What are some games, series, genres etc that you just don't understand the appeal of and consider to be overrated. I'll start with any Resident Evil game before 4
Yeah I have a big group of guys that I play CoD and BF with who won't even touch Destiny, Overwatch and Fortnite because they're "too cartoonish". That's a take I just can't understand
Ehh those controls at the time were not tanky at all. Maybe they haven't aged well but at the time it was new and felt great
Makes sense. But I stand by the fact it was innovative at the time and certainly MUCH better than the camera angle issues and controls of the ones prior
I've tried multiple times to get into the uncharted series and I just can't do it. I prefer the new tomb raider
Final Fantasy 7 Yeah, I said it. I like the game fine but it's wayyyy down this list for me inthat era of JRPGs
Yeah, definitely not my favorite. Thought I'd enjoy Mirror's Edge back when it first came out, but remember testing it on gamefly and realizing platformer games, even modern ones, are not fun to me.
How do you define platformers? It’s kinda murky to me and imo tons of games can be considered platformers. Imo Zelda is more of a platformer than Rachet and Clank.
Cut scenes that are suppose to be the climax of an intense fight/chase that are just first person views of shit falling/crashing. I think in the new COD you barely escape being crushed to death 12 separate times.
Kinda random submission...but I feel like a lot of people look fondly back on Diddy Kong Racing. It had some cool elements, but it sucked back then and doesn’t really deserve to be remembered as a good game.
if there's not a counter in the corner of the screen telling me how many more rings/gems/coins to collect it isn't a platformer.
Absolutely but games that do it justice are truly elite games. Jump scare games because they are so easy to make and they just flood the market with them.
Has the rerelease come out yet? The original was pretty damn cool but it felt like a tech demo in a lot of ways.
It is my favorite game of all time but I don't hate you I understand that the combat was wonky and the gameplay isn't for everyone just like The Last Guardian.
Idk if it's like souls but it's certainly a game I've given a hard time over the years due to the fact that I just don't think it's fun. It was beautiful at the time, has an incredible story and one of the better endings in gaming.. I'm just the kind of guy who expects all that wrapped up into a fun package when we talk about "greatest games ever made". I understand why people love it, I don't understand why it's always considered an all time game
Dynasty Warriors 9 is a perfect example of this. DW games are fun pick up and play slay hundreds of soldiers and fight the mini bosses and bosses of the level. DW9 adds in an open world to the game, so instead of constant action you spend so much time riding a horse to a small skirmish or mini boss, but they are so spread out it just becomes tedious just to get to a small 5 min or so fight.
JMO- the importance of a good plot/story in games. I mean if it has a good one all the better, but if it doesn't, I'm really not upset about it. To borrow from Bill Burr, it's always seemed like going to a warm place and being upset that there's no pond hockey. Borderlands 1 and 2 were some of my favorite games ever and the plot of those games is basically two pieces of swiss cheese being held together by scotch tape.
Borderlands 2 made up for any flaws in storytelling by being hilarious. I agree with you here 100% and I really get kind of annoyed when games make an attempt to be a storytelling platform and completely disregard the idea of having a good time (hence my issue with SOTC). Primarily, I came for a good time and anything wrt a solid storytelling aspect is always a very welcome bonus
borderlands 2 had some story. it wasn't witcher 3 or bioshock infinite, but there was at least something there. borderlands had very little that i can remember. but games like that are different because they're designed to allow the player to fuck around while having a good time with friends. try soloing borderlands 1 and you'll feel the lack of story. at least imo
Yeah the dialogue was amazing in that game. The part in the beginning where Jack is insulting you while shoveling pretzels in his mouth over the intercom is maybe the hardest I've laughed at anything in a game.
I mean 2 had one but it was extremely flimsy and shallow. It's like one deus ex machina after another. I solo'd 1 multiple times and loved it despite it having almost no story. That's kinda my point.
fair. i haven't heard of many people soloing either game. i soloed both and found 2 more enjoyable than 1. the story is flimsy, but i think just having a solid villain helps a lot. i think i would agree that having a strong story isn't a necessity in a game, but i've found that games that have strong stories tend to be more memorable. but maybe that's just me
