And for the record, The Shield paved the way for all of the edgy cable dramas that are so prevalent today. FX took a huge risk airing a show about dirty cops right after 9/11 but it was great enough to persevere.
Yep. Sutter without a voice of reason is a menace. With that said, I'd probably watch a Mayan spin off because it'd be mindless fun. I don't think I'd allow myself to get sucked into good storytelling and watch it devolve into the Walking Dead on Wheels. With the expectation that I will have no real connection to the characters or the show, I think it'd be fine. The caveat to this is that there are no episodes over 70 minutes in length. Ever.
I am going out of town this weekend but I just may bring S1 with me. It's been a long time since I've done a re-watch and clearly it's long overdue.
I caught the final season on Nuevo TV recently and it's as amazing as ever. No spoilers but there's one particular episode that's still really powerful and sad.
I am pretty sure I know the one. Fuck that final season is about as close to perfection as you can get. The finale especially.
What happened to the spinoff about the First Nine? This idea sounds like it sucks. Imagine how great SOA could have been with Ryan holding Sutter's leash again?
Oh, it'd be awesome. Ryan made you truly care about these people doing awful things, and he was great at showing inner-conflict. It wasn't just expository dialogue or silent brooding. One thing that would not have changed however is the use of shitty child actors. Although I do give the Shield a pass because Chiklis wouldn't let his daughter actually watch the show so she probably had no context.
GOAT finale. This guy revisited it after Mad Men ended. http://grantland.com/hollywood-pros...t-the-shield-had-the-best-final-episode-ever/
I'm reading Hell's Angel, the autobiography of Sonny Barger, one of the founders of the club. Sutter obviously borrowed heavily from it (e.g. Otto and the pencil actually happened with a member in protective custody).
I've enjoyed it. It's mostly him talking about how badass he is, but it's an entertaining, quick read.
My bad. Was at the walking dead convention in Nashville and both were there. So was Ron Pearlman but he wanted $100 for pic/autograph combo. Chibs was hilarious. I had both autograph the SoA book I got for secret Santa and Chibs was all "who the fuck wrote this? Where's my 10%?" Lol
It's all good. I would have never paid $55 to go lol. But for free it was pretty cool and great people watching.
Sorry guys, unless we are FB friends the gf isn't getting posted so I had to crop the pics up lol. Ryan Hurst is a big fucking dude. They say 6'4 but I'm right at 6'1.
Oh and he's super fucking nice too. Talked to us for longer than most because we had mentioned to the people you paid that we were taking advantage of the military gets in free promotion and he overheard. Thanked me for my service and asked questions about what I did when I was in and shit. Towards the end of the day he was just standing at his booth talking to the people he worked with and I walked up to ask him about the bikes they road and he talked to me for another 5-10 minutes. Just seemed like a really down to earth guy.
It's not a spoiler since you already know about opie. It's just him, jax, and bobby like hanging out.
