Think he had given up/lost faith as of time of reflection on deck of boat. No justice = no god = no purpose

But lion eating false god re-galvanized him

I'm so fucking lost at this point but I'm along for the ride.

Kind of want all the afterlife/miracle stuff to be true. But at this point, I think the show is trying pretty hard to show us it's not. Central message has been that people ascribe their own meaning to things rather than things intrinsically having a meaning.

The whole David Burton thing was confusing but there's definitely something mystical to David Camp's character. He was the man on the bridge and the guy who made Kevin sing to get back to Earth.

Or maybe he's another iteration of whatever is up with Kevin. False prophet maybe

Lots of references to people being dogs...

The guy on the submarine appeared to be doglike and all of the orgy participants did it doggie style.

I thought tonight was brutal in terms of ending Laurie's story but it was perfectly executed. The opening scene was a nice way to bookend everything. Her story real has so many dimensions in terms of her inability to cope despite being so headstrong. Nice work with the allegory too.

Despite that wonderful close to Amy Brenneman's character, I think Carrie Coon locked up an Emmy tonight with that beach ball story.

I love this show but I can't help but feel like I'm missing at least 25% of the references and that's probably being generous

Sepinwall puts forth in his review a few times, the question of, when did Laurie decide to kill herself, if she even did? He mentions how her demeanor shifted so drastically from last weeks episode and he ultimately says the answer doesn't matter. I disagree because to his point, it just comes out of nowhere and while they tied it together nicely within this episode, I just have a hard time, I guess the word is "buying it", when you look at who she has been in the previous episodes this season. Now, I know it's a shortened season and that might play into it but I personally would have liked more development of her mindset.

I don't see any inconsistency with her suicide and how she has been throughout the entire series. Honestly, I thought it was powerful, well done, and advanced the plot perfectly. It wasn't just her. It was Nora also. I feel like I know how this all ends and it is not how the season has let us think it ends. I have not been as into this season as I was last season, but this was the first episode that brought it all together and made it feel as good as I felt about last season. I really enjoyed it.

I think they set the entire season to look like a religious outcome after clearly telling us in season one that the show is not about how it happened but what happens to people as a result of this mysterious departure.

I think we get an ambiguous answer about what happens where we are left to decide or best case one that shows us that this is another false storm outcome like we saw in the beginning of the season. I think the characters either kill themselves off or are left to ponder why they never got an answer.

most shows I feel like I have an idea where it's going and think about it, one of the reasons I enjoy this show so much is that I don't have a clue nor do I find myself caring, I just enjoy watching it unfold

I'm 98% sure the characters (and we) never get an answer. The showrunners said in season one that we'll never find out where they went or what caused the departure.

same. But it kind of makes sense with the essence of the show, it's about how each character has struggled to handle the absence of an explanation and finality... would make sense that the shows ends leaving the viewers in the same position.

They said it from day one. The thing is this year they made it so religious that I think many people forgot that they said the show is about how people react to the departure and not what the actual cause was. Last year they set the show up by showing us the cave woman and later you understand why they showed her. This year feels the same. We see the devout woman always thinking the great floos is coming but it never comes and it destroys her family. We are watching history repeat itself in modern times.

I think this season has been incredible

A lot of the ambiguity that lindelof is known for has taken a backseat to clearer characterization. That nora kevin scene in the hotel might be the best thing the leftovers has ever done.

If there's one aspect of life I don't get nostalgic for it's TV shows. This is incredible stuff and there's like 10 shows that are airing currently that are great. Growing up in the 80s you got a couple good sitcoms and liked it.

This show in season 2 and 3 is amazing. Amazing.

I've spent two hours this morning watching last weeks episode and last nights episode. I'm an emotional wreck at the moment.

The beach ball scene with Nora, Jills final phone call, the reading of the last page of the book and shaved Kevin's "we fucked up with Nora" hit hard.

This show is brilliant. Tempted to rewatch season two and all of three before the finally.

It's funny how the first season followed the book and the reaction was pretty universally: "eh."

Then the next two seasons the TV writers took the show off the rails and it's acclaimed as shit.
