if we pull this out of our asses, kluber better be delivering blow jobs with extra slobber to miller, shaw, and allen before the alcs starts.
brantley hasn't played in 2 months. the other 3 actually contributed this season. kipnis is a trash can
This team has not played this bad all year. Waited until these last three games to play their worst three games. So, so Cleveland of them.
I mean, 17 straight fastballs wasn’t doing it. Why try an 18th? I don’t know how you do it, Cleveland sports fans. I’m sorry. Every time I try to root for one of your teams they blow it. Except the Browns, they’ll always be awful. But they do blow their draft picks, if that counts.
Probably shouldn't have even made it to game 5 tbh Just fucking awful all series from our best players.
whatever. fuck baseball. appetizer for basketball and football. it can fuck off until next august when i'll go back to reading box scores for five minutes a night again.
This is my fault guys, blame me for being a fan. All of my sports i care about fucking blow it always.
can't wait to see what calamity happens next good night friends. may our violent and spiteful overlord spare you and your loved ones
Fuck, what a disappointment. I just want to see a Tribe title for my dad and everyone else getting close to 60 that haven't seen one.
So on to next year. Is the thought we lose one of Bruce or Santana and one of Shaw and Smith and replace them with a replacement player? Or are we anticipating holding on to most of the roster?
Bruce, Santana, Brantley are all likely gone. Brantley has like a $12 million team option, I doubt they pick that up. Santana might sign a team friendly deal, but more likely someone over pays him.
Let Brantley go, try to re sign Bruce and trade Kipnis for a log of chew. I like Santana but we can find a replacement easily.
Jay Bruce- Unrestricted Free Agent. Made $13M in 2017. Carlos Santana- Unrestricted Free Agent. Made $12M in 2017 Michael Brantley- Team Option ($12M) Boone Logan- Team Option ($7M) Bryan Shaw- Unrestricted Free Agent Joe Smith- Unrestricted Free Agent Josh Tomlin- Team Option ($3M) Austin Jackson- Unrestricted Free Agent I think we'll re-sign Santana for something like a 3yr/$30M deal. Pick up Tomlin's option. Let Logan walk. Probably let Shaw walk. Re-sign Smith. Try to re-sign Jackson & Bruce, though they might be hard to keep.
This team changed when Bruce was protecting Edwin. Unless you're gonna sign another hitter to protect him you've got to really try to bring him back
just cant believe how bad frankie, ramirez, and kipnis were. thought kluber was pretty good outside of pitching to didi. thought it was a terrible idea to keep attacking gardner with fastballs when he had his 100 pitch at bat. kipnis doesnt have a field position with the team next year, let him go. brantly has been too injured, let him go. try to re-sign everybody else.
So... next year: -Bruce and Jackson leave in FA -Don't pick up Brantley options -Re-sign Santana to a 4 year deal 1. OF Zimmer 2. SS Lindor 4. 2B Ramirez 4. DH Encarnacion 5. 1B Santana 6. 3B Diaz 7. OF Chisenhall 8. OF Guyer / Allen 9. C Gomes / Perez (until Mejia gets called up?) Thoughts? If the young guys step up, can be a similar offense as this year, only more long-term sustainability. Rotation still of Kluber, Carrasco, Bauer, Salazar, Clevinger and bullpen of Allen / Miller / internal fill-ins after Shaw and Smith walk. Probably still a 90 win team and favorites in central, no?
Like it for the most part Like Diaz as an everyday starter - no idea why we didn't give him a shot in ALDS after how much he played when we were actually winning Almonte needs more reps Mejia is still a long ways away (hitting wise) from being able to compete with Gomes and Perez Would love to see Merritt in the rotation Shaw drives me nuts but when he's throwing 97/98 my god he's got a lot of firepower - really unsure about the move there
I'm having a hard time letting Brantley and Kipnis go. They've been great when not injured, but they are getting old and their bodies might be starting to break down. I think you pick up Brantley's option to give him one more chance.
Any chance they can decline his option and get him at, like $5-7m instead of $12m? Will there be a market for him after his last two seasons? I don't see Bruce coming back, he's getting a fat offer from somewhere else. Santana's consistency and OBP I think you pay up for to keep in the lineup.
Plus, Santana seems like he'll give us a hometown discount. “I love it here,” said Santana, acquired by the Indians from the Dodgers on on July 26, 2008. “This is my home. I love Cleveland. They gave me the opportunity to play in the big leagues, to play every day.” He calls Progressive Field, “My house. Everybody knows me and I know everybody here.” But just how free agency unfolds for the Santana and the Indians is a mystery. “This will be tough for me after the season, but I’m going to have to make a hard decision about my career,” said Santana. “I love it here. I don’t want to go anywhere. Everybody knows. My teammates know. The front office knows. But that’s not something I can control.”
Tomlin, fighting back tears, agreed. "This could be the last game you play with a group of guys you care about, that you enjoy, that you love," Tomlin said. "That's probably the hardest part of everything. You don't want it to end."
"I don't know if I'll sleep tonight," Santana said. "I don't know. I don't know what's in my future. I'm hopeful that I can come back. This is my house. This is my family. I know everybody. Everybody knows me. So, we'll see. We'll see. Me and my family, we'll have to wait."
Jay Bruce sounds like the guy most likely to take the best offer, though he is just coming off a $51M deal and might sign for a little less to stay on a competitor like the Indians. After the loss, Bruce was not ready to think about his future. "I'm going to take some time," Bruce said. "There's not really any rush for me. Nothing really starts happening until after the World Series anyway. I've got a family that I need to be there for, internalize this and just get some rest. We'll see what happens."
i'm fine bringing everyone back except kipnis because i think he's spent. baseball playoffs are a complete crapshoot. having the best team in mlb probably matters less than any other sport. just keep rolling the dice until it goes your way.
Don’t be surprised if you see Mejia at 3B, they’ve been working with him there the last couple of months and is going to winter ball to play third, anything to get his bat in the lineup. If they take a chance on Brantley bouncing back, it’s more than likely going to be at 1B, reduce the chances of more ankle injuries. Allen goes back to AAA unless he has an everyday spot, might see a guy like Tyler Naquin get another shot. OF will probably be some mix of Zimmer, Kipnis, Chisenhall (though I could see them non-tendering him), Almonte, Guyer, Diaz Kipnis is kind of an enigma, OF is crowded if everyone is healthy, Ramirez is the future at 2B, would make sense to look into moving him while he is still under contract and has value.
The Tribe will face decisions on a handful of key performers, including pending free agents Carlos Santana, Bryan Shaw, Joe Smith, Jay Bruce and Austin Jackson. The club also holds a team option on Michael Brantley. Otherwise, the remainder of the club will be back. Here’s a look at team control (of the 40-man roster) going forward: Under club control through 2018: Cody Allen Michael Brantley (team option) Lonnie Chisenhall Boone Logan (team option) Zach McAllister Andrew Miller Josh Tomlin (team option) Under club control through 2019: Brandon Guyer Dan Otero Under club control through 2020: Abraham Almonte Trevor Bauer Carlos Carrasco Edwin Encarnacion Jason Kipnis Danny Salazar Under club control through 2021: Cody Anderson Yan Gomes Corey Kluber Francisco Lindor Under club control through 2022: Mike Clevinger Kyle Crockett Erik Gonzalez Nick Goody Tyler Naquin Roberto Perez Giovanny Urshela Under club control through 2023: Greg Allen Shawn Armstrong Dylan Baker Yandy Diaz Francisco Mejia Shawn Morimando Tyler Olson Adam Plutko Jose Ramirez Bradley Zimmer
