I think you can blame this stupid transfer market on the failure of Rex Tillerson and the administration to mediate and mend relations between Qatar and the UAE Saudi et al. Because of their stupid goddamn blockade and public tiff we get Qatar buying every fucking young player for hundreds of millions of dollars as an act of soft-power and the UAE countering in-kind.

Right. And eventually the cost-benefit analysis will change for even them. For Man City/PSG/Milan, these are initial outlays necessary to build a competitor and brand. In the future they will operate more sensibly and develop stronger youth setups, smarter buys, etc. They're in the startup phase, basically.

I think English clubs can still sell players to Spanish clubs while their window is still open.

Barkley would be pretty much the perfect midfielder if he had Kante shadowing him to win the ball back immediately to negate the 20 times per match he loses possession.
