I'll be honest, I haven't paid any attention to it until now. The water on the left made it seem much more dangerous than I had anticipated. I was watching Golf Channel around 8:30 and they said only one guy had gone for it at that point, resulting in a birdie. They also mentioned that Day had discussed using his 2 iron to clear the water and roll it up to the green.
I used to go a bunch when I lived there, but haven't been since 2012. I'm hoping I can score a cheap grounds ticket for tomorrow. My parents live in Atlantic Beach, so not too far away.
Makes sense. Rory was discussing it and said you basically need to hit a perfect cut driver into it to hold the green. Anything that hits the left side of the green or has right to left spin is going in the water. And the mounding right of the green is basically an impossible up and down. Chances are they'll soften it in years to come. Otherwise the purpose of the renovation will be lost.
A guy on the Golf Club Traders page on FB has some VIP tickets going for $85 on Saturday. Free food and beer in the tent, next to 17, if anyone is looking https://www.facebook.com/groups/625888580794386/?fref=nf
Looked through the last few pages and didn't see this posted. If koepka gets a hole in one this weekend or at some other tourneys this year you get a bunch of free beer. http://www.roundonbrooks.com/
Pops scored a couple free tickets from a neighbor, so I'll be headed out early this morning. Gonna be hot as piss out. Will try to sneak a flask in.
Played a couple rounds yesterday at Compass Pointe in Leland, North Carolina (right outside Wilmington). Think it's the first course built in NC in 6 years but it's a really nice course. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a course to play in the Wilmington area.
http://www.golfchannel.com/news/golf-central-blog/pro-shoots-127-us-open-local-qualifying/ I thought this was hilarious until I talked to a buddy of mine who knew him when he was an assistant pro at his home course in Meridian, MS. Apparently, the dude is extremely nice, but not a very good golfer. On top of that, he has Tourette syndrome, which "flares up" at times. This, apparently, was one of those times. Can't believe he finished the round.
Think in the $70 range but can't say for sure. We were playing in a tournament that afternoon so that was "free" but since it was a 12:30 start decided to get 18 in that morning. Paid $30 for 9 holes but since we were the only people out there (literally didn't see one other golfer that morning and it was awesome, got a full 18 in 2.5 hours) they just let us go ahead and finish the back 9.
Outside of his incredible putting if Spieth doesn't have his timing right he's not that good. He's gonna need to make some changes to be more consistent
Spieth is clearly still mind fucked. His game is just too disjointed. When it all comes together he's an assassin bc of his short game but he's basically a top 15 guy right now. I think there's a mental block somewhere that didn't even come from the masters. He had the same deal that whole week and was just grinding it out with his short game which he is able to do at Augusta. I think the melt down made it worse but the cause had been there for a while. I've heard other players try to explain it to the media, it's like a a tiny tumor on the brain that shows up and then for some it just disappears. For others, it just solidifies them as a good but not great player that wins every so often. I've always thought Kuchar is that guy.
Sure he is a mediocre ball striker but when you can putt like that it goes a long way. There are elite ball strikers that don't win shit because of putting. Ex. Sergio, Adam Scott early in his career.
I agree. I also am of the belief that he would eventually stop making everything he stands over in the 15-30 foot range. It's impossible to sustain his percentage
I've taken lessons over the past couple years from Tom Kite's son, he's a teaching pro here in Charleston. He's been adamant since I've known him that Spieth needs to make major swing changes to sustain success. Serious chicken wing going on. He was saying this when Spieth was on top of the world, and he's right. I also think he's underrated when it comes to being a douchebag on the course. Seems like a good kid off of it, but as somebody who caddied for a while I hate the way he blames everything but himself (club selection, sudden gust of wind). I'm sure it's just immaturity because he doesn't seem like a bad dude. But he and Thomas could learn a lot from Fowler when it comes to handling yourself on the course.
David seems like a pretty good guy. The only thing worth listening to on bobby hartin's show. You out at stono?
He's a great guy. As grounded as you could possibly be. I'm out at Stono a lot, I live right around the corner in Carolina Bay. You play there much?
Jealous. I played there a decent amount while I was in school but I'm in summerville now so I haven't played there in probably a year. Probably my favorite course in charleston. Wish I had something decent near me. Play at pine forest now but it's living on a past reputation.
Heading up to Charleston in a few weeks for a wedding. We want to play a round Friday afternoon, what are some good tracks to look into?
This goes without saying. My favorite course ever, ahead of Tobacco Road, The River Course, and The Ocean Course.
