Ive heard him on a few podcasts. He's an alt right apologist who is able to frame his argument in an eloquent way where if youre not listening you think he's making a good point.

It’s possible, but I’m not sure I’d agree on this one. I was listening to the JRE podcast from August, in it Peterson lays out his criticism of the alt-right as well as both identity politics as well as the inverse therof (as exhibited by the alt-right lunatics.)

If you boiled him down, best I can figure Peterson stands in opposition to the SJW movement and the furthering of division based upon cultural identifications.

these alt-right guys are slick. Part of their shtick is being critical of the alt-right. It's intended to throw people like you off their scent. But they can only hide their white nationalism for so long. Add him to the growing list of middle aged white guys who parrot the same anti-gay, anti-black, anti-left rhetoric. Ben Shapiro, Jonathan Haidt, Jordan Peterson, Bret Weinstien, David Duke. They are all the same.

any examples of this that you can share? I've listen to quite of few discussions with Petersen and have yet to hear him say anything negative about black people. can you provide just one source of that?

I dont think he's alt-right per se. I think he defends them for sport/to find a niche. However, in this day and age it's a difference without distinction.

I'm gonna level with you here.....my post was almost 100% TIC.

BUT what you will hear is that these guys are anti-black (and therefor racists, alt-right, Nazis, etc.) by not buying into the left wing "pro-black" rhetoric. For example, they might reject the idea of reparations, therefor they are racist. Every issue gets spun that way, if you don't 100% unequivocally agree with the solution to helping the minority group, then you are against that minority group. Do you have some hesitation with giving a 12 year old gender reassignment hormones? Well you are a closed-minded homophobic asshole. That's how Ben Shapiro, a yarmulke wearing jew, gets called an alt-right Nazi.

I think there are a couple branches on that tree. One, they share some ideas, in a round about way. Like the example above, neither Peterson nor the alt-right support the idea of reparations for blacks. See? They are similar. Right there, look how they both support anti-black ideas. Therefor, they are the same. Racists.

Two, I think fringe hate groups like the alt right will typically latch onto people they have vague similarities with, and throw support behind them. It's a way to glom onto someone credible in order to make their group seem more credible.

third, I think in general Peterson opposes a great deal of the far left ideology. I think he supports a fair amount of the more moderate left, but, while the moderate left might not share all of the far left's ideology, they certainly would lean that way as opposed to leaning right in any way. so when it comes time to pick sides, Democrats are going to see someone like Peterson as more of an enemy than an ally. Pair that with the above, and it's a short hop to: Jordan Peterson is alt-right.

Truthfully I don't think many of these guys even considers themselves conservative. I seem to recall Haidt saying he's never voted for a Republican for President. It's a little odd that he's not only painted as right-wing, but fringe, far-right.

If Peterson does defend the alt-right, I believe he's defending the idea, not the messenger. If that same idea came out of Elizabeth Warren's mouth, he'd defend it the same way. He seems to be able to separate the idea from the person espousing the idea, and understands that supporting an belief someone has is not tacit support of every single thing that person believes. Which seems frighteningly unique these days.

Peterson is definitely not alt-right. He is also extremely intelligent, but that doesn’t mean you have to agree with all his opinions. I think many of his criticisms of certain ways of thinking can easily be applied to people across political lines.

My biggest criticism of him is that, like many very smart and accomplished academics, he wants to be more famous and some of his actions come off as just attempts to gain more attention. Just being smart isn’t very interesting anymore and to stand out you have to make some “controversial” statements at times.

Vice tried really hard to make it seem that way the way it was edited. They later released the full interview although Peterson admits that particular point was a part of the interview where he was getting pretty worn out. He wasn't saying that at all, he was trying to make the point that women doing things to make themselves sexually attractive in the workplace needs to be part of the discussion, hoping that people would realize there are things we do implicitly and explicitly to make ourselves attractive to the opposite sex in the workplace and thats ok.

You can tell he's very worried about cracking under the pressure of all this attention and scrutiny. He's currently losing it on twitter and just dropped an F bomb.
