.
My cousin just told me that he is stationed in Huntsville for the next 6 weeks for training for his job. He won't have time to do much during the week, but his weekends will be open. What should I tell him to check out while he's there?
Another city? Seriously i think whistlestop may be during that time? UncleJesse Phil Connors Not sure how much the nightlife has changed or improved the last 3 years.
He's married with kids. He won't care much about nightlife. He will want to identify every good restaurant in the area before he leaves though.
Whistle Stop. If he is in to craft beers, there are some good breweries in the area to hit up. Straight to Ale, Yellowhammer, Mad Malts, Rocket Republic, Blue Pants, etc.
Mezza Luna is really good Italian that I highly recommend but often forget to visit. Spaghetti bolognese. Bandito Burrito dive mexican joint Rosie's for a cleaner mexican experience
Chuck Wagon bbq in Madison for bbq, cheeburger cheeburger for burger, po boys for cajun, beauregards for hot wings, straight to ale for beers and dinner. Fancier places have already been listed.
To add to what’s mentioned above: Campus 805. This is an “entertainment district” built in and around an old school. It houses a bar (Lone Goose), two breweries (Straight to Ale and Yellowhammer), a sushi restaurant (Rock n Roll) and a craft beer bar (Wish You Were Beer). The breweries are both kid friendly and each serve good food (pub fare at STA and pizza at Yellowhammer). There is a huge greenspace connecting the breweries and there are almost always kids running wild out there. This is probably the most unique/best thing Huntsville has to offer right now. Fine dining restaurants are mentioned above, but I’ll add The Bottle. It is really good, but also really expensive. Also, the taco bus for Mexican if he likes traditional (non American) style Mexican food. There are a bunch of BBQ places around here. I’d recommend the Chuck Wagon which, oddly enough, serves Texas style BBQ. The brisket and sausage are incredible. Teds and Moe’s are also good. There are a few places out of town I’d recommend if he is looking to drive somewhere. There is a cool beer bar downtown called OTBX, although that is not an ideal place for kids. If he or his kids like old school arcade game/pinball, tell him to check out Pints and Pixels. Don’t eat there, though. Food is not good. Viet Huong or Viet Cuisine for Vietnamese. Thai Garden for Thai. Po Boy Factory or Tim’s Cajun Kitchen are both pretty good and will be serving crawfish this time of year. Sam n Greg’s on the square has great pizza and gelato. Family friendly place. He might want to check out Lowe Mill if he’s into the arts at all. Huntsville has done a good job of promoting the city and organizing various activities during the spring (food truck rallies, beer and wine festivals, etc.) So, there may be events going on while he’s here that are worth checking out. Oh, and the “entertainment districts” are areas where there is no open container law from Thursday to Sunday. Nice to be able to order a beer to go and walk around downtown, etc.
Indeed. I did not know there is a Jordan Lane Betty Mae's location. Jordan Lane location is open Monday-Saturday and the other location is closed on Saturday but open on Sunday. Not a bad lunch after church on Sunday.
Oh yea Eric The Viking he definitely needs to hit up one of the food truck festivals if they have one while he is here. Shameless plug for I Love Bacon truck. If he wants to run out to Cullman (about 30 minutes or so I guess depending on where he is) Johnny's is really good BBQ at least imo.
The owner/operator of Betty Mae’s used to work for a client. She was constantly in trouble for not working/leaving to work at the restaurant. On one occasion she used the client’s supplies to bake a red velvet cake at the client’s office. She actually had to cook it twice because the first time it didn’t come our right. She did this while she was supposed to working. The red velvet cake was last straw for my client and they decided to fire her. She sued. We ended up having a 2-3 day trial over her termination. The “red velvet cake incident” and her repeated absences from work to oversee Betty Mae’s were significant parts of the trial. She was on the stand for probably a day and she got heated on several occasions. Ultimately, we won. Her termination was upheld and her case was dismissed. Shortly thereafter, I started hearing how great Betty Mae’s was. Everyone raved about the fried chicken, and, of course, the red velvet cake. Anytime it was suggested for lunch, I refused to go. I knew she would recognize me and I didn’t want her to mess with my food. This went on for 2-3 years. Well, about a month ago a group of folks from my office decided to check it out for lunch. Afterwards, they would not shut up about how good everything was. I let them talk me into going the next week. So, we get there and I’m last in line. 4-5 people from my office in front of me and 2-3 people in front of them. I shit you not, I was inside the door for less than a minute before Betty Mae comes around the counter and points a finger directly at me. “I know you.” Shit. I turn around and pray there is someone behind me. Nope. Nobody from my office moves at all. They all act like they’d never seen me before. “You. Yeah, you. Where do I know you from? What’s your name?” Goddammit. I tell her my name. Fortunately, she can’t place me. “Oh well, I know I know you from somewhere.” I placed my order and prayed she didn’t connect the dots. I don’t know if she did or not, but the food was incredible. Especially the red velvet cake.
Big Bob's in Decatur, home of the famous white sauce. And it isn't a visit to Madison without a stop at Jimmy's.
Yeah I think we are locked and loaded - I can't get away from work until tomorrow but they have our site already set up (stage view) and I'll be over tomorrow afternoon. gonna be rainy af tomorrow but saturday looks awesome.

Nice. Saturday looks great. Its going to be cold tomorrow. The last time I cooked in Whistlestop was 5-6 years ago. It got really cold Friday night. We got to our spot early Saturday morning and were going about our business getting ready for the day when we heard the guys cooking next to us raising hell. At some point in the middle of the night, a random drunk guy got so cold he decided it would be a good idea to sleep inside their smoker. I took the picture below right before they woke him up.
How does whistlestop work? I'd like to watch whats left of the MTB and drink beer. Brandon Chicken dawgonit
What's the MTB? There are a bunch of teams with tents set up around the depot. People generally hang around the tents and drink and eat all day. Not much to it. If you don't have a tent to go to it's probably not that fun.
Well someone throw in a couple extra cold snacks in the cooler for Jules and I pay you back Saturday night.
