Herrera claimed the Toronto cops were taking cheap shots at his players. Every other person anywhere close claim he’s full of shit (which he is) http://torontosun.com/sports/soccer...d-by-club-america-coach-during-halftime-melee
This ref is such a scared little bitch. Won’t call the hand ball. Won’t give out a second yellow to a player choking another player at mid field right in front of him.
Averaged over 20,000 per game last year and this year we’ll average over 25,000. Have over 18,000 season ticket holders. Team has been a huge success locally and has completely taken the city by storm in its 2+ years of existence. And the stadium location they just finally figured out is in the perfect location. Right next to/basically in the most popular urban neighborhood in the city which is walkable from downtown.
Rootgers So the ref who was 2 feet away and saw this didn’t do Shit but now it’s a 2 game suspension....
I haven’t been following it too close but it sounds like MLS wanted that stadium site, FCC said it wasn’t likely, MLS said “ok, were flying to Detroit this weekend”, FCC comes up with the site MLS wanted.
With FCC getting a spot it almost surely means MLS is planning on the Crew to move. Makes sense considering FCD and Houston draw such amazing crowds....
Wouldn't be surprised if Cincy joins MLS next season in 2019 to get it to even teams. They have the infrastructure to begin next season. By 2030, MLS should just go 36 teams. 18 in each conference, play each team in your conference twice for 34 games. Soccer is the one sport where mass expansion doesn't dilute the quality because it's truly a global talent pool to draw from. And it will be better for the USMNT with more clubs investing in youth development.
I knew walking out of the 2-1 loss to Mexico that I was walking out of the final USA vs Mexico in Columbus but with how bleak things looks with the Crew that’s probably the last really meaningful US game we host.
FCC wanted this stadium site the most it just required a lot of work and a lot of money. The place where they want to/will build their stadium is in a low income neighborhood and the land they need currently has a high school football stadium on it that is used by all the Cincinnati public schools. So they had to do a bunch of things to get the Cincinnati school board and Cincinnati city council to approve selling the land to them. Obviously they have to build them a new football stadium which will be moved across the street. They also had to buy other vacant land in the area as well and will be donating it so affordable housing can be built. They tried to get around paying full taxes that would go to the public schools but in the end are now paying them all. They’re also putting a cba in place with all kinds of other requirements like setting up programs for the neighborhood and public schools, using certain types of minority and women owned construction companies, hiring people from the neighborhood, etc. Tldr they ended up having to pay a lot of money on top of the actual cost of the stadium to be able to built it where they wanted. But everyone eventually came to an agreement and it will be great for the team, the city and the neighborhood.
SugarShaun do you think someone in Columbus would start a usl team? In now our third year it’s not bad quality of soccer and there are some good fanbases around our area in Louisville and Indy. I think crew fans would enjoy the more local nature of the league and the cheaper tickets. I would hate to see soccer just leave Columbus completely with all it’s history. Plus you’d get to play in the us open cup which they totally rig so you’d likely get matchups setup against FCC, Chicago and hopefully Austin.
I honestly don’t know. I hope so. Supposedly there are people willing to invest but that is to keep the club, don’t know if they would still do so for USL
