Netflix just posted a trailer for 'The Crown,' a drama series about Queen Elizabeth. Looks like it could be p good
Just finished episode 7. It's truly terrific. Claire Foy deserves an Emmy. The show got rave reviews before i watched it and can be considered Netflix's true Drama contender...House of Cards was about the acting but this is a great drama. Lithgow is good, not GREAT, as Winston Churchill
Watched the first 3. Slow burn but really good. Not a show I can marathon because the pace is slow. But Im really liking it
Claire Foy and Matt Smith are only signed on for the first 2 seasons, then they will recast for future seasons for the older Elizabeth and Phillip
5 eps in. Really enjoying this. Im constantly pausing and going to wikipedia. Learning a bunch of shit I didnt know about recent history in the UK. Im basically clueless from post WW2 - the 80s.
It's so well done, even by an Anglophile's standards. Creative license was taken though, which is fine by me. The second episode is near perfect with the pacing, music, etc.
This, just got through it all and I love it. But I learned so much that I don't know (and feel bad for some of them that I didnt know) always looking up shit that I had questions about. Same with the new netflix show Roman Empire: Reign of blood which is excellent
A king abdicating like that had to be enormous news around the world back then, I just couldn't even imagine
Finished this yesterday, loved it. Wasn't blown away with Lithgow as Churchill, but that's an impossibly tough role.
I think by the end I Loved Lithgow as Churchill and what he brought to the role. During the show i thought he was fine but the Painting episode was magnificent
Finished the season and it's done really well. I can see why it has won the awards it has. I loved Lithgow as Churchill.
Biggest mistake shows make is trying to just a perfect physical fit for Churchill. Glad they went the way they did. I realize now that this show represents the new age soap opera and I'm embarrassed I liked it so much
sorry just seeing this now. basically making the conflict over margaret marrying peter townsend more than it was. the queen wouldn't give her permission without having the law changed. anthony eden was going to change the law and the queen supported him. margaret wasn't going to have to give up everything, just take smaller allowance and be taken out of the line of succession. ultimately, i think she just didn't love him enough to marry him. the time apart didn't help. also the smog is very dramatized. smogs were common at that time. the severity of it wasn't determined til after when they saw the body count. Churchill's secretary dying was fake.
Half way through 2nd season. Phillip's quick comments and looks he gives people crack me up. Had no idea her uncle was cool with Nazis
Sorry, it's the 5th or 6th episode that deals with this. Wasnt trying to be random But yep, I knew the royals were related but I don't think he had any family ties to Nazis outside of his sister(sisters ?) Marrying in I know Nicholas II was a cousin to King George and I believe they were cousins with Kaiser Bill of Germany also. George turned his back on Nick and wouldnt allow him to seek asylum in England and he was killed soon after. They looked like brothers.
Yeah, I was just throwing in a random comment and hadn't had enough coffee yet. So yes, definitely interesting the lives some of them lived. I read more about all of them because of Rasputin initially.
For those of you who have enjoyed Broadchurch, the female lead from that show will be the new Queen Elizabeth. Can't remember her name. Helena Bonham Carter has been rumored as Princess Margaret.
When I started watching this show, I had no idea I would become wholly satisfied with it after each and every episode. Truly great TV.
It just now hit me that you referring to Olivia Colman. I still haven't seen broadchurch, but I'm a big fan of hers. She's dope.
FUCK. I forgot they are replacing the cast for S3 and beyond to reflect the passing of time no more Vanessa Kirby
New Queen. Actress from Broadchurch. Olivia Colman. Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret Tobias Menzies as Prince Phillip
