buddy I'm not sitting around googling shit to act like I know about how I watched my team on television, but when I get home I'll use google support that Marlins games came on 33, wami, and then IOn before going to foxsports in MY market area.

It's clear you have no clue how TV contracts work. They are much bigger than "channel 33."

The part you don't understand is FSN is the one that put the game on "channel 33." FSN was the TV partner in 2004. The channel you watched it on is irrelevant.

Watching the fish/heat then it goes right into a marathon of George Lopez. I think that was the only show on that Channel.

I just get annoyed when people blame someone for doing someone that makes sense. It was the same shit up here with Khan the last few years. People cried about him not spending all of the cap every year while the stadium was half empty every weekend. I don't blame the man for balancing the budget.

i don’t have a problem with what Jeter did; i have a problem with the league continuing to treat this franchise as a means to get people rich, not actually win games

That's my fault I shouldn't have engaged him on symantics of what channel it came on when the overall point got derailed (good job by him). The Marlins have plenty of revenue opportunities that they either fucked up or didn't take advantage of and it has nothing to do with fans not showing up. The reality is MLB screwed Miami again by giving a team to an owner who can't properly get this community behind the team and take advantage of the revenue streams available. Maybe Jeter builds the next Astros but if he doesn't it won't matter since the owners will always be able to turn a profit.

What did you want the league to do? Find a buyer that was willing to take a $50m loss a year on a billion dollar investment? Those people don't exist.

And for the record, it's the league's job to make sure the owners get rich. That's what they are there for.

    Bottom 5 attendance.

    Bottom 5 tv ratings.

    ALL THE REVENUE STREAMS!

And somehow Houston that was in the same boat signed a TV deal that makes 3times as much as the Marlins tv makes, and that would take care of this fifty million dollar per year loss that you keep spouting about with not proof that it actually exists.

Yes, their old deal expired and they signed a new one in 2016. Their old deal was worse than your current deal.

You're not naive enough to think those people were willing to lose $50m a year bc they love Miami, are you? They were going to do the exact same thing. The issue is the payroll should have never been bumped to $110m like it was last year. This wouldn't be an issue if they never signed Stanton to that huge deal and had a $75m payroll last year. The new regime is paying for the sins of the old one, and lord know that's a long list.

Regardless of whether you feel it is the right move or not - the new ownership has totally pissed off Marins fans who were already on edge after being burned so many times. Maybe a total fire sale is the fastest way to build a good franchise, but it certainly isn’t the best way to garner the trust and happiness of fans.

I assume that the new owners would like to attract spectators and eyeballs, and I think they may have fucked themselves, unless they build a winner very quickly.

I think that a smarter move would have been to slowly restructure the org without getting rid of everybody at the same time. Jettison Stanton, but try to strengthen the rest of the current core. At least you save some face in the near term. Maybe it doesn’t result in a stronger franchise as quickly, but I’d imagine that more fans would come see it.

Attendance for the next few years might rival Tampa.

Look, if Jeets builds a winner and attendance legitimately improves, I’ll admit I was wrong and they did things the right way.

Smh dude stop it already Houston signed a deal back in 2012 with Comcast Sports that was supposed to pay them on average 80M a year but when that channel ended up failing they signed a new deal with Root Sports to get the money. Everyone including the idiot that signed the deal agrees the Marlins mismanaged their TV contract value, even clubs like the Nationals who signed an original deal in 06 when the Marlins did made sure they had the ability to renegotiate their contract for more money and Samson didn't do that.

"On the TV deal side, I spend as much time in [Los Angeles] as I do in Miami these days," Samson said. "I have great respect for FOX and for the people there. They know, and we know, that our current TV deal is in a place where it's not commensurate with the revenue that should be coming to the team, given the content that we're giving. That is no fault of anybody's but mine."

He locked his team into a long term deal with no ability to renegotiate the value. Stop acting like this is a small market team. It's a middle market team and failure by the previous owners is the only thing that has prevented it from operating as such. That's why Loria was able to justify a 1.2B sale price. It's economist keep talking about 3x's the current revenue streams that would be available to any new owner through a new TV contract and Stadium naming rights fees. It's why Jeter talks about wanted to build to 2020 and then having a middle market payroll he's not planning on having a fucking small market payroll for ever. That's why people are pissed because they team doesn't need to be on a budget for ever they just need to get to 2020, but Jeter and his group don't have any money left to float the team until that point. They should have given the team to someone who would have been able to responsibly spend money over the next three years. Not strip it down until they can get to their payday advance in three years.

that's the thing Lebby was pissed about. The previous team wasn't a contender or two pitchers away so a responsible rebuild was needed. However a fire sale was not. Stanton didn't need to be traded away so badly that you're paying someone to take the MVP off of your hands and Ozuno didn't need to be traded asap. That's why he was so pissed off because the bottom line was just to get this team to a point that Jeter wouldn't need to ask his investors for anymore money and they can just use to current revenue money to float the team until they get to their golden ticket in 3 years.

The Marlins signed their TV deal in 2005. A lot has changed since then. The contract the signed wasn't bad at all then. If you want to hold it against them that they didn't see the DVR changing live TV programming forever and making live sports contracts skyrocket, go for it.

If it makes you feel better, the Braves are locked into $30m a year all the way until 2027.

So MLB should have forced Loria to sell to a bid $200m lower so the lower bid could use lose $200m over the next 4 seasons by having a payroll too high for the revenue to club brings in?

What kind of offer would it take for Miami fans to be okay with Yelich/Realmuto deals? I think there's a reasonable argument for trading them, but you have to hit HRs in the process. What would constitute a HR deal for you guys?

The Yelich deal that interests me the most would be LAD, with Miami getting Buehler and Verdugo in return, along with a couple lower level guys.

I don't know what to make of Realmuto's market, so I don't even know where to start on a price in trade. Seems like catchers of his caliber are never traded in their primes for one reason or another.

Highest paid Marlins in 2018, brought to you by Michael Hill:

    -Martin Prado $13mil
    -Starlin Castro $11mil
    -Wi Yin Chen $10mil
    -Brad Ziegler $9 mil
    -Junichi Tazawa $7mil

These 5 bums make up over half of the teams payroll for the year.

It should literally be criminal that he still has a job

EDIT: Forgot to add the recently released Edinson Volquez who is owed $13 mill, with his contract added it makes 70% of the years payroll expense

If this is good as it gets:

I am going (2nd time) for a wedding. Will have friday to go drinking with a group of friends (6-8 people). Where is a good spot to go bar hopping? Not on the beach, not clubby.
