    Words of Radiance thoughts spoilered.

This was a stronger book than The Way of Kings. TWoK was narrowly focused to me, which wasn't a bad thing but WoR really started to expand this world. There were moments that this book lagged for me, but with a 400k word novel I would expect that to happen. The strength of this novel was probably the final 200 pages. I actually read that entire section in a single sitting--I couldn't put it down. Kaladin and Szeth's fight, the death and rebirth of Syl, Shallan discovering Urithiru...it was all handled well. Sanderson's strength, to me, is his ability to write these sequences. It's what separates him and why Mistborn grabbed me. Now, this book is not without its flaws. I hate reviving characters. I've made this clear in other series threads. What could save the Jasnah arc is the fact that this is only book 2 of 10. She could still figure to be important enough and it could pay off. It wouldn't have the same lack of payoff than what WoT had. I'm also not sure I like the building love triangle of Shallan, Adolin and Kaladin. It seems forced to me. What I do enjoy is the detail of the Radiant classes and how everything fits together. It's like we're gathering the Justice League and everyone has a special skill. I must be nerdy because that stuff excites me. All in all, really enjoyed the book and I'm looking forward to #3.

In his podcast, Dan Wells and Sanderson call this phenomenon (his writing all the endings that finish with this huge bang that ties together multiple story lines) a "Brandon Avalanche"

so I just got really excited as I'm about to read the pashendi chapters. Also pretty sure they confirmed shalan having a shard blade right? She killed her mother with it? Because her eyes were burned out and the whole 10 heart beat thing

They all but confirmed it, on a reread it is blatantly obvious in book 1 that she has a shardblade. It was her father that she killed. Her mother died when she was young and her father remarried.

Ha you tricked me, thanks for that. I had convinced myslef she killed her mom early on then decided she didn't based in this exchange. The :holyfuck: her mom wad the cunt. What a great book. I'm not thrilled about renarin becoming a radiant. Think something with happen in response to adolin killing sadeas. I actually interested in the king of Jah keved story line. It's crazy to feel like I have some closure but that there is still so much that I don't know. Also, curious to what "form" rlain is in now and how he will play an important part in stopping the voidbringers. The chapters introducing new characters are hard for me to read and I usually go back and reread them when later chapters relate back to them. Im a big fan of how each person interacts with their spren. Interesting about the kid me metabolizing food to stormlight. And was that the herald of justice chasing her right? Ready for books 3.

I've forgotten too much about WoR to respond to much of this. Looking forward to my reread immensely. Currently rereading Warbreaker now. If I think I can fit it in, I'm going to reread the Mistborn books (I drive a lot for work and listen to audiobooks) then WoR and try to finish that right as Oathbringer comes out.

Doubt I have time for Wax and Wayne but may just be able to fit the original trilogy in. IDK.

My main reason for wanting to reread Warbreaker prior to WoR was the two characters that overlap the two books.

Also you now need to read the novella Edgedancer

I think I'll do edgedancer, reading oathbreaker and then start mistborn? How is that for a plan?

Wondering if I should hammer in the mistborn trilogy before oathbringer

Depends on how fast you read. Mistborn is broken into a trilogy and then a 4 part series that takes place a few hundred years later. You may be able to knock out the original trilogy.

First 3 are the original trilogy. 4,5,6 and 8 are the Wax and Wayne series that takes place a few hundred years later. #7 is a short story / novella that tells what has been going on behind the scenes during 1-6.

:holyfuck: I don't understand how one person can do think of this. I could write a book much less create a world in which most of my books intertwine somehow. Man, the thoughts in his head must be wild. He has to be thinking 10 to 20 years ahead

He's been actively working on the universe since college. And probably thinking about it even before then. So a couple decades plus a work ethic that shames most other authors and voila, you get the Cosmere

I read through his works the first time with little to no knowledge of the Cosmere and how each novel effected it and visaversa. Now that I am more learned (not nearly as learned as some of the 17thShard folks) rereading them has been really great.

Only 10% into TWoK but I'm already glad I'm doing this reread, along with following along with the Tor Reread as well. They're alluding to events that I don't even remember happening frequently. I'd have probably been lost jumping straight back into Oathbringer.

    Scadrial (Mistborn)
    • The Final Empire - He acts as Kelsier's informant in Luthadel.[18]
    • Mistborn: Secret History - Kelsier encounters Hoid at the Well of Ascension while in the Cognitive Realm. When Kelsier asks Hoid who he is, Hoid gives several descriptions of himself including "a Drifter" which is the name Kelsier uses for him.[19] Kelsier punches Hoid, but Hoid easily overpowers him and uses the Well of Ascension to enter the Physical Realm where he takes a piece of metal[20][19] After his altercation with Hoid, Kelsier relates what happened to Leras who refers to Hoid as "Cephandrius" and calls him an "old friend."[19]
    • The Well of Ascension - He spent much of his time in the Terris Dominance, where he was wrapped up in things he didn't anticipate.[21] Elend and Spook encounter him on their way back to Luthadel[22] as the unnamed leader of the Terris refugees who fled the Inquisitor attack on Tathingdwen.
    • The Hero of Ages - Hoid again acts as an informant, this time in Fadrex City. On the advice of Ashweather Cett, Vin goes to Hoid for information, but feels uneasy about the meeting and decides not to speak to him.[23]
    • Alloy of Law - At the wedding of Lord Joshin Yomen and Lady Mi'chelle Ostlin, Hoid is seen speaking to them, once again dressed as a beggar.[24]
    • Shadows of Self - Hoid acts as the new coach driver for Waxillium Ladrian.[25]
    • The Bands of Mourning - In The New Ascendancy broadsheet story 'Nicki Savage, Paranatural Detective in... the Unknown Constructs of Antiquity,' a young white-haired man is mentioned as wanting to tell Savage a story.[26]
    • The Bands of Mourning - Hoid appears as a beggar and gives Wax a strange coin. When asked why he is on the grounds of Kelesina's mansion, he states he "owns the place, technically."
    • Hoid is slated to play a major part in the forthcoming sci-fi Mistborn trilogy.[27]

I'm 95% done with The Way Of Kings. haven't read any of this thread for fear of spoilers. is it safe in here?

9/10 book in my view. here are my thoughts:

after years of abuse from GRRM, with my favorite characters getting killed and no happy endings in sight, it was invigorating to finally get some awesome things happening to the characters I was heavily invested in. when Kaladin charged the Parshendi to save Dalinar, my palms were sweaty. what an awesome ride. the Kaladin and Szeth chapters were my favorites.

the twists at the end were fantastic, and i love how deep things are starting to feel with respect to the world-building and history.

my one complaint on the book, and i find this to be true with almost every fantasy writer except GRRM, is that the characters can feel a bit one-dimensional. there were a couple of times where Dalinar was so honor-bound and naive that it didn't seem real. this is a small gripe, however.

has anyone seen any cool non-spoilery art online of chasmfiends, parshendi, alethi etc? i'm scared to google.
