desperation. it's not always done well but they try hard. it's just supposed to be "we're so completely fucked in every possible way this is where we've ended up" and then ultimately next season will probably mostly be done as "we're fucked period. we're utterly and totally fucked" while they do some brief battles until I assume Bran does some deus ex machina shit and swings the tides. I'm guessing Golden Company does a skirmish or something until they either see the dead or the dragons and they either leave, switch sides, something. maybe Jaime pulls some kind of suicide mission where he kills Cersei so someone can step in and make the GC stop and they can all turn towards the NK.
Sorry. I'm drunk and haven't done anything in 48 hours due to this hurricane in Houston. Not trying to ruin anyone's parade. Carry on. I said what I thought.
Apparently using wolves is super, super expensive and they're trying to use their budget for other stuff. Or so my roommate told me that he read
we got casual shots of dragons just flying around yet we couldnt get shots of ghost just chilling with Bran at the heart tree
From a storytelling perspective it finally got Jaime away from Cersei. Maybe Jaime will go North and tell them what she was planning, and then lead a force back to KL, kill her, and lead her armies North to fulfill the agreement. I'm hoping for something like that at least.
I'm with you. Doesn't make much sense. I think what he told me is that they had to choose between having a shot ghost or Won Won at the battle of the bastards and they went with won won. I could be 100% wrong though. Just repeating second hand info
I still love the show but there has been some poor writing/plotting this season simply to get to certain payoffs. I can understand why people have issues with the writing.
They feel that it's too hard to make a giant wolf look real next to a person. They don't have as big as a issue with dragons because dragons aren't real.
Yeah and those cock suckers said they wanted a undead polar bear battle for years. Using CGI money on stupid shit.
Nothing is perfect and certainly this writing without a book to fall back on is not perfect. But, I really enjoy watching all these characters who have weaved in and out of each other's storylines finally all come together and have dialogue. Pod, Bron and Tyrion back was a good example of that IMO. Are there some disappointing segments and serious suspension of disbelief? Sure, but whatever, I'm gonna enjoy the hell out of it anyway.
Nice episode tonight. Glad to see Littlefinger finally get what was coming to him. The White Walkers getting the ice dragon to blow up the wall feels very deus ex machina but whatever.
anything they did was going to be deus ex machina. the wall was protected by magic, they literally needed magic to break it. a horn, a dragon, it's all the same.
Not gonna lie I'm getting some satisfaction out of all the people ITT who bitched about the Arya/Sansa storyline calling it stupid and pointless when the writers completely fooled them.
early season 9 wish I know they'll never do: Arya FM's a wight. it's going to be cool as shit to see Arya fight, though, and they've already given her the perfect weapon.
In fairness, the Aegon who was the son of Rhaegar and Elia was dead by this time. Not that Lyanna could have known that.
I guess so, but the horn would feel less that way since it was around forever and the wildlings were searching for it.
"where'd the NK find this random horn? how does he know it takes down the wall? etc". honestly, this was the most realistic way for the wall to come down, not blowing a horn and suddenly miles of wall 700ft tall and stupidly thick crumbles. the NK chipped off a piece of the end and marched through.
there's no way she knew that; Arthur and Whent didn't even know that Rhaegar was dead until Ned arrived.
The dialogue was great this ep btw "She'll definitely murder you." "Let's start with logic." "You can suck his magic cock later"
The horn would have been ridiculous for sure. The only problem with the dragon is that the white walkers are only able to pass through the wall because the Night King killed the dragon. What was their plan if he missed with the spear or Dany didn't show up?
wat? That's not what that means Deus ex machina (the god from the machine) comes from Greek stage plays when, at the point in the story when the heroes were nearly defeated, one of the gods would descend from the heavens (rafters) via a pulley system (machine) to save the day. When a villain does something bad it's, by definition, NOT deus ex machina. Besides, the Night King raising a dragon and using its fire(ice?) breath to knock down the wall is a logical 1-2-3 progression. It's not deus ex machina in any way, shape or form.
Alright we can call it devil ex machina. Im familiar with the origin of the phrase I was playing a little fast and loose with the usage.
they would committing treason to follow him wouldn't they? the way they set it up I think he returns to kill Cersei and assume command
prevailing theory right now is NK is a greenseer like Bran and knew of the dragons. the reality is this is fantasy and whatever they want to happen will and you'll forget about plot holes soon enough. for what it's worth, the NK being a greenseer makes a shitload of sense because otherwise him seeing Bran and touching Bran is even more fantasy writer bullshit. Bran, new in his powers, was able to make Hodor a thing and was able to make young Ned hear his voice so it stands to reason if he gets stronger he'd be able to perhaps physically make a difference in a vision or a warg if he so chose. if the NK is a greenseer he's been one for thousands of years and has honed the power. I think there's a pretty good chance Bran makes a big impact next season battling the NK in some way.
Seriously. Made me reconsider how ridiculous I thought the calculations on Dany and her dragons traveling at 175mph to help Jon north of the wall were. They were movin'.
I mean they need her army and they need to not be fighting 2 wars at once. I don't know how that's not leverage.
oh I agree. I think the Lannister army would rather follow him, just not sure if they would leave KL with him right now since they are in her service. He's going to come back with the dream team of Hound, Brienne, Tyrion, Bronn, and Pod and take her out.
They keep going around like "Oh no we have to talk to Cersei so she won't attack us while we're fighting the Night King." She literally has no army to attack them with.
