Spoiler Bobbi has definitely been introduced earlier than in the books. She wasn't introduced until after the protomolecule crashed Eros into Venus. I didnt catch where they were in the show, but that reminded me of the Ganymede incident that introduced Bobbi in the books. It's been a while since I read all that. I think it happened in the 2nd book Were they on Ganymede ??
Jupiter was in the background so I'm assuming they were on Ganymede. The Martian captain may have even mentioned it, I can't recall. That was a very truncated version of the incident, I'm hoping we get more of it in flashbacks.
Fun facts about Ganymede - only moon that we know that has a magnetic field - internal oceans hold more water than all of earth's oceans - no atmoshpere
No idea how they'll handle it; kind of made me wonder if it was a budget decision. Couldn't afford to spend the money on elaborate special effects.
The martian suits in general are smaller/lighter than I had imagined. I had thought they would have looked something more like this:
Another great episode. The blood snowflakes falling on Bobbie's mask at the start of the episode was a great visual.
Last night's episode was pretty good. I think the belters have lost all moral credibility at this point.
Important to know that Dawes group is just a faction of the belters, and not necessarily representative of all belters.
Yeah, but besides him, I hate how dumb the other factions are. They don't understand what a nuclear deterrent is. Also the crew of that refugee freighter, scumbags. I have a crush on Drummer, I'm glad she didn't betray Fred.
Coworker recommended this to me after stumbling into it on Prime. Just caught up. Lots of fun. Loved the Blade Runner noir vibe for the first few (ceres) episodes. Shoutout to Cutty! (seriously, glad he got work here). Shoreh is a predictably awesome force on screen. It's nice that Bobbie became somebody I can enjoy after being mostly god awful through her first several appearances. Stoked for s3 in... 2018??
Thoughts on last night? Pretty good. Excited for the last 2 episodes. Interesting to see Noami split from the group.
didn't like Naomi and Amos splitting from Holden but there's four storylines I'm legitimately invested in right now which is really impressive.
Minor gripe - The CGI of the Roci slingshotting around the moons was distractingly bad. I get it's a limited budget, but it almost took me out of the moment. Not a huge deal but that stuck out to me. Also Bobbie punching out her commander was great.
That and he has a Ned Stark-esque conviction do due the honorable/right thing (although not nearly as naive). No way would he let her go solo, romantic relationship or not.
Spoiler Seemed like it would have been a better move for Mars to have shot Bobbie instead of letting her defect, no? Had a little trouble with that part of the ep...
Wouldn't that have been murder in plain site of tons of witnessses? We see a lot of it out in the belt but I don't think it's exactly condoned on earth.
Totally, but isn't Mars (and the UN for that matter) a largely fascist operation as well? You would think that they could control the narrative however they see fit. "She was a traitor" "She went insane due to the trauma of losing her team" etc. And hell, given the technology they could probably have just stunned her too, right? Just saying. Mind you, it doesn't matter what Earth thinks. All that matters is whether or not the navy can sell it to the Martian people.
I odnt know either would be described as fascist. Regardless her commander is the traitor. He is working outside of the Martian government to buy this protomolecule. Bobbie is being patriotic in trying to prevent a war because a rogue officer escalated the conflict to buy some weapon off the books.
You're right, fascist is a leap. The issue of who is being patriotic could be debated, depending on what is the best outcome for Mars, but that isn't the point. The point is that if the higher ups wanted to keep as much of the project as secret as possible (which, certainly appeared to be the case and is mostly consistent with their military posture) it is vitally important that they prevent Bobbie from getting away, even if it means they now have to explain to their own people why they have hurt and/or detained her (again, by lying, which they've already demonstrated willingness to do).
Prax to Amos, ".....you know a lot about how people die." What in the hell happened to that science ship at the end there?! I'm pumped for next season, might pick up the books in the interim.
I thought that was a great episode. Pretty curious to see what is going on with Venus and what happened to that crew.
On to season two. Really enjoyed he first season. Guessing this is filmed up here as many of the actors have been on other Canadian shows.
burned through season 1 and into season 2 in the past week or so. there's a fair amount of cheesy stuff that screams syfy channel but i can deal with it because i like the story a lot.
Fairly close. Leaves out a lot, changes up order of some events, but the main events are close to the book. The authors of the book are writers on the show.
If you really want to get into the weeds of this show, The Churn podcast is great. 2 hosts, 1 book reader, 1 not. Usually have a member or two of the cast on, as well of at least one of the writers. They discuss the previous week's episode. Dont talk about future book events or spoilers, but the authors talk about how they tweak things for the show and how they can explore different angles ect. Pretty interesting.
