I didn't know DOTA was free. Of course I'd prefer that, but the $30 never bothered me considering we pay $60 for a game only to be fucked over way worse. I rationalized it by playing a bit, deciding I liked it enough to "buy the game" and spending $30 on it. Honestly, the best money I've probably ever spent on a game.
Yeah, dota is a bit of an anomaly there. Charging for extra characters on a free game is very reasonable.
Cosmetic microtransactions I will never bitch about, character/hero/champion ect purchases they can ride a thin line in some games, but in MOBAS it usually doesn't give any direct advantage to a player because just because you have that character/ect doesn't mean you will be good with it or dominate because there will always be a counter to it. Microtransactions that give you a competitive advantage regardless of skill that will never be okay.
Yeah.... I still think you need to essentially be on the same power level hour 2-3 as someone who is on hour 200-300 in any game. It's exciting to get better characters, but not in a PvP environment.
One of the devs hinted at cosmetic customization being added in the near future. My guess is they’re going to do that. They aren’t stupid. I’m not sure how much this announcement will do to get people to buy it until they announce those changes and how they plan to re add the purchases. Sad they didn’t do it sooner because the game itself is great.
I love that EA is getting killed over Battlefront and that they are losing a shit ton of money. I hope other developers are taking notice.
Its most likely not the devs fault. And the people who need to take notice are the publishers like EA etc. but they wont because they are making boatloads of money on microtransactions.
