Yes I am got pretty good tickets through West Ham. Will still be rooting for Spurs but not outwardly, not trying to catch some drunk British hands.
Ended up doing to Paris trip on Monday so only going to the one match now. Actually flying to Paris in the early morning and then taking the train back. Land at 8:40 am and take the last train of the night back at 9:15 pm so we'll get around 10 hours to see all the main spots in Paris.
Just booked a quick work trip to Buenos Aires week after next. Land early Tuesday morning, meetings Wed/Thu and then fly home Thursday night. Any recommendations for making the most of my free day on Tuesday? Would like to do a bit of walking around the city and experience as much local color as possible without doing anything overly kitschy-touristy Room 15 PJP3 BamaNug
Obviously get a huge steak. You'll hear a lot about Don Julio, but everyone I talked to says it's overrated. I had one of the best steaks of my life at La Cabrera. My first day I walked from Palermo Soho to Recoleta (above-ground cemetery), about a 2 mile walk, but you see a lot of the city. San Telmo area is really cool--if you want some amazing chorizo, go to Nuestra Parilla: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaur...la-Buenos_Aires_Capital_Federal_District.html Little open-air grill, very small place, but the guy "Freddy" is pretty famous. Here's my write-up: BamaNug Buenos Aires Spoiler Buenos Aires Catch a plane to BA that evening, get in about 7-8 PM. Stayed at Eco Pampa hostel in Palermo hostel, great hostel and great location. Palermo is the shit, just awesome bars and awesome restaurants everywhere. Buenos Aires is much more similar to big cities in Europe than South America, in my opinion. If it wasn't for the spanish you'd think you're in Europe with the architecture and modern-ness (relative to other places I've been in South America). Not a bad thing at all, but it's really, really different from Rio. Was surprised at the contrast. Was still sort of recovering from Rio, so got some dinner in Palermo, had some drinks with some people at the hostel and went to sleep a little after midnight. Actually went to the restaurant/bar 'NOLA' that was recommended by someone in this thread (can't remember who...which ones in here have been to BA before?). It's a restaurant that an expat from New Orleans opened up, and was really damn good, and surprisingly authentic. Highly, highly recommend, is a cool experience and good vibe. Really popular too, with lots of locals. Good craft beer as well. Wake up and the next day and do tourist stuff--go see the cemetery in Recoleta, which is really cool. Very similar to the above-ground cemetery in New Orleans, but this one's a lot older. Definitely recommend. Walked from there to the weird-shaped bridge (can't remember the name), and then down to San Telmo. San Telmo is a really cool area; most of BA is just a massive city like London or NY, but San Telmo was a little colonial-type village. Went to San Telmo because I wanted to go to a specific parilla I'd been reading about called Nuestra Parilla, supposed to be famous for the chorizo. It's just a little open-air grill with all sorts of meat grilling. Was awesome, had 2 sandwiches and a beer, caught an uber back to the hostel around 4-5. Be sure to check out San Telmo, and specifically Nuestra Parilla and try the chorizo. So I think I mentioned in this thread that I had a friend from high school that lives in BA now. We had been talking and planning a bunch of stuff, but unfortunately she had to go home for a family emergency. But she was able to put me in touch with her roommate, a really cool guy from Madrid that has lived in BA for 2 years. Meet up with him, we get something to eat and go out in Palermo for the night. The next 3 nights in BA were probably the 3 craziest consecutive days of my life. You don't go out in BA until like 2-3 AM, and the earliest you leave the clubs is like 6. It's retarded, everything is so late and you party all night. I got back past 6 AM on Thurs, Fri, and Saturday. I was also fortunate that July 9 is Argentina's Independence day, so Friday was a work holiday and happened to be there for a long weekend for them. First night head to Makena's, a popular club in Palermo Hollywood (I think? I know it's in Palermo). Rage all nigh to US rap music, great time. There were definitely more tourists/non-locals everywhere in BA, but there were also a ton of chicks from all over the world. Very easy to meet and had a great amount of success at all the clubs and bars. BA's partying is the best I've ever experienced, including anywhere in Europe (at least for me). Crazy fucking nightlife in this city. Next day, wake up at 1-2, get lunch with the guy from Spain that lives there, and chill at his apartment hungover and chill and get high all day, recover. The night before, we met 3 british guys who were renting some huge party airBNB in Recoleta, it was weird. It was literally like a damn mansion, and they had rented rooms. The owners of the house hired a salsa instructor, told the guys to invite as many people as they could, and had an open bar. It was really fucking cool, they were just trying to promote their airBNB as a 'party' airBNB. Stayed there until about 3, head to Liquid in Palermo, party there until about 6. Took home an American girl, things got pretty weird. Next day, sleep in late, wake up hungover again, just chill and recover all day. That night went to La Cabrera, one of the most famous steakhouses in Argentina. Got a steak the size of my head, so damn good. That, with a side and splitting a bottle of wine with someone was about $30-40, but would've cost easily over $100 in the US. So that Church Rave---this was one of the coolest things I've ever been to. One of the guys that worked at the hostel was a promoter for some underground electronica acts and just big into that whole scene, I guess. He was getting a few folks who partied at the hostel to go, and it's really underground and hard to get into, have to be on the list to definitely get in, they only let 100 or so people in (or so we were told), and it only cost $150 pesos (about $12-13 US). I know there was a ridiculous line outside and we were able to skip the line because we were on the list, and there were some people waiting when we left at 7. Apparently it goes until about 9-10, which I just don't understand. Go in and the venue is incredible. Really small church in downtown with peeling paintings on the walls, just insane. Not too packed, almost perfect amount of people. Girls everywhere, party favors everywhere, pure hedonistic debauchery. I have a shitload of go pro videos that are insane, will need to put them together and make sure all the bad stuff is off. Party there until about 7, go home and pass out, sleep until 2-3, head to airport and fly back. Eco Pampa is a really fun hostel, would recommend. I had heard about Milhouse, and it might be crazier, but Palermo is where you want to stay. Really liked Eco Pampa. Didn't get laid that last night, but at the rave was hooking up with an absolute smoke show from Ireland that was staying at the hostel. Unfortunately, she got sick and started puking when we got back to the hostel (and it was almost 8 AM), so couldn't finish things. But posting her pics because she was so fine, just turned 21. BA thoughts: -this city is insane. I probably was with more of a party crowd, but if you're looking to party your face off, this place has it. If you want, it's easy to stay out all night every night. -It's a big, big city, and like I said above, feels more like a big Paris/London than another city in South America. -Liked this food a lot better than Rio, but I think I liked Rio overall better. But both are great. I didn't think anything could ever top Northern Thailand, but Rio did. The city is incredible, and really indescribable unless you've been. Everyone should have it near the top of their list. BA is an amazing time, but the city is just out of control (again, probably more the crowd I was with). I'm glad I never went when I was in college and young and dumb(er), because I probably would have died. Thurs-Fri-Saturday is such a damn blur. Great damn time. You also seem like the type of guy that would really enjoy the Church Rave. Could rave all night and segue right into your Wednesday meeting
Ever been? Ever planning to go again? Sucks that it's a Tuesday because the San Telmo market on Sundays would be a good one-day way to get a feel for the city and culture. Grab some chorizo, grab some empanadas (my favorite place is Guimpi V in Palermo), Steak (I liked Don Julio a lot, it was expensive though). 1516 is a cool cerviceria in Palermo, think it opens at 7. Can try Argentina's attempt at craft beer, ton of young people. If you think tango would be your thing, you could see a show and/or take a lesson. There are packages that offer both. BA doesn't have a ton of things that are super touristy anyways, at least not like other big cities. That's a start...will someone be accompanying you on Tuesday?
Also, BamaNug , not sure if I told you but the 2nd time we tried to go to church rave it sucked badly. So I guess it's hit or miss.
That's disappointing. I still follow then on FB/Instagram and get all their party updates. Get flashbacks.
First time, but the meetings are about setting up an office down there so the idea is to have several more trips in the next year or so. This time I'm looking to just get a feel for the city and enjoy nice long walk outside during the day, then get a great meal or two while there. We'll be staying in Ezeiza. Yep my boss will be with me, but he's a rough and tumble tatted up English bloke who's down for pretty much anything despite his age (late 50's) and rank. By coincidence my wife's sister will be there for work at the same time and she wants to meet up for dinner on Tuesday night. Thanks
Think the other guys got you covered, but I'll second La Cabrera for a steak. Just know that steak in Argentina (at least in my experience) is more firm than a lot of what you get in the US. So don't expect a super tender cut. Wine is fantastic and cheap. Buenos Aires is less of a "do things" city and more of an experience the vibe type city. Palermo is a great area just to walk around. Lots of shops, cafes, etc.
Russian victory day commemorates winning a little known war called World War 2. Only real history buffs have heard of it.
Looking for anyone that knows Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica--specifically someone would could put me in touch with a booking company to rent a house over Xmas. The usual suspects online aren't showing much/any availability so figured I'd see if anyone had a good content in country. Short notice but figured if anyone could help.
You gave a year that they were commemorating, you remembered something. Seems like you were conflating World War 2 with a separate day commemorating the Russian Revolution of 1917. But enough about boring old history, how was the Pokemon Go scene in Russia?
Hello friend. I did Manuel Antonio this year on our l new years trip. We stayed north of there and just drove down for the day. You don't need much more than that imo.
Yeah, leaving tomorrow for Amsterdam. Oktoberfest is exactly what you expect it to be, so much goddamn beer and general drunkenness
thats fine. the fact is both of you came into a travel thread and are trying to start shit with me for the sole reason that you guys are sad people who need to fuck with others to make yourselves feel special. This wasn't a politics thread or even a thread where anything is being debated and you still couldn't help yourself. It's sad.
I'd like to apologize to the readers of this thread for politicizing it by explaining what Russia's Victory Day commemorates. Please carry on as you normally would.
Aspen/Snowmass doing $6.50 lift tickets to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Valid only 12/15. https://www.aspensnowmass.com/plan-your-stay/tickets-and-passes
Pretty unprepared, honestly. Been slammed at work so haven’t really researched any bars, restaurants, etc. I know a handful of ppl up there so going to link up with them and just go with the flow. Weather looks awesome Spoiler
Im in Frankfurt Germany currently. Been here since Wednesday. Been drunk every night and had an awesome time. Went to Wiesdaban and hung out at the Scotch and soda. Had so much fucking pork and beef, Im sure i gained 10 pounds. Thank god I had smoothies for a week before. Went to Sachsenhausen to The Anglo Irish which would give any black man "pause", it was great btw. Decided to take a spend on the Banhhofsviertel and got "beat" out of 50 euros. No regrets in the end, though. Headed to Italy tomorrow, anyone with info would be great.
The line for customs was the worst I have ever seen. Slow and long as shit. Had an "red dot" indian couple just break line for about 10 rows. Everyone got pissed as shit. Then they didn't have a rental car for me. Im heading to Italy tomorrow and going there at 1pm for a 5pm flight out, to be sure Im good.
Loving Paris so far but one question. Is it just accepted to piss anywhere in this city? The entire city smells like it and my wife and I took a walk today from the Louvre to Notre Dame and saw 8 guys pissing in public along the way. Not sure if this was just the norm or we had a unique experience.
lol. Ive heard that a bunch. We haven't seen much of that in Frankfurt. We just saw some folks enjoying Octoberfest a little too much. About 15 young guys were drinking heavy. It started with some soccer chants and yelling, then it went to a soccer match with a crushed can. Ended with a Drew Brees hype chant with 1 dude in the middle. Last thing I heard as they were being kicked out the restaurant was "SucheiBen Polizei". Saw at least 2 them about 10 minutes later in a police car.
I wanted to do that many times in London since I never had any coins and most public toilets were a few pence to use
When we would drive through Germany their rest stops are just parking spots where people get out and piss. We'd also see dudes just pull over to the side of the road and piss right there
one of my life struggles is finding coins for bathrooms in foreign countries rule #1 of travel to me is "never turn down a pee when it's convenient"
Took advantage of all the rain in Florence and just pissed myself. Just kidding. Decided to leave heavy luggage in Frankfurt at airport and backpack Italy only took 2 days(plus the ones I had on) of clothes for 5 days of travel in Italy. Got soaked in Venice and then in Florence. Just finished washing 2/3rds and now I'm covered for rest of trip. I have Airbnb'd all my stays and they have all worked out so far.
they have the same pay deal as everywhere else in europe, easy enough to find. Tube stops too. generally pubs also dont care about ppl going in for their toilets.
Yeah. I don't remember having issues when I was in Barcelona, Berlin or Paris. Had a 14hr layover in London and it was real annoying finding a place go piss. Seemed like there weren't any pubs around the main monuments. Or even coffee shops. I didntnhave any euro because it was a quick day layover and figured I didn't need any coins
Just go to one of the train stations next time. Some are free, and even if they have pay turnstiles theyre usually not working. Charing Cross, Victoria, Blackfriars etc. St James and Hyde Park have public facilities too. And all the museums, etc. Or if youre in the shopping/theatre districts, go to a Department Store, Marks & Spencer, or the like.
