Everything is in spoiler tags so should be safe. Just be careful which spoilers you click on. I'd wait to finish TWoK before I click any. I've spoilered some fan art. Spoiler Chasmfiend Parshendi Kaladin Shallan Dalinar Adolin Jasnah Szeth
w.r.t Dalinar Spoiler I Don't think he's too one dimensional. Brandon has pretty clearly laid on the reasons why he is the way he is. He used to be bloodthirsty who only cared about war and drink. He disagreed with all of the changes that Gavilar underwent toward the end of his life, and ended up being passed out drunk while his brother fought for his life and died. That fundamentally changed him, he was given a mission by Gavilar's dying words. He began to read have The Way of Kings read to him and adopt their teachings. He still struggles with his love for Navanni and his visions. I can understand how he can be seen as one dimensional, but I believe he is forcing himself to be one dimensional for a very multi dimensional reason.
Spoiler that's a fair point. maybe it was his naivety that i found to be a bit much. side note: love how engaged Sanderson is with his fans.
Sanderson really is the best. He's responded to me on twitter a couple of times before. I really want to go to one of his signings/readings but he doesn't ever seem to come to the southeast that much outside of DragonCon in Atlanta which is always the same weekend as the college fb season opener.
i love that depiction of them, it actually matches up decently with what i thought with respect to the armour, beards, etc.
It is so well scripted. My only beef, iirc, is I was annoyed at how he used the fight to blatantly lay out the “lashing” powers. IMO it felt like the start of a video game RPG where they teach you a tutorial on how to fight. Most of the time his description of his magic systems flows well through the story, but I thought that stood out to me more than normal.
It definitely felt like instructions in how he was describing it, but I imagine the difficulty in attempting to put into words how someone is climbing walls and ceilings and the reader keeps perspective. What bothered me was remembering how boring reading about Shalan was at first and having to take a break from Kaladin. But her story picks up speed after her 2nd chapter. I just finished part 1 and can’t put the book down.
Almost finished with TWoK audiobook. Should be done sometime in the next few days. Minor complaint, though -- it's annoying that the two narrators don't pronounce the names in the same way. Example: Sadeas is pronounced as Suh-dee-us and Sad-ee-us depending on the narrator
I'm finally starting this series tonight. After all I have heard I can't wait to read The Way of Kings.
Same, I'm 20% in. I rushed ASOIAF because I consumed those books so quickly. Trying to pace this and really enjoy the nuance. It's hard lol
I’m 50% through WoR so I won’t be starting tomorrow either. But I’m traveling a lot and have a lot of time to read so hope to start next week
Tor posted all of part 1 of Oathbringer in the lead up to its release so I'll be well into it tomorrow. I started reading Lift's novella Edgedancer tonight and am enjoying the hell out of it. Im gonna finish that first then pick back up on Oathbringer. If you havent read Edgedancer I would highly recommend it
Sooooo, just arived today, but im in the middle of the mistborn trilogy. Like dead middle of book two. Guess ill just hold off until i finish the mistborn trilogy. Really enjoy it btw. Can tell he drew some of the pushing and pulling stuff from it.
90% through my Words of Radiance reread. This book is so fucking great. Can’t wait to start Oathbringer
Have you received your copy from Weller yet? I'm assuming it should be coming in around the release date
Did you check your SPAM folder? Mine was from the same email that sent me my purchase confirmation back when I ordered it. Tracking number says it should arrive today
I am about halfway thru beginning is great then it kinda slowed down for me but it's starting to pick back up now
Sanderson released a few chapters a week in the lead up to its release. Ended up releasing the epilogue and all of part 1 so I had a headstart
Jesus. You are flying through.!About to get back into it (only about 100 pages in after last night). Loving it so far (no surprise)
Vague thoughts so far Part 1 great start enjoyed pretty much all of it Part 2 got kind of slow in some spots for me but still good gonna put this in spoilers even though its not really spoiling anything Spoiler really enjoyed the chapters on members of Bridge 4 helped added a lot of depth to their characters Part 3 awesome start currently on chapter 73 and its starting to get really interesting gonna be a late night as it is starting to get really hard to put down
Only read if you've finished part 3 Spoiler I am actually sad to see Elkohar go. His character transformation was just extremely well done. From being seen as a pompous ass to being a king that truly wants to do well but just doesn't know how to live up to the greatness of his family. As soon as he begins to figure it out he is brutally killed trying to save his son. Just sad shit man also good luck putting the book down during part 3
Finally finished and throughly enjoyed it but I do have some complaints Spoiler The whole Kal/Shallan/Adolin love triangle or whatever was stupid. Sveth comes back as a a Radiant and is pretty much immediately acccepted and the only one to even vaguely say something was Jasnah. Adolin admits to outright murdering Sadeas and nothing happens? Like seriously? Even if he did deserve it no punishment? Taravangian admits to undermining the coalition and trying to have Dalinar assassinated and Dalinar dismisses the idea that he might have been the traitor? also disappointed Kal didnt get his shardplate
Haven’t gotten to read as much as I wanted since it came out. About 40% through. Going to try and knock out a large chunk today
Chapter 54 and 55 Epigraphs Spoiler I'd bet my life that those at least and through the rest of the chapters were written by Sazed. "I would have though, before attaining my current station, that a deity could not be surprised. Obviously, this is not true. I can be surprised. I can perhaps even be naive, I think" "I am the least equipped, of all, to aid you in this endeavor. I am finding that the powers I hold are in such conflict that the most simple of actions can be difficult." The way of talking, ending sentences in ", I think" is a dead giveaway, as is his talking about the conflicting powers of Ruin and Preservation"
Spoiler i just finished the part in Words Of Radiance where Kaladin jumps in to save Adolin during the 4v1 shard fight. holy shit. can't remember the last time a book gave me goosebumps.
I finished WoR last night and will be reading Edgedancer before starting Oath. What a ride, can't put this shit down.
Per the recommendations of this thread, ordered and read all 3 books in the last month or so and just finished Oathbringer That was awesome! Spoiler what's the significance of Wit getting the Pattern spren from the palace in Kholinar? Also any idea when book 4 is coming out? My body is ready.
Probably late 2019 for the 4th book at the earliest. To answer your 2nd question I need to know more about your understanding of his other books and his cosmere general.
Spoiler I've read the Mistborn trilogy but haven't read anything else from Sanderson. I have a basic understanding of the Cosmere and that Wit was in Mistborn trilogy too. I don't plan on reading anymore of his series anytime soon, so I'm down with anything you'd want to spoil
Spoiler Wit is probably the most important character in Sanderson’s books which you should read all of. He has many powers including most likely being a full Mistborn. Being a knights Radiant on top of that will make him ungodly powerful... however something makes it almost impossible for him to kill people for some reason. I recommend reading everything because it’s all interconnected. With all that said Warbreaker is an absolute MUST read
Avoiding this thread like the plague as I am currently ~50% through it and don’t want to even be tempted to spoil myself, but I think Taravangian and his chapters through the last 2 books are some of the greatest things that Sanderson has written outside of the Emperor’s Soul
