The best part is if that were an episode of Atlanta and Paperboi did the same thing and Ric Flair showed up in a suit we would all sigh about how hard they were trying and how unrealistic it is. Nope. It's just Atlanta.
Just watched tonight. Hilarious. Best characters this season have been guests. Alligator Man Tracy Bibby
who would've thought the show described by its creator as twin peaks but for rappers would be weird. FOH
woo boy smart to sprinkle the Sammy Sosa roast session in there to add some levity Shit man, prob wasn’t a good idea to watch this late night before bed
I don't think there's really all that much to understand tbh. It was just a wild story, with a crazy ass performance by Donald Glover. Entertaining stuff.
Glover is uncredited as Teddy. And it just dawned on me that Darius said "we don't use real names on the message boards" after Teddy said "was it my audio visual girl Sin?" At least it sounded like sin. That was great stuff.
I get people being upset by its weirdness but I also think that’s a great thing to have because every ep before it starts you have no idea what’s about to happen
yea that was weird but damn was it entertaining. it's insane how consistently entertaining this show is in seemingly different ways every week.
I loved the episode, Glover has no boundaries. I also can only imagine the amount of people who watched that stoned and the level of weirded out they must have been
just watched it again and holy shit it’s amazing. all the allusions they make are incredible. all the Stuart Woods novels where the villain’s name is teddy. the references to “get out.” plus it was so beautifully shot
That really was an impressive episode. Just so different and creepily entertaining. To think that Darius would be the straight man in that episode is perhaps the most subtly funny part.
Once I understood what the hell I was watching, that was an absolutely incredible episode of TV - really felt like the no commercials added to it - perfect ep to do it with. Kid can do no wrong, so so talented.
Actually I changed my mind. It was a fine episode, but van can’t carry an episode. Pop culture references were good, the bus driver had a good one liner, and Darius stole it again.
I'm really looking forward to this film. He's done a number of podcast interviews over the past two years. He was excellent in Short Term 12 & Crown Heights.
I feel bad for Alfred sometimes man. You can clearly tell he does not want to be known as Paper Boi. But that this is pretty much his only way of reaching the next level. I'm curious who sent him that "I love you" text. His mother? Also, that instagram girl pretty much played up every stereotype of why black dudes don't fuck with certain types of black girls anymore (Reminded me of the outburst by one of Vans friends at that airbnb party last episode) This is an explaination i found on reddit about the "In Loving Memory of Willow Dean Kearse"
I was 90% sure when his mom appeared at the beginning of the episode that it was a dream. what I wasn’t sure about was how real the man in the woods was
I don't think the old man was real. It was his conscience after being affected by what Siera was saying. The old man gave him an ultimatum: Either make a move and get out of these woods, or stay here with me and get robbed of everything. The last scene signals Al basically deciding that maybe he shouldn't keep it real anymore. Looking his absolute worse with a swollen face and bloody lips, he poses for pictures with a white kid, which pretty much personifies the audience of selling out. It'll be interesting to see what episode this is continued in, but it seems like Al is ready to sell out and follow Siera's advice, which may mean that Earn won't be his manager for much longer.
