This franchise is a dumpster fire Cole isn't an ace Glassnow can't throw a strike Taillon is our only hope Cutch sucks Kang is an alcoholic #Pittsburgh Pirates
His value was never lower during this past offseason though. The Pirates need to pray he has a rebound year this year so they can move him in the offseason for some value. They'll then find some grocery-bagger in the offseason to man RF until mid-to-late June 2018 and then they'll call up Meadows for good.
Really enjoyed the buffoonery last night. Nothing like bunting with your best hitter late in a tie game. 12 innings, 5 hits, 0 batters reach 2B. Vintage Bucs.
In 1985, First Baseman Jason Thompson led the Pittsburgh Pirates on the season in home runs. He hit 12.
Everybody on the Pirates was so busy ramming coke up their noses - no time to hit homers. He looks like the only guy who stayed away from the candy.
Hell no. I literally remember as a kid my mom walking into the living room where my brother and I were watching a game and going "why are his eyes always so glassy?" Literally have that memory.
Moar like FreePass-now. Growing pains. Kid is legit, its just going to take some time. I'd rather watch him than see Drew Hutchinson or Steven Brault gay all over themselves.
Why the hell wouldn't you pinch hit there Bases loaded with 0 outs back to back innings and we get 1 run. Sweet
The Pirates have stranded eight runners on base in three innings, going 0 for 9 with RISP. That is hard to do.
Frazier needs to be starting for Harrison at 2B. I'm willing to deal with his shit defense if he can get on base consistently - something Harrison does not do.
Lots to build on from this series win against the Yankees. Really lucky to get away with a W today after leaving the bases loaded twice and rolling into like four double plays. This rotation may be enough to keep us in this thing. If Marte comes back and produces and we get a some production from some prospects later in the year we might just have a chance to play in October. Definitely not a great team at this moment but I'm hopeful that this season isn't a complete wash
From Joe Block on twitter, just a silly stat: In his 16 starts with the #Pirates, Ivan Nova has more complete games (5) than walks (4) and a 2.50 ERA
On May 25, 1983, Pirates pitchers Jim Bibby and Jim Winn combined to tie a major league record by walking 7 batters in a row in a loss to the Braves. Bibby walked four in a row and was relieved by Winn, who then walked the next three. Unofficially, Jim Bibby also sweat more than any pitcher in major league history and had hands so large that he could hold 8 baseballs at once.
Not trading cutch when he had a little bit of value in the offseason is an embarrassment. But he sells jerseys!
On June 8, 1989, the Pirates scored 10 runs in the top of the first at Philadelphia. Pirates broadcaster Jim Rooker announced on air that he would walk back to Pittsburgh if they lost. After the 10-11 loss, Rooker made good on his promise, but waited until after the season to walk from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh.
Wake me up when we're good again All these young guys are gonna be busts aren't they Polanco, cole, bell, glassnow
Certainly could make the argument if your projection for him is/was ace, which it is for a lot of people (most). He'd make a pretty good 2-3 for a lot of teams. He's just not an ace. That's been proven over and over.
Best bet is to move Cole and the sooner the better. Time to move on and start over to let the young guys pitch and get some burn. Hopefully Taillon makes a full rebound from his cancer treatment. And it pains me to say this because I love the guy, but Cutch needs to be moved as well. I was hoping he'd bounce back this year, but he's so inconsistent now. He's 30 years old so you're probably better off letting him be someone else's rebuild project.
Cutch's drop off is unlike anything I can remember in MLB. It seems like one fall he's an MVP candidate and the next spring he's dogshit.
