Putting down new floors. Old tile glue still stuck to concrete slab. Guy came out with a big grinder and grinded that shit away to a clean slab. Will now lay new down over it, nice and level.
This thread has been a little too Big12-ish lately. Could use a little more SEC-type attitude/persona.
Buyers agreed to a $5k credit. Looks like everything is good to go for closing as long as their financing goes through.
Had a double tile corner shower shelf split in half in our shower. Tile guy said it’s not normal and will charge us to replace. We have been in the house for less than a year. Is this something typically covered under new construction warranty? How hard would it be to replace on my own? I already have extra tile and grout and would just need the bull nose. I have access to a tile cutter.
I too get a little uncomfortable when I am at a party too long that is a little above my classiness. T's & P's bro, just watch everyone else eat the food first and then do it like they do it.
Anyone ever installed hanging benches from a front porch? Did you do it yourself or have someone else do it? Looking to hang two benches from the front porch ceiling. Not sure about beams, etc but the roof overhangs the porch so i'm thinking there are a bunch. It's a twelve foot ceiling which doesn't help with installation. Not even sure who I would call to do it.
It is. Waiting for him to call me back. He dodged my last request when the shelving in our master closet collapsed. Turns out he didn’t mount them in studs and just used wall anchors. I fixed that on my own too because at least I know it’s done right.
He’s my good friends Dad. Overall it was a pretty smooth build process and he gave me some options to do things not typical like installing my own floors. I’m not going to burn a relationship over a few hundred bucks. If something major needed to be fixed it would be a different story.
I get that. While you have a good attitude about the whole thing, part of the privilege of working on someones home is that they are supposed to trust you. A contractor earns that trust by doing things as if he were working on his own home, and doing what he says. My irritation is more to do with the shelving, which is a workmanship error, and less to do with the shower problem, which conceivably is a material failure. I hope your positive attitude gets you good service on the issues.
Does anyone else just love starting a fire in a fire pit or Chimenea? I bought one and have spent a few weekends cutting firewood and prepping. It’s now my favorite thing to come home after drinks on Friday to start a fire and a cigar.
30 years from now we're really going to appreciate the fine work done by Devin Nunes during this administration
Got the local tree guy doing some work in the yard today. Guy is great, give him 200 bucks and he'll get rid of all the trees and limbs you want
Who wants to give this a guess? Living room fan (dimmable and with a remote) does this know. As soon as you turn it on.
Shit, I had this happen to mine. I am trying to remember what we had to do to fix it. It was something in the wiring inside the fan I believe. Here you go, I believe it was something along these lines.
For what it's worth, that device is for fire prevention. I'm not qualified to opine on how much of a "danger" it is to modify the fan like the video suggests. But if you're risk averse and/or don't want to give your homeowner's insurance company a reason to deny your claim after a fire starts in the fan, you could contact the manufacturer and see if they will send you a replacement part and/or replacement fan. Alternatively (and perhaps more efficient than dealing with the manufacturer), if you purchased the fan recently from Home Depot or Lowe's or a place like that, they may be willing to simply swap out the fan for a new one if you're willing to hang a new one. I did the latter recently when I hung a fan that had a short in it, which caused the circuit to trip anytime the light was engaged. They swapped fans with me, no questions asked. I had bought it about two months prior but had only just then installed it.
I gotta repair it now because I'm putting the house on the market at the end of the month. And it was purchased by the previous owner who knows how long ago, so there goes the return option. Electrical ain't my strong suit though, may show the vid to a contractor and see what they think.
Actually, it's Hampton Bay and the manual says there's a lifetime warranty on the motor, so it's worth checking. will update.
water pipe that feeds upstairs toilet decided to have a leak in the valve. Turned off water and tried removing it myself to replace it, should have been easy fix. Damn thing is like stripped from teh inside and some sort of buildup has limited my ability to remove the damn thing. Luckily hvae home warranty so put in a request at 10 pm last night. They call and say they can't find anyone until tomorrow and that since I put in request after hours it still fulfills their 24 hour obligation (not happy). Looks like we will be without water for another day, which is pleasant with a 1 year old.
5 weeks and one lowball offer that I didn’t bother countering... dropped the price by 5k to show some flexibility. Fucking real estate
Called Hampton Bay. They told me to Bypass the receiver. Chick gave me three second instructions over the phone. Prayed and did it. Seems to be working now(at full speed) so receiver is bad. I believe I will now reward myself with a beer.
Tried to convince her it was part of the motor so it should be covered under the lifetime warranty. Her (and general logic) disagreed...but 15 bucks is a lot cheaper than having an electrician come out.
Honestly saw that video this morning while working and thought that was the home automation thread. Thought you pulled a Lech and had some disco lights going while music blared throughout your house.
Got an appraiser coming out tomorrow to do a new appraisal so that () I can get rid of PMI on my mortgage. According to my Zestimate I should clear enough equity (by a good bit too), still nervous though.
Really it pissed me off that I didn't try to fix it a long time ago. I've just left it off and been using lamps. Things a single guy can get away with. Appreciate the help.
Job is slightly changing will need to be on the phone more. Any suggestions on a good home phone. I’d like a good speaker phone option and a good headset (preferably wireless). If it’s expandable to have wireless handsets that would be good too.
