Teaching a bunch of bullied kids karate? What about “Cobra Kai shows no mercy” didn’t Johnny understand?
The original is probably the greatest movie ever so I hope they do it proud. Having Macchio and Zabka in it makes it worthwhile.
Every out of work actor from a big 80’s movie or tv show has gotta be loving this trend and praying for their turn.
Cobra Kai taught me a lot and I had a great streak of bullying until everyone went through puberty a full year before me.
I was coming to say Barney Stinson would be proud the real karate kid is getting a chance to teach the misguided youth of today.
Worked on this... Spoiler Doubled one of the high school bully kids. We filmed on Halloween and Macchio showed up that day dressed in the original Miyagi Do Karate gi and headband. Zabka was around the stunt team quite a bit, since we had to put together fight sequences (he is actually pretty strong in this department). After a long day of filming, he hung out and drank beers with us in the parking lot. Basically, Zabka and Macchio lived up to every ideal I placed on them (which was quite a bit, since I was an 80s kid, who watched the original several hundred times).
Yes. I hope Lawrence destroys him this time. Daniel was so obnoxious by KK3 I was rooting for Mike Barnes to obliterate him.
Just finished. Really enjoyed it. Can’t wait for season 2. Spoiler love that johnny’s side of the karate kid movie is almost word for word this.
Spoiler love the character development throughout. They took the time to develop pretty much every character so their progression as the story went on made sense. Also really like how they present both Johnny and Danny as flawed heroes where they can legitimately see the other as the villain in their story. Then teased a resolution to their fight pretty much the entire season only for outside circumstances to blow it all up every time. also liked how even though Johnny Lawrence is trying to be a better person and make Cobra Kai a respectable Dojo, the style and manner in which he teaches still breeds the same kind of douche bags he became.
More of Easter egg references but it mostly sticks with the first one. There are a bunch of flashbacks so you really don’t need to rewatch the original to get the story
Yup. Feels like it’s a mission to get people to watch the show. So many times I’m getting responses of “I don’t want my childhood ruined”
Solid first season. Surpassed all reasonable expectations. The development of the new characters and story while still paying a ton of homage to the original were executed perfectly. Gonna be a long wait for season 2. I'm hooked.
8 episodes in and has way surpassed any expectations as I was not even a Karate Kid fanboy. Definitely a bit teenagerish, but the story is fun and they did a good job of making the Wicked version of Karate Kid. I love the other perspective and Daniel really did do some dickish things in the movie, especially when you look at it from the other perspective. So much better than i could have ever imagined, and from YouTube yet.
I’ve been watching through my Amazon FireTV for the first two episodes and now it won’t allow me to watch any further without YouTube Red. Am I required to pay for this Red service to continue the series?
