Apparently he has already got 4 offers out in about 24 hours. That is part of what has impressed me is how quickly he has fired off on the recruiting front. The videos he did at Clemson and SMU have been great and show a different more relaxed side than most HC you find in the country. He has a couple in home visits set and is already getting the attention of some big time recruits which we could use. It also appears Morris has been known to find targets for recruiting early. Being early on some of these kids will definitely be helpful going forward.
Clemson fans (I won't tag your team but for those following the thread), How good was your defense in Morris' first year there? How much did you rely on D in your quick turnaround?
We gave up 70 in the bowl that year. The defense was great in 2 games, both against VT. All the other games we won it was mostly due to offense, although the D did get stops sometimes. Of course the RB, top 6 WRs and TE from that team are all still in the NFL. The defense started to catch up to the offense in 2013. 2011 and 2012, if we won it was typically gonna be a shootout. The 2011 Maryland and 2012 NC State box scores would be good to look up
Just chiming in regarding Chad. Clemson grad here. Y'all got a good one. Not sure about the Clemson comparison bc Dabo somehow hauled in one of our best classes ever coming off our bad 2010 season and Tajh Boyd was on campus. The frustrating part will be the games his first couple years where you will go 3 and out so fast that you dig yourself in a hole quickly. Couple of blowouts. But when it's rolling, it's rolling and it's beautiful. Also, as stated, Chad began to out think himself calling stupid plays when running the ball is working fine. Great talent evaluator. He was on Chad Kelly extremely early. DW very early. He really wanted to offer Lamar Jackson, who was not rated highly at the time, but we offered local guy KellyBryant instead. My assumption is that he's very organized and learned a lot from Dabo on how to lead and manage, who along with Saban, has to be the most detailed and organized coach out there. I watched his presser today. I'm a fan and hope he does well for y'all. Just don't think about taking Venables... Go steal Aranda.
How bad do we need this guy? One of the first prospects new Arkansas coach Chad Morris connected with is 247Sports's top-ranked player in the state quarterback Gerry Bohanon. The Top247 recruit says he spoke with Morris on Wednesday and Thursday. "I like him," Bohanon said. "He seems like a wonderful guy." Bohanon added that Morris will be in to see him on Monday. As it stands now, the Earle (Ark.) High standout is strongly considering Baylor, North Carolina and the Razorbacks. He took his official to Fayetteville back in early November and has been to campus several times. Bohanon sees tremendous opportunity playing for Morris. "What he did with Deshaun Watson and Tahj Boyd," Bohanon said regarding what stands out. Bohanon is expected to enroll early at the school of his choice. 247Sports ranks Bohanon as the nation's No. 9 dual-threat passer and No. 243 prospect overall.
He would be a big pickup from a long term asset. I don’t think he is ready to play as a Freshman but if we develop him, he is exactly the type of QB you want to run Moriss’ system. I also saw we just offered Hudson Card from Lake Travis. Scheduled to graduate in 2020. Dual threat QB. It seems NST was dead on that he gets on kids early and we might be watching teams in the SEC following who we offer.
I mean morn super high on Bohanon. Kid plays 2A ball in Arkansas. That's a huge fucking jump to SEC play. Ty Storey was a monster in 3A ball and look how that's turned out. He's about to transfer to Arky State or UCA as a grad transfer. Bohanon is good, but he's not a top 150 player until he proves he can do it against a bunch of kids from towns of 2k people.
I would add though that story seems like Gus used us to get a raise which is what many of us thought he would do. Hopefully now though the Gus lovers will finally get over him.
Norvell had nothing shady in his past. He was content at Memphis but would have taken the Arkansas job had we offered because it was a natural fit for him. We didn't, so he signed the extension. Cut and dry.
Trust me there's zero chance someone would willingly stay at Memphis long term when there is 300 coach openings and you're one of the hottest young names in coaching.

Not going to lie, I'm pretty excited about the talent from Texas we are going to be able to pull now. I think that aspect is probably going to be his biggest asset for us.
