I'm excited for Lego Batman As soon as I saw the scene in the trailer where Joker is devastated at not being Batman's bae villain I was in.
Minor thing: Spoiler Wish the fight with the deaf chick would have been a little longer. They kinda built her up to be a badass but she was disposed of pretty quickly. Guess she could still be alive since he left her to bleed out or whatever.
I really want a prequel about the impossible task night. Spoiler would tie in well to this movie and the marker [\spoiler]
speaking to a friend recently, who works with Chad Stahelski on things, there is an end game of prequels/spin-offs for the John Wick world. this film is projected for 30m and that's GREAT!
Thought it started a tad slow, but holy shit does it pick up the pace. Overall liked it more than the original. Rewatching part 1 right now
lol fair point. I suppose "started" wasn't the best phrasing, but after the opening scene it felt like it took a while for another big action beat.
So what is the time gap between one and 2? I originally thought it was immediately after but then the dog threw me off
Ok go easy on me here, but I hate animal abuse - watching that puppy get brutally killed in the first John Wick was awful. Can someone spoil it for me and telling ahead of time if there is anymore animal abuse in part 2? Spoiler Please say no
Spoiler I think the prologue is mere days after, but the main thrust of the movie has to be some time later.
Saw it tonight. Great movie. Only thing I wish is Spoiler that he'd have killed the guy outside the continental. That way he'd have some back up John seemed to be really into the rules so I was shocked he did that.
Also Spoiler they all say I'll be seeing you John when they are about to die. Kinda like I'll be seeing you in another life.
First movie cost a measly 20 million and made almost 90 Second one cost 40 and made 160. I'm sure the studio couldn't greenlight part 3 fast enough.
My son met him today in Santa Monica. Said he was down to earth and seemed to like and care that my son loved the movies.
I thought they were equally as good for different reasons, 1 was good for the action, 2 was good for the world building
Agreed, and his fight with common was badass too. I'm just saying that what I walked away liking about the first one was the action while what I walked away liking about the second one was the shit around the action; how the continental actually fits in to that world, planning how he was going to kill the chick with people like the sommelier, Laurence Fishburne with his pigeons, etc.
I thought it was insanely too much world building. It seems in the John Wick Universe, there are more international hitmen than civilians. Also, the motivations for the action were so much better in the first 1. It was personal. And, if you're going to build Ruby Rose as a badass, she needs to do ONE badass thing. She doesn't do anything.
It's a movie, didn't really care Disagree. The first movie, the motivation fit for the story they were trying to tell but the catalyst was still "punk killed my dog". Let's not fool ourselves into thinking it was Shakespeare. The first movie was made for the badass action sequences, the plot was just a vehicle to tie the sequences together. I agree, I didnt really give a shit about the character and the movie didn't really give me any reason to The only other thing I will say abou the world building is that in light of the ending, it is disappointing that they spent so much time showing those aspects only to seemingly not use them in any upcoming sequel
Don't know how you got that from what I wrote but the 2nd was better because it had good action and more of a story and setting then the first
I usually disagree with drew on everything, but I'm fully team 1 was better than 2 here. I don't think 2 was bad, but it did lack motivation. It built a lot of world, but also just left a lot to be desired in story behind some of the world they built. Sure, they'll probably clear up a lot of that in 3, but 1 was a good stand alone movie, and 2 needs more context.
haven't seen the 2nd one but "the story" in the first one was "A retard crime boss's son kills an ex-hitman's dog and ex-hitman comes out of retirement and kills the gang" Honestly doesn't seem like THAT complex of a plot to top but I'll hold off until I see the 2nd one.
I know that is the simplest way to put the plot for 1, but there were still more motivation behind the story. Guy leaves a dark life behind for the love of a woman, woman gets sick and dies and then the day he buries her random dickhead decides to kill the last gift she ever gave to him. Random dickhead ends up dragging man back into dark life that he left. There isn't nearly as much motivation behind the story in 2, imo.
word - and most of that you stated was all thrown into the first ~15 minutes of JW1 during that world-building. escalatedquickly.gif end of the day people are going for the action and not a gripping plot. it's keanu
You left off the final act of the first movie. Also, I preferred the action in the first movie. The nightclub fight scene is still my fav of the whole series.
wait what was the "plot" of the JW1 final act? I said he killed the gang... It's been a few months since I've seen it
Then, he killed the son. That was the end of it....until the boss killed Dafoe. THEN, you had the final act where he comes after the boss for revenge about Dafoe.
Just because you can summarize a movie in one sentence doesn't mean there's no plot. A guy travels a long way to drop a ring into a volcano. I just summarized the plot of an entire 12 hour long trilogy.
ah you just compared summarizing the plot of John Wick in 1 sentence (which is very doable) to summarizing the plot of LOTR Trilogy in one sentence (absurd) I'm out
