My parents have some morning show on. Had some chode R house member on talking about infrastructure. The chode said that he wasn’t sure how they were going to do it because they didn’t want to vote for something that would raise the deficit.
I'm suggesting that they already treated Obamacare, a conservative health plan, as if it were some socialist disaster.
We just need one of our resident fucktards to tell us about how many “deals” take place on the links.
One of the lessons Democrats should have taken from the Obama presidency - Right wing media is going to tear you to shreds no matter what, even if you enact a right wing healthcare program. The lesson they actually took - We need to be even more cowardly and timid then maybe Fox News will say nice things about us.
So you think their capacity for incremental propanga and inflaming outrage against something like single payer is tapped out? Fox. The Kochs. The Mercer’s.
Here's what you don't understand - they're going to shit on anything Democrats do. Literally anything. JFC why on earth do you want Democratic policies to be filtered through Fox News in the first place?
It’s not about making nice with Fox. It’s understanding they have unlimited resources to wage war against Dems and progressive ideals, and a willing constituency they will activate. Waiving it off is not the way to deal with it.
Or be totally hip and trendy and open a box of balloons either red or blue and we can have our own gender reveal party.
You don’t understand much of anything, but you have a lot of opinions. You seem more interested in shouting me down. If you want to translate something like single payer to reality, you need to be able to deal with the onslaught from Fox and team, and avoid the vaporware approach of funding and running it a la Bernie.
Democrats have been afraid to do much of anything and have lost election after election. Why on earth do you think the path to passing a meaningful piece of legislation is to be even more scared? Please just explain why you think we should all be pussies.
Quick reminder: Fox News went insane when Obama ordered "fancy mustard". They now gobble the cock of a guy who gold plates everything. They have no compass, they are a propaganda arm. Tailoring anything to suit them is a completely fruitless effort.
indeed thinks wee need to make sure everything the DNC does is okayed by Fox News though so maybe they were right to be mad at mustard. The country is more like Ohio you know.
I've breezed past most of that conversation, I just know that Nancy Pelosi could come out and say Trump is the greatest president ever and they would spin it into the deep state trying to nuzzle up to Trump so they can take him down from the inside with a lizard man and a magic bullet.
Man, I don’t think that’s what indeed id saying at all. What I *think* he’s saying that - just like with Obamacare - Dems need to be able to withstand the withering attacks against whatever they want to enact. And neither of you is wrong if we use Obamacare as an example - he’s right that you couldn’t get red state Senate Dems to pass it given the slim majority without going through the entire painful year-long process. And you (and others) are right that going through the regular order didn’t matter at the end of the day - Dems got hammered for it and lost majorities in both houses because FNC et al pilloried it as “socialism.” I tend to agree that Dems need to take the same approach as the GOP going forward - let a handful feign taking a principled position (see Collins, Rubio etc on the tax bill) and then ram the thing through. The good news imo - the $1.5T tax giveaway allows for a pretty easy targeted pay-for on most of this stuff. Resetting the tax rates on the rich and corporations pays for a lot of healthcare, poor sick kids, community college education, etc.
Wondering for even half a second how any policy put forth by the Democrats will be interpreted on right wing media is something only a dumbass would do. Directly address the malefactors that make people's lives worse, loudly and unabashedly explain to them how you will fix those problems, and ride the wave. Follow the Labour playbook. They made up like 20 points after they released their manifesto and had millennial turnout of 74% in the snap election.
Most people don't know what's best for them. Listening to what they want is a waste of time and energy. Tell them what's good for them and show them why. That's how you win elections. Plus once you've won the election you can actually enact positive change.
That’s what the GOP is doing right now. It’ll be good for you to give money to rich people. Then watch it come back to you ten-fold. 35% of America is someone’s grandma falling for the Nigerian prince email.
Using Bill Clinton's wife vs an outsider of the Dem party as proof Black voters don't want progressive ideas is pretty fucking terrible
Maybe it's just me, but if I were gonna chastise someone for, in part, apparently wanting little more than lip service paid to social issues, I wouldn't immediately follow it up by whitewashing disagreement on social issues just to try to shoehorn a comparison. Because doing that would, among other things, be a real bad look.
That's fair. It's also fair to say that Hillary Clinton was a horrible candidate and the Democratic Party suffered defeats all across the country because of it.
It's also fair to say that people who will, on one hand, complain about the impact of Russia, propaganda, sexism, and racism on Clinton's loss, while on the other hand use that loss as evidence to argue against keeping her positions are doing so in bad faith.
Catering to FOX News and playing nice has been a study in futility. The Dems are going to be damned by them and their cronies no matter if they tiptoe and cater or if they leap off the top buckle with a flying elbow. Might as well go hard and try to energize the voters they can get (who are the majority) in that situation.
Someone explain why Democrats are fine with failure as long as you can blame it on racism, sexism, or Russia.
It could be that the type of people that read NYT/WaPo/etc are fascinated by rural white trashy type people and those articles generate a lot of traffic. The articles sort of have the peering behind the curtain at a culture you can turn your nose up at aspect to them sort of like watching The Wonderful Whites of WV. Admittedly I fall into that trap from time to time on those type of articles.
Lewis, a registered Democrat, trusts Trump because he trusts his values. And because of that, he trusts Trump’s other promises — so strongly he can’t think of anything that would shake that faith in him. If the factories and mines don’t come back, he’ll blame the opposition. If there isn’t a wall on the Mexico border, he says, it won’t be because Trump didn’t try. If investigators find his campaign colluded with Russians, it’s because so many people are so determined to bring him down. He watches all the news stations, he says, toggling back and forth as he performs his own calculations to figure out what he wants to believe. He almost always sides with Fox News and anchors who dismiss allegations of Russian collusion as a “witch hunt” and tout the president’s declarations of accomplishments. The people against Trump are, by extension, against people like him, too, Lewis figures. “They don’t care if we starve to death out here, because they don’t care the first thing about anybody other than their pockets being full,” he believes. “Donald Trump doesn’t care about that because Donald Trump’s pockets are already full. That’s the reason I’ve stuck with him.”
Well that's a nice big middle finger in the face of all those Baby Boomers who put him in office. These CMPs are basically like an asshole tax for shady nursing home operators. They add up quick too, when you're managing a couple of dozen facilities. On the one hand, it's just another example of corporations fucking over the customer; on the other hand, it's fucking over Baby Boomers and it has an added bonus of making my job a little easier. I'm a little torn on this one.
the justification i am hearing is that taxes dont count because it is our money, but paying for stuff with that money counts.
