I just blew through The Well of Ascension. Fucking incredible book. I thought the Red Rising trilogy was the best I've read in a long time...maybe ever. I may have to rethink that as I read the next installment.

Currently on part 2 of Well of Ascension. In love with this world. Red Rising is still >> for me, but Sanderson's style is much more descriptive. Brown kills action scenes and suspense.

Also, I must have mentally checked out during the first book, but book 2 describes some characters' clothing as somewhat "urban" e.g. suits. Was not how I pictured the characters in my mind, but makes it cooler imo.

I enjoyed Red Rising but Mistborn shits on it, as Sanderson does to Pierce Brown as a writer.

Not until he finishes Bands of Mourning

Blackterno start the Wax and Wayne books. Same Universe just a century or so later. Alloy of Law, Shadows of Self, Bands of Mourning

    Then read Secret History

Secret History is technically #3.5 but as The Blackfish said it should not be read as such. It contains spoilers to Bands of Mourning.

Here is something that came to me that I don't think was answered or I missed. When Kelsier went to the Pits at Hathsin to destroy the atium caches there was a guy who actually escaped the pits like he did a few years earlier. They talked briefly and when the guy asked Kelsier who he was he replied with something like "I am who you will someday be". Did anything ever come from that guy? Did he ever appear again?

Start with Mistborn series (the main trilogy is finished and the Wax and Wayne books that are set in the same world are almost finished)
    The Final Empire
    The Well of Ascension
    The Hero of Ages
    The Alloy of Law
    Shadows of Self
    Bands of Mourning
    Mistborn: A Secret History

Then go to Stormlight Archive. It's Sanderson's magnum opus. Only 2 of 10 books are finished but the 3rd comes out on 11/14 and Sanderson is a machine when it comes to publishing novels.

I would read the standalone novel Warbreaker in between the first two Stormlight books though.

All of Sanderson's fantasy novels (not including his YA stuff) are set in the same universe and may crossover in some subtle and not so subtle ways.

Then whenever you feel like it read Elantris, it's his first novel and relevant to his Cosmere but imo not quite as good as the rest (but still p good). The novella set on the same world is called The Emperor's Soul and it is utterly fantastic.

I finished The Alloy of Law and Shadows of Self.
I liked the first one and found it enjoyable but it wasn't anything like the original trilogy in terms of the inability to put it down. It took me until about 40% through shadows of self to really get into it. Once it started really incorporating a lot of people and things from the original trilogy it picked up for me. The fact that Lessie was a plant all along was crazy. Now I look forward to finding out what this new God is. And what it is about. Wayne's character really picked up in Shadows of Self.

    Now onto Bands of Mourning.

Loved Bands of Mourning. When will the next (last?) book of the series be out?

A Secret History is phenomenal already and I am only through 2 chapters.

Not sure, Brandon puts out an annual article (State of Sanderson maybe?) where he gives a tentative timeline of when to expect all of his projects. I can't remember when to expect the last book, I'll see if I can find it

I don't even know how to respond to this.

    Sure?

Scope of the series are completely different. Mistborn is a fantasy series, Stormlight is an epic fantasy and Brandon's magnum opus

Oh it probly isn't a fair comparison to make. I just saw this thread near the top and thought about how the characters and magic system(s) are just so much more interesting in Stormlight.

Secret History was incredible. I loved it. It wasn't exactly what I was expecting but definitely filled in some gaps. I look forward to the Lost Alloy.

I'll start Stomlight soon but I want to wait until Oathbringer comes out so I can read the first three all in a row.

Do not click if you haven't read the Oathbringer prologue...
Gavilar's answer to the Alethi in-fighting and the lack of change in the world is to bring back the desolations? Surely there must be more to it than that.

I'm curious to find out who the other five people in the room with him were when Eshonai peaked in. Amaram is the one made clear in the prologue.

I also found it interesting that the Parshendi forsook Odium and were willing to risk war with the Alethi (by killing Gavilar) to prevent him from bringing back the desolations.

My current expected writing schedule involves taking a year and a half to do other projects, then diving back into Stormlight.

    2017
June–August: Apocalypse Guard One (Fall 2018 Release)
Early September: Legion 3 (Sometime 2018 Release)
Late September–December: Apocalypse Guard Two (Mid 2019 Release)
    Late December: Random Novella
    2018
January–March: Apocalypse Guard Three (Mid 2020 Release)
April–July: Wax and Wayne Four (Series finale, Fall 2019 Release)
    August–December: Undecided (Rithmatist 2, maybe?)
    2019
All months: Stormlight Four (Fall 2020 Release)

Posted this in the 2017 books you've read thread..

    Been rereading all of Sanderson.

The Way of Kings - fucking awesome reread. Enjoyed it so much more the 2nd time which is saying something because I gave it a 5 star rating the first go around. Now being familiar with the characters and plot I was able to listen more deeply and pick up on lots of stuff I missed the first time around. Not to mention my knowledge of the cosmere and what is going on (shards, worldhoppers etc...) made it much more enjoyable.

Elantris - Also enjoyed it much more the 2nd time. Still not his best, but better than the majority of the stuff out there

The Emperor's Soul - Probably my favorite novella / short story of all time.

Up next is Warbreaker reread, then Words of Radiance which I should finish right around the time Oathbringer is coming out.

Through the first few chapters of Warbreaker and realized Tor has Warbreaker Reread that has been completed

    :blessed:

Finished my Warbreaker reread. I almost changed my rating from 4 to 5 stars based on how good the ending is, however the drag in the beginning just doesn't quite justify it. I'm probably wrong though.

Really glad I reread it before rereading Words of Radiance due to the two carryover characters :warn:
