You boys are fucking crazy if you think Parks is The Office with different cast/different setting. It might have started that way but it grew into an entirely different beast. Leslie stopped becoming the object of derision and they ran off the knock-off Jim pretty quickly.
Office is top heavy with Michael and Dwight but lacks depth. It's like having Stafford, Green, and Moreno but the rest of your team is dogshit
Creed? Meredith? Kelly? Stanley? Kevin? etc... Sure they all didnt have rich story lines outside of the office building but still great characters.
The worldbuilding of Pawnee is unmatched. Pawnee became a Springfield-esque place whereas The Office was always more contained to the office park.
If u are looking to a derivative workplace comedy for world building then you are doing TV wrong. It's like saying I loved westworld for the futuristic 3D printing
The Office does not own a patent on the mockumentary and Parks is derivative in form only. Calling Parks a workplace comedy is intellectually dishonest, imo.
Potential imo. Murray was a much better college qb, but let's not make this thread about that. Let's focus on Clown Baby's poor opinions.
Listen dude, I love The Office. But it's depth of characters, storylines, and worldbuilding are always going to be second to Parks (if we're looking at shows in mockumentary form).
I've already reported you to the Deptartment of Child Services for being a second rate thread starter
If I'm being completely honest, nothing will ever top The Office for me solely because of Michael Scott. GOAT television character imo.
Never really watched Parks and Rec that much Need to change that. Thanks to Amazon and Netflix I can change that
yeah season 1 is pretty rough but necessary mainly just because of Andy But power through and know that season 2 on is awesome
Season 1 is really tough on the first watch. I gave up on the show 2x during season one. Then it finds its stride and becomes amazing.
Mike Schur said the real breakthrough came when people stopped deriding Leslie and started to admire her for her doggedness. I think that's when Parks spun off into an entirely separate entity from The Office. They also made Ron awesome and increased the dose of Andy (and ditched Brandanoquitz). And they built Pawnee into a wonderful hellscape of political satire.
To clarify my earlier points, Parks and The Office became entirely different shows and that's why I love them both. But calling Parks purely derivative got my goat.
I need to pick back up Parks & Rec. I watched the first 2-3 seasons on Netflix and then it kind of got lost in the shuffle. Based just on those few seasons, it definitely had more character depth than The Office. But Michael Scott is still the greatest of the 2 shows.
That was how it went for me as well. Since then, I generally give a show until season 2 if I thought the first season showed potential but wasn't anything more than so-so. And this is probably why I need to pick back up on 30 Rock. I haven't been able to get past the first season yet.
I'm not sure if a Office reboot would work. They need a different business than paper. Maybe a deal where they are working with Creed making fake ID's. ...
Haven't been able to get past the first season? The show gets hysterical like 2 minutes into the very first episode.
