I'll defend that movie No, it wasn't great but it was definitely better than a lot of the shit pushed out by big studios.
They certainly don't bat 1000, but they hit like 800 and that's pretty impressive considering their size and how much they push out.
Finally saw The Jungle Book last night. Was really good and I'm completely down with them doing this for the Lion King.
Will watch Jungle Book now that so many people have said they liked it and will form a better opinion on how I feel about Lion King being remade. Lion King is the best cartoon movie ever, there is no denying that.
I think I dig Robin Williams's hidden adult humor sprinkled throughout Aladdin too much to put anything about it, but they're like 1a and 1b for me. I sang every song for Lion King when it came out in 3d in theaters a few years ago. I'll take the songs of the two of them against any Disney classic ever.
I think what happened with John Carter was that a. It was a very obscure older IP b. It assumed an unreasonable level of casual familiarity with said IP for a modern audience. So the first batch of people watch it, have no fucking idea what's going on because they're bombarded with all the tribes/factions on Mars/Carter's abilities/etc. with little explanation, and it doesn't get the positive word-of-mouth to keep enough butts coming into the seats to make up for the insane budget it had.
Once Rogue One is out, Disney will have the 5 highest grossing movies of 2016. And, Dr. Strange has a chance to finish top 10.
Love both of those guys and I feel like that would work really well. Not confident in the overall movie but that part seems cool
Yeah it sucks bc nostalgia ruined Hollywood. Although TV is at its best, and maybe that's the natural progression of things as attention spans have declined
My 2 year old is obsessed with Lion King. It plays in our car every day. I've probably listened to it one hundred times since the New Year. Listening to it helped me appreciate the score. That movie had a beautiful and epic score (Hans Zimmer). Once you realize Jim Cummings takes over the singing of Be Prepared, right after Scar says "You won't get a sniff without me!" it becomes impossible not to hear it.
I absolutely hate myself for this but I never knew who Jim Cummings was until I saw this clip on FB. After that I went down the rabbit hole and my mind was blown.
Hugh Jackman is Scar They showed footage from opening "circle of life" with cub simba and evidently looked incredible
