100% agree. Even it comes at the expense of the other headliners (like the other two are not true headliners because all the money went to the big act)
They’re cheaper, they can turn over the stage quicker (there’s relatively no down time on the Edm stage between acts), and most being only 1-2 people they’re just smaller which means less people to deal with, smaller riders, less space in the artists areas, etc.
I am disappointed in the lack rock/hard rock. I tried listening to Bon iver today and didnt like it . Is he special live?
They played I think it was Sunday afternoon in 2012 on the main stage. I thought better live than album
We have similar taste in music. I was in the pit when they were here last. I left after 5 songs. So slow. So boring. I’m hoping they do something different or a different set list. Hell I might just go watch someone else.
That's two unique sets I'll most likely be missing. I started checking out Ron Gallo prior to the lineup. I enjoy this song But the rest of that album is okay and lyrically crazy. Almost like he sometimes tries to one up Jim Morrison on The End.
I’ve gone through the official Spotify playlist a couple times now and I remember Ron Gallo was one that caught my attention. I’ll do a proper listen of single albums soon.
It seems like Governor's Ball and Boston Calling RUSHED to get single day tickets out there. Maybe I'm wrong but thought it took like til March for them to confirm. You think that's what this is referencing? I imagine it's tough on the east coast - everyone has seen The Killers and Jack White and all those acts that cares about them over the last few years, and everyone has options among pretty much a generic platter everywhere. Only things really that will thrive I think are real destination/event stuff vs. generic city fests.
I would be at Mavis Staples (she was incredible live when I saw her ~8 years ago and I was blown away, not sure if the show is as good now), First Aid Kit, Old Crow, STS9, Sylvan Esso, Anderson Paak, Kaskade, and maybe Bon Iver. Not a bad day in my opinion.
Thursday - To be completely frank, I can't name one song from any act but Ron Gallo. When I went in 2011, I saw a number of acts on Thursday that I was excited about (Sleigh Bells, The Drums, Deerhunter, etc.). Not sure if Thursday just got a lot worse or what, but this doesn't excite me at all - D Friday - Muse / Sturgill / Paramore / Tash Sultana / Manchester Orchestra / Japanese Breakfast - B- Saturday: Eminem (for a bit) / Bon Iver (both sets) / Anderson Paak / Sylvan Esso / Chic (with Nile Rodgers) / First Aid Kit / Mavis Staples / Brockhampton / Moses Sumney / Pond / The Regrettes - B+ Sunday: The Killers / Future / Broken Social Scene / Jungle / Daniel Caesar / Thundercat / Gogo Penguin / Alex Lahey - C
That's probably where I will wind up already, but none would have me super pumped outside of OCMS. That's why it's meh. Why don't Yu come down and hang. Fuck work and school.

Did y'all ever get any clarity on what the two Bon Iver sets were? If not, I'd bet it's this. The Hollywood Bowl schedule got announced on Thursday (20k seat venue in LA) and one of the shows in August is a collaborative performance between Bon Iver and a dance company called TU Dance. It is labeled as the "West coast premiere" of this new collaboration, so I'd bet one of the sets at Bonnaroo is this, and one set is his normal 22, A Million set. https://www.hollywoodbowl.com/events/performances/391/ Artists Bon Iver TU Dance In the West Coast premiere of this unprecedented collaboration, Bon Iver and the electrifying contemporary dance company TU Dance come together with choreography by Uri Sands and new music by Justin Vernon. Bon Iver’s “rustic chamber pop with an experimental edge” (Pitchfork) and “hyper-modern balladeering” (The Guardian) has garnered Grammy® Awards and significant international acclaim, and Saint Paul, Minnesota’s nine-member TU Dance navigates complex themes of social change, drawing together modern dance and classical ballet with African-based and urban vernacular movements.
Looks like the Comedy Tent might be out. Comedians will be on stages/tents and in between acts. Trevor Noah and Amy Schumer are confirmed to be there. Take it with a grain of salt.
That would be a real bummer if "two unique sets" just means a normal set broken into two 45 minute halves with a break
Ya apparently they are doing like a "greatest hits/Emma" set and then his new stuff. Who knows by the time Roo comes around.
Ya no bueno and they are doing the sets between music acts. Sounds like the no more comedy tent rumor was true.
