Read through the NYT interview, wow, does this guy literally have shit for brains? How could anyone think this guy is intelligent?
The interview is just another piece of evidence that Trump was the worst possible option to elevate to POTUS, yet people did it. But this has been clear for years, for anyone with ability to process information and use judgement. I was in shock for months after Election Day that more voters didn’t understand how completely unfit this fucker was to be given the most powerful job in the world, that they didn’t stop and say hey, it’s a bad idea to vote for Trump if I care about the general well being and future of the United States.
Yeah, apparently giving your base nothing to vote for and instead running on "Hey I'm not Donald Trump so vote for me" isn't a good strategy. Fingers crossed they don't do it again in 2020, right?
Maggie and the the NYT crew are on the extreme defensive regarding that interview. They are all rejecting the motion that there should have been probing questions or any push back on clearly false statements. One of their lines is, it was impromptu, Mike Schmidt didn’t have a chance to prep. Isn’t being ready to probe the subject you are following and covering part of the job to these people? It’s irresponsible, even tho the IV gave forth a lot of nuggets.
Excellent. It takes a strong and courageous leader to shit on the postal service the week after Christmas.
Dammit! It came so close! We could finally have had it all ended for us. Knowing our luck though it would have just landed harmlessly in the Pacific like all the other space junk. https://news.sky.com/story/surprise-bus-sized-asteroid-skims-past-earth-at-21000mph-11187594
I don't care that he is golfing. I actually want him to golf everyday from here on out while denying that he is doing it.
Always been annoyong to me how GOP thinks the postal service needs to be profitable and not treated as a service to citizens. It's mandatory they deliver to every address or that everyone has access to the mail. It's a basic comms service for the country. But derrrrrrp privitize everything what could go wrong.
It doesn't have to be privatized but that doesn't mean that measures to improve the level of efficiency that it operates at can't be improved upon
This is an attack in Bezos because he's a liberal....and he also owns the WaPo. The USPS just got caught in the crossfire. Also, doesn't Congress have to vote to raise the price of postage??
There are a number of things that can be done to make it more efficient. Stop delivering mail six days a week to the middle of nowhere for 43 cents is one example. But unless you are willing to change the parameters of their mandate, were talking pennies and not pounds. (Edit - and btw, I still think that the usps is a service that the government provides, not an opportunity for the government to make money, so I'm not suggesting changing the mandate).
I ended up paying the remainder of my assessed taxes that were due next month now. I've read they're not going to let you deduct taxes paid but not assessed, so I'd rather not shell out the dough for no benefit. He should get the USPS to allow people send alcohol through the post office. That would make me like him for a second or two.
Do you have any specific changes in mind? Otherwise this seems like a meaningless comment considering that it's going to be hard to find people opposed to improving efficiency
republican voter: Why does USPS lose money while Fed-Ex and UPS make money? Also republican voter: The price of a stamp is going up again?
Ending Saturday delivery Consolidate post offices Consolidate mail boxes (1 drop location let neighborhood) End prefunding of retiree healthcare
The guy who apparently set up the Trump interview, Chris Ruddy of Newsmax, is about the biggest ring-kisser you will find anywhere.
So... make it less accessible and a worse place to work? This is usually what happens when this topic comes up
The USPS: 1) Receives $0 in appropriated funds from Congress 2) Routinely turns in billion dollar profits on operations 3) Would be widely lauded for the above if Congress didn't require it to be the only agency in government that must prefund its pension obligations
Prefunding 50 years of retiree health insurance is lunacy. Fucking Bernie Sanders helped introduce legislation to do away with that WITH union support You can rent space in existing businesses and not have the overhead, which would be especially useful in small rural towns. I'd love to see the correlation between towns that still have post offices and towns that don't have grocery stores
it's the same thing with roads and highways. WE NEED TO PRIVATIZE OUR ROADS AN' HIGHWAYS! $40 "flex" tolls WHY ARE THE TOLLS SO HIGH, I CAN'T AFFORD THAT!!!
Republicans tried this a few years ago, but when they were notified of which posts offices were being closed they and democrats all fought like hell to prevent any offices located in their districts from closing. While this is an idea that makes sense there’s too much politics involved for it to actually happen.
We have 9 mailbox locations in a condominium complex of 108 units. Half of them are located in sketchy areas where someone inevitably runs into one or one gets vandalized. It also takes the mailman about 45 minutes to get through the complex because he has to unlock a ton of boxes. I’ve lobbied the HOA to invest in a single structure rather than paying to replace the 4 or 5 that get the shit beat out of them several times a year. What I’ve learned is people are assholes and largely don’t want to better the lives of postal workers or thank them for doing a pretty dangerous and difficult job. But my neighbors won’t hesitate to berate them for coming a little late during the holiday rush.
I live across the river in DC, watching this entire saga unfold over the course of the last few years. (of course, I also drive nova roads quite a bit too). Residents of PW & Loudoun counties versus residents of Arlington.
I was supposed to become more conservative as I got older, but that hasn't happened. What I have learned, though, is that people want nice public services but they don't want to pay for anything. For years people would bitch and moan about the condition of the schools in my hometown and then they killed every school bond for like 20 years.
I'm not sure what kind of system you guys use, but nearly all of the big boxes have a master back panel that opens up and they can fill the individual slots from the back
It’s that but it makes no sense from our perspective to pay to replace boxes multiple times a year because they’re cheap and easily destroyed. And why open 9 of them when you can do 1?
Our hood still has mailboxes attached to houses, so a carrier has to walk our route. Hugely inefficient, but they won’t change the historic code in our village to allow for on-street mailboxes.
