One of my favorite games on the original Sega was "Pirates!". I actually bought it for my iPad and still play it on long trips when bored. Great game. That's why the news of this game coming out made me really really excited. It's even been said it could be Rare's greatest game ever. http://www.gamespot.com/articles/rares-xbox-one-pirate-game-sea-of-thieves-gets-new/1100-6434271/ This guy explaining playing with his friends.... I hope they pull it off, it has big potential for me.
Article by one of the guys in the above video.... (I think) http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/06/14/e3-2016-sea-of-thieves-hands-on-setting-sail-with-a-smile
I'm ok with Early 2017 providing it doesn't hit Q2... WISH it'd be out before xmas, but whatever, I was worried it'd be Q4 2017.
Article with a little more info.... http://www.windowscentral.com/sailing-high-seas-sea-thieves "The demo build Rare had available for Sea of Thieves was very stripped down; there was no melee combat or shooting. It was designed solely to give players an idea of how the game's co-operative naval combat and social features would work in quick, E3-style 15-minute bursts. And it was total, unmitigated awesomeness." Literally everything I've read from people who have played the game says the same thing about the gameplay. Edi:Spoiler has beginning of article only. It wouldn't paste and post for some reason. Spoiler At E3, we were lucky enough to go hands-on with Rare's upcoming connected pirate game – Sea of Thieves. Up until now, Sea of Thieves has been shrouded in a mist of intrigue, with only scant details to accompany its slick, but uninformative debut trailer. At E3 2016 I was lucky enough to not only play the game but spend a significant amount of time discussing it with Rare's Joe Neate and Gregg Mayles, along with studio lead, Craig Duncan. Sea of Thieves has the potential to be a very big deal. Here's what I learned. Sea of Thieves is an always-online open world, where groups of up to four players will be able to band together to explore, plunder loot and progress a misfit pirate crew. Neate said that everything you'd expect from a connected RPG would be available in Sea of Thieves — from character progression, upgrades, quests, and more difficult group objectives. Neate said that the trailer the studio showed at E3 (embedded above) provides hints at different activities you'll be able to take part in for Sea of Thieves. From my time with the demo, the potential this game has to be a huge hit is crystal clear.
Pirates for Sega is one of the greatest games ever. There was an Xbox version that I still play from time to time.
Got invited to a 3 hour technical alpha session on Saturday... Wooooooo. 2-5PM, and I'll be attending.
The Alpha test? Not unless something changed since I got the email 2 hours ago. The game is going strong, and has been doing loads of technical alphas.
no, not the alpha. the game itself. i hadn't heard anything about this game in a while, i had forgotten about it.
It's definitely not cancelled. The fanfare behind this game seems pretty huge. Folks are real excited about it judging by the popularity of its forums.
Fun as always. Not quite the dominating performance of the first play around, as we got sank by an enemy ship while holding a legendary treasure. Then, after turning in treasure we'd all get drunk at the tavern and start puking on each other. Oh, there are also sharks now, and they're slightly terrifying when you're not expecting them to swim up on you. Lost a couple shipmates to shark attacks. RIP Also, communication in this game is as important as any game I've played, so have a mic ready to rock.
Pirates! was a good game i also played an MMO for a bit called "Pirates of the Burning Sea", which was fun, but an overly-ambitious undertaking by the developer. if this 'sea of thieves' game develops into something polished and finished i might give it a look, but i normally give these types of games a 'pass.' There's so much that goes into a successful game, I just don't have much faith in small developers anymore.
yeah. they have 1 PC game under their belt and i've never heard of it. ~200 employees or so, about the size of Paradox interactive. GTA5, Asssassins Creed, etc., have that many developers alone, not counting all the different managers, artists, voice actors, etc etc, the number of contributors is over 1000. maybe instead of calling them a "Small Developer" i should have simply said they are "not a big developer." because that's really the issue. These graphically-intensive 3d open world sandbox style games require insane amounts of content to feel "full"
They are a console company for sure... Banjo Kazooie, Shadow Dark, etc being amongst their biggest. I think this is their push back into the gaming world.
If I could push a button and someone somewhere in the world would die but they'd remake Pirates! I'd do it
i remember Pirates! being very good but kinda lacking something in terms of depth. but my taste in games is very weird and particular. im watching the gameplay video of this new one, it definitely looks original
2 technical alpha tests today. Phenomenal as always. I really hope this game turns into a legit franchise.
Nothing crazy.... Random treasure chests on the islands mostly. Ammo limits for the pistol. Less sharks maybe?
Yeah I won't be able to play tonight but I did get about 2 hours in from 1-3pm today. It's a fucking blast. Only issue with it is that I don't know what to do with the money I am accruing.....
Lots of new updates including things to buy with your coin. 1 player and 2 player boats added as well. Trying out now.
Yeah, and tried it solo. I got frustrated with a treasure riddle that I’m pretty sure glitched on me. Fun game, but better with friends imo.
Looks like I’m getting into the next alpha test this weekend. I’ve been an insider for a while and I never got any emails about this, just one about the closed beta next year. Saw some random SoT group posts popping up on my feed and got curious. If anyone else signed up to be a SoT insider I would download the Xbox insider app. That’s where the alpha download is.
It's fun man, but wayyy better if you're with a crew. I tried doing the solo thing and kind of hated it.
