Wife and I have to be up in 6 hours. We just watched episode 3 of defiant ones and agreed on going to bed after episode 4. We're finishing this shit tonight...
I tend to have the unpopular opinion that some of Burns docs are a bit dry but I liked The Dust Bowl. I just didn't know much about that era and how it came to be (drought + farming practices) was pretty interesting to me.
I've watched that one and Cowspiracy (same guy) and it just feels like he wants to push his agenda too hard. There are probably some facts there but it's hard to tell with him, he clearly wants people to go his way. I think his largest point that animal agriculture is something that is unsustainable/destructive and we don't want to talk about it is legit though.
I love that Iovine had no hesitation at signing Gerardo. No shame and cashed in. No Doubt was a fucking great signing. Gwen looks like she's aged 2 years in the last 25 years.
After the talk about Ken Burns Wild West documentary and the way Chinese were treated, I want to visit this museum while in NYC. http://www.mocanyc.org/
I am not your Negro just makes you hate being white. Pretty good look back into the equal rights movement and the ones that died for a cause. you don't see shit like this these days.
yeah, you need to watch some other doc's than if you thought defiant one's was overly informative dblplay1212 help this guy
The Defiant One's didnt even mention Biggies death at all. And not one person would talk about anything important revolving around Suge either. Great doc, but I wish they talked more about Dre leaving Death Row more and someone told the truth on Suge.
Cool story hansel: Had a friend die from cancer when he was 15 or so. I saw his mother like 20 years later when I was visiting my parents and asked her..."what did you ever do with Aaron's 2 dollar bill collection?" She looked at me like I had 3 heads. I said, one day we taped all his 2 dollar bills behind his dresser drawers in his bedroom. She immediately got up and drove home and there they were. His parents essentially left his room untouched and never moved his furniture. About a year later, she sent me one of the 2 dollar bills in a frame. Pretty cool. Something magical about the $2 dollar bill.
Fear of 13 documents Nick Yarris' death sentence for a crime he didn't commit. Explained by him personally. I've watched it twice. Netflix.
Some of these aren't new, but I've been on a documentary kick lately. Betting on Zero (Netflix)- About the Herbalife pyramid scheme. Very, very interesting. Get Me Roger Stone (Netflix)- Initially had no interest in it because I assumed it was some puff piece. It definitely isn't. If you want a glimpse at why Trump got elected and also why he does the things he does, watch this. Going Clear (HBO Go)- It's obviously not new, but I finally got around to it and would recommend it, as well.
I'd like to put this along with the two American Experience docs on Ruby Ridge and the OKC Bombing as surprisingly relevant to the past few weeks. In addition to that, Accidental Courtesy: Darryl Davis, Race and America. I thought the last doc would be a circle jerk but it wasn't and raises some valid criticisms of what he's doing. All three of the ones I listed deal with white supremacy in some way.
To add to this list: Icarus (Netflix)- Fascinating and mind-blowing. About the Russia/Olympics doping scandal. Loved it. Defiant Ones (HBO Go)- About Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre and how they now basically run the music industry. Really good if you're into some of hip-hop's early beginnings, Death Row Records, etc.
From Amazon Prime. It's pretty good. Actually, there's a decent bit of overlap between Defiant Ones and Sound City. Many of the same people were interviewed. That said, I probably think the Defiant Ones is a more interesting topic overall.
Hello yes thanks for the Icarus recommendation it was really good. Guy got lucky as fuck to have that documentary as his "experiment" he originally embarked on fell so goddamn flat
Strong Island premieres on Netflix on 9/15. Looks pretty good, getting good reviews thus far. Filmmaker is the victim's brother fwiw.
Time: The Kalief Browder Story is on Netflix now. Really good so far and heartbreaking. Encompasses everything that is wrong with our criminal justice system.
Found some more worth a look, but I haven't seen yet. They may have been mentioned, but I don't recall these. Witness sounds familiar, but the premise does not. Pretty sure this one has never been mentioned, but also less interesting... Then I just found this one while pulling up the other 2... Whose seen it? Looks awesome. Will probably start the season while working today.

Dead thread. No more documentary watchers on TMB is sad. Anyway, Captive is pretty good. This came up on Amazon Prime, and I think it looks strong.
