Tom, why'd you put in a CB for Fields to FSU? Something you wanna tell us, or is it just a guess

I just believe things shake out that way. I'm torn between FSU and UF, but spoke to a source this morning that believed it would be FSU . He is pretty connected here. I'm riding with that for now. Depth chart sets up so well at UF though. Hard to pass on that.

Five-star QB Justin Fields says he plans to visit Florida in the next week.

Still considering Penn State, Florida, FSU, Auburn and Georgia.

Enjoyed working with Jimbo Fisher and company this week.

Thinks McElwain and Nussmeier can develop him. Means a lot to him he's their only target.

    No timetable to decide.

Cam Newton cut the media session with Fields short.

Fields isn't going to UGA...never really considered them too much per my buddy that does work on his 7v7 team. Secret visits are a cute little falsehood though.

FSU most likely with Auburn being the dark horse.

FTR - FSU, UF and Auburn are definitely the final 3...and UF isn't completely out. But based on what he said, it really feels like FSU, Auburn with UF bringing up the rear. However, it's recruiting, it's fluid, and they are impressionable kids. Either way, no doubt this kid is the 2nd best QB in the country...and as a Clemson fan, I would rather him end up at UF or Auburn than FSU. But it's certainly trending FSU's way as of now.

Five-star quarterback Justin Fields has had a busy month of June. He started it off with a decommitment from Penn State, he then hit the road for visits to Georgia, Auburn and Florida State. After those visits were complete he rejoined his Cam Newton All-Star 7on7 team for the IMG National Championship, held this weekend in Bradenton Fla.

“(Being coached by Cam Newton) It’s definitely great. Growing up he was someone I modeled my game after, so it’s great learning from him,” Fields said.

When it comes to recruiting Fields says he does not have a leader, but there are a handful of teams that standout.

“I’m not talking to every school that’s offered me but I am talking to a certain amount of schools. I’m open to others but just not talking to them right now.”

Who are the teams in that top group?

“Georgia, Florida State, Florida, Auburn, North Carolina, Ole Miss and Alabama a little bit. I just don’t talk to the (Alabama) coaches as much as the others.”

Fields says he has three teams recruiting him the hardest right now.

“Georgia, Florida and Florida State,” he said.

Some have speculated that Fields sisters commitment to UGA to play softball could give the Dawgs the edge.

“I’m real close to my sister and everything, we’re great friends, but that’s not going to determine where I go. She just wants the best decision for me.”

Fields says he plans to take a trip to the University of Florida. He was not specific as to when it will occur, but he does know he’ll make it to Gainesville this summer.

“I want to be with the coaches, I just want to hangout there and just see what they are, relax back and not have it be all about football,” Fields said.

As for a final decision timeline, Fields did not know when that will be.

“I’m not sure when yet, I have no idea. I honestly do not know where I’ll go,” he added. “It’s going to come down to academics, player development, just knowing the coaches can make me into a better quarterback and I guess the relationships I have with the coaches and the relationships my parents have with those coaches.”

^ that was Newberg, this is Wiltfong:

BRADENTON, Fla. - Five-star quarterback Justin Fields says five teams still have his attention.

“Penn State, Georgia, Florida, FSU and Auburn,” he told 247Sports during the NFA 7-on-7 National Championships this weekend.

    Two more have his eye.

    “North Carolina and Ole Miss.”

He has an idea of when he’d like to have a final decision.

“Hopefully I can get it done before the season but I’m not rushing anything because I want to make sure I’m 100 percent.”

The 6-foot-3, 221-pound Fields again looked the part over the weekend, spinning tight spirals in being very accurate with the football. The Kennesaw (Ga.) Harrison talent saw the field well, was hitting receivers in stride, fitting the ball in tight windows, dropping it in the bucket over defenders and spreading it around. And this performance is coming off throwing at FSU ’s camp earlier in the week, and throwing at Elite 11 earlier in the month with plenty of fine-tuning in between. I’d venture to say no quarterback has thrown more this summer in a competitive environment than Fields who has shined at several 7-on-7 tournaments before this one.

Lack of playmakers around the strong-armed Fields prevented his Cam Newton All-Star team from making a deep run in the tournament but the blue-chip recruit stayed poised throughout.

Now Fields heads back home to try and figure out where he’ll play on the next level.

“I kind of wish I knew where I was going but I really don’t,” he said.

Obviously there was a time where he thought he did.

Fields decommitted from Penn State on June 6 after having been a Nittany Lions verbal dating back to December. He says he still talks to the PSU staff every day. With that being said, it would be a surprise to see him find his way back to Happy Valley.

“Decommitting was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do,” Fields said, adding he loves what offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead is doing in State College. “I just wanted to make sure they were the best fit.”

Georgia got a couple quick visits over the last couple weeks from Fields who’s sister will play softball for the Bulldogs.

“They just showed me they’re trying to change the offense up, they just don’t have the guy to do it,” Fields said. UGA has recruited two touted passers in the last two classes in Jacob Eason and Jake Fromm. “That’s definitely intriguing. I feel like I bring something different to the table there.”

Fields is one of the fastest quarterbacks in the country and the Georgia staff wants to use those wheels as a weapon.

“They have guys there that can throw but they don’t have guys there that can use their legs like I can,” he said of what he was told.

The Seminoles got the most recent visit from Fields. The offer from Jimbo Fisher and company came back in April and it was an opportunity Fields was very excited about.

“Just Coach Jimbo coaching me up at the camp and just how well the coaches gelled together and how much of a family they were,” he said of the highlights.

With a ball in the air and Fisher coaching, Fields wasn’t going to stand on the sideline in Tallahassee.

“I threw not only because I wanted to compete but also I wanted to learn from him,” Fields said. He also visited in the spring. “That was my main goal to learn from one of the best quarterback coaches in the country.”

Fields also returned to Auburn recently for a quick visit. He spent most of his time with Gus Malzahn.

“They showed me a slideshow thing about their recent quaterback history and what they’ve done with quarterbacks — so there was some stuff I didn’t know about that that definitely I guess made their case better,” Fields said. “Just showing me what they’ve done with quarterbacks and what Coach Malzahn has done with quarterbacks.”

While at Auburn, Fields met not only with Malzahn, but offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey and Tigers quarterback Jarrett Stidham, who will battle with returning starter Sean White in August for the starting job.

    What stands out with Auburn?

“Coach Lindsey and how he’s going to try to incorporate more passing into their game and just the quarterback history of Coach Malzahn,” Fields said. “Knowing that they’ll have a guy like me to win games.”

Also appealing: The chance to compete for a starting job early in his careeer.

“Jarrett Stidham is there now,” Fields said. “Max, I think he’s going to stay two years so I’ll probably have an early chance to play there. It’s definitely intriguing seeing that quarterback room there.”

Florida is the 247Sports Crystal Ball favorite and Fields mentioned possibly visiting in the next week. In my opinion the Gators could have landed three different four-star quarterbacks this cycle but Jim McElwain, Doug Nussmeier and company only have their eyes on Fields right now.

“They just expressed to me that I am their main guy and that is pretty much the message to me,” Fields said. “That is definitely humbling knowing I am their number one guy and the one they want. I definitely like they are telling me that.”

The Gators have been looking for a difference maker at the quarterback position for the last several years now. The staff is pitching Fields the chance to see the field early, and have been telling him that he is their final missing piece.

“They just have the opportunity to play early and the chance to have an effect with the Gators there. Coach Doug Nussmeier and Coach Mac have had recent success with winning games and making it to the SEC Championship. So I am interested in seeing what they can do with me.”

Fields told 247Sports on Sunday that Florida, FSU and Georgia were recruiting him the hardest.
