He definitely does. His footwork has been good, needs to get more experience so it slows down for him.
i'm torn between wanting to sit kizer so he isn't thrown into the fire before he's ready, and wanting to play him week 1 because sitting through 10 weeks of brock osweiler is going to make me want to stab myself in the eyes with a rusty fork
there are like six gorgeous throws in here. and really only one poor throw. third or fourth throw was a beautiful back shoulder toss to boyce that was dropped
Brock and Kessler are who we thought they were...mediocre and bad. I'll give Brock more of a pass since he only worked with the 1's for 3 days; but Kessler is still doing the same things he did last year - holding onto the ball too long and checking down every chance he gets. Kizer (while keeping it in perspective) looked like the best of the 3. Boy did he handle pressure well and looked like a veteran navigating the pocket. He consistently kept his eyes downfield and stepped up into the pocket instead of bailing at the first sign of pressure. He showed he can make throws at every level of the field...and that deep ball... I'm OK with Hue wanting to keep Brock at #1 this week...but Kessler and Kizer have to be flip-flopped. We need to get Kizer more reps and continue to get him ready IMO.
QB DeShone Kizer, 83.2 overall grade Kizer looked sharp in his preseason debut, showing veteran-like movement in the pocket and displaying his arm strength on his way to an 83.2 overall grade. He completed 5-of-10 passes under pressure for 126 yards and a 129.2 passer rating. He was also an impressive 2-of-2 on deep passes for 97 yards.
I'm not going to anoint Kizer for playing decent against backups. I was encouraged by what I saw, but I don't want him playing until at least after the Bye.
Meh...nothing will teach him faster than being on the field. If he continues to show improvement throughout the rest of the preseason, then there's no reason to leave him on the sideline until the bye for Brock. Big Ben, Flacco, Luck, Cam, etc... all started snap 1 of game 1.
I could also list a ton of QBs that started game 1 and flopped. If Kizer has something, I don't want to rush it and ruin him. This team isn't built to win more than 5 games this year anyway.
Getting drafted by the Browns is what has put him in that position... well that and him being a below average QB.
Just as I can show many more exampled of QB's who played immediately and flourished. Hell, Mariota, Winston and Carr are all turning out just fine after starting from game 1. There is no such thing as "rushing and ruining him". That's a myth. If he is ready to play (knows the playbook, decent knowledge of coverages, reads, etc...), then there is no substitute for in-game seasoning. If he is going to be ruined, then it won't matter if he goes in game 1 or game 10...he will be ruined either way. But as I said originally, I want to see continued improvement before I say to throw him in vs Pitt.
I think Kizer showed enough to earn reps with the second team next week. As far as the season goes, the schedule gets a hell of a lot easier after the bye. If he's going to start this season, I think it might be in the best interest of the team for him to do so then. It was pretty encouraging to see a QB with a deep ball.
When you watch that twitter video of all the throws- Kizer faced pressure on just about every drop back Dude made the correct read everytime but 1 play Not sure Brian Kelly taught him that
I think you are mistaken, Watson was not drafted by the browns. Or are you talking about the qb who put up 376 yards in a monsoon against your vaunted defense? To be fair Watson was great in that game too, 84 yards is nothing to sneeze at
Glad you guys found your franchise QB in Kizer. Sounds like he's on his way to being MVP after last night
Great thread title. Hopefully you guys found your QB and you have a good season including a big victory over the Jets.
Out of all the terrible 1st rounders we've had, he might be the worst. I don't even know how he started in college.
yea, I really don't get the Cam Erving thing. he was considered to be one of the 'safest' players in the draft that year, and he's been nothing short of seamy dog-shit.
Corch I would like to go on the record as apologizing for wanting Cam Erving and thinking it was a good pick when you felt strongly otherwise. That is all.
Had no idea who cam Erving was but after some research....whoever is responsible for drafting this Should work at a Walmart in ohio
Jabrill Peppers tore up practice today. I'd be surprised if he isn't our starting Strong Safety for Week 1. ( #Michigan Wolverines )
I was streaming the draft and it was about a minute behind. My tmb alerts went from zero to 35 in 30 seconds and I knew what had happened
I was getting the kids a late night dinner and was listening on the radio. I seriously almost crashed into the Taco Bell drive thru I was laughing so hard
The fact that Peppers made as many interceptions in a single Browns practice as he did in his entire college career probably isn't a good sign overall
