I was there with some family and my uncle is an Italian who moved to the states at 26. He LOVES to bike but was having double hip replacements after our vacation and couldn't do it. You could see some of him dying inside every time we passed some bikers

Like Arkadin said, Mallorca is the shit for cyclists. Chances are you'll bump into pros on the road.

Also, Basque country is some of my favorite cycling in the world. My favorite of all time though is Portugal. I could've died on the roads in rural Portugal and I would've died a happy man.

Only 2 people out of the 6 going are cycling. So although they are onboard with going to a cycling rich place like Spain, final say on where we go is going to be decided by the group. I can only hope that the majority will be convinced to go to Mallorca or Basque.

And completely agree on Portugal. It felt like I was finally home when I was there. Love that damn place.

Think I am knocking another of the bucket list next weekend and riding the Hotter Than Hell 100. Riding buddy backed out but I have finally maintained my ability to ride the distance over the hot Texas summer. Probably due to a rather mild summer that has kept me on the bike instead of retreating inside to the a.c.

Set a new max HR tonight during a quasi sprint in a group ride, 192. Not too shabby for a 41 year old.

I've decided to undertake a new project due to my overwhelming hatred for people who walk 3 abreast taking up the entire bike path.

I'm going to have a small button on my handlebars that blasts a train horn through a smallish Bluetooth speaker.

Either that or a message of "Get the fuck out of my way you stupid twats!"

Wonderfully organized ride. If you ever get a chance ride the Hotter N Hell guys.

Tried to do this ride in 1993 and in 1994.

In 1993, we did 25 miles in the first hour and then 48 miles in 2 hours. Alas, I dehydrated and got saline IV at about 60 some miles and had to be sagged in.

In 1994 the heat was 'hotter n hell' and while I did ok. I got to about 91 miles and got sagged in.

So, this ride did kick my ass and I've not been back.

However, as a.tramp has said, it is a wonderfully organized ride.

Fortunately we topped out at about 85 degrees on the ride today. I gambled on water from the 30 miles remaining point as I was in a small group of 5 that was pacing nicely and working together. It almost got me though and luckily there was a final stop with 5 remaining that I stopped at and limped on in.

Stung by a bee/wasp/hornet thing last night on my ride. I have still yet to have a flat tire but have been stung while riding so many times it is ridiculous. Sucks because I have been stung so many times now I have gone from not having any reaction at all to now having huge swelling and pain for a couple of days when it occurs. So much for keeping benadryl with me, I fear I might soon have to start carrying an EpiPen.

What do you guys keep on your bikes for flats. I have a CO2 pump, and patches? Been lucky so far but don't go too far out yet.

I seem to be the thread expert at this now. I had 2 flats in 2 rides.

I would suggest just throwing an extra tube in your bag, co2 filler, and some levers.

The first flat I didn't have anything and I had a walk home that took about an hour. The second time I had everything I needed and it took 6 minutes to change my tube and ride off.

Just mapped out my ride for Ojai, CA in October. 64 miles with 6200'+ of elevation gain. So basically, first half is all uphill, 2nd half all descending back to starting point. Once again, not super steep gradient but unrelenting climbing for 2+ hours. So geeked.

dallasdawg speak to me/us about what you are doing now. Unless I am mistaken are you not involved with sports recovery now? If not, carry on.

I lost 10lbs in water weight on my 2 rides today, 7 alone tonight. I feel as if a bus full of fat women ran me over. Could you possibly provide services for a guy like me?

Went on a great ride this past weekend. A bee got stuck in my jersey and stung me so that sucked. Took some cool pictures though. Riding to the top of Lookout Mountain in Chatanooga Saturday morning.

Post-ride determination points toward dehydration. Weird as it was not super hot yesterday but oh well. Rehydrated and doing a recovery ride this pm.

Just stopped by the bike shop in Ojai to check the fit and adjust for my ride tomorrow. Then I drove the route, so flippin' geeked.

Looking back down the highway towards Ojai from near the top of Rose Valley summit. This is 11-12 miles with 2600' of climbing. Over half of the climbing at this point.

    Resized_20171005_140431.jpg

    Resized_20171005_140913.jpg

The next 11-12 miles only gains about 1000' and is rolling terain.

Then the Pine Mountain Summit (highway summit) starts with 900' gained in 3 miles. This is looking north from the top of the pass.

    Resized_20171005_143528.jpg

From there, an option is available to take the Ridge Rd and gain another 2050' in 6.1 miles. This will depend on how I am feeling and how much time I have available.

Now to focus on a good night sleep.
