i hated captain america. thought it was campy and corny af. i apparently am in the minority still light years better than iron man 2
I appreciated Cap1 more after I watched Avengers and other stuff with Cap in it. I thought it was solid the first time I saw it, but it's better now that you see what he's become in the modern world, IMO.
Started a rewatch last night with captain America, going to watch iron Man tonight, and maybe start the hulk. Will skip iron Man 3
checking out iron man 3 tonight i really liked thor. had seen avengers before but needed to rewatch. the battle in new york is so awesome
As someone who doesn't read the comic books and thinks Mandarin is an orange, Tobias probably won't be as perturbed by IM3 as most of you nerds.
The loss of a good Mandarin movie was unfortunate. The bigger issue with IM3 is the what ifs it left behind in not setting up other MCU stories.
In fairness, it was just dumb. There was zero reason to call Kingsley's character The Mandarin. They could have gone with some no name terrorist backed by Killian, and gotten the story across just fine. Instead, they made the audience think they were getting a grand villain, only for him to turn out to be a washed up actor, turned drunken soccer hooligan(and in the most DC thing the MCU has ever done, you had to watch a 10-minute followup video to really appreciate).
There's no reason to get into it again, but IM3 was the perfect opportunity to make AOU not rush the actual Ultron creation scene. It needed to be an enjoyable standalone, or a piece to the MCU, and it does neither well.
Also, the door is still open for the actual Mandarin to come back in the MCU. The Ten Rings is still an actual organization operating in the films outside of the actor in IM3 and was still operating in IM2 and Ant-Man.
my main problem with IM3 was at the end of the movie I wasn't sure what the point of any of it was. and it wasn't some fun ride along the way. it just felt pointless.
If that were the case, they should have kept alluding to it throughout the phases. I think they’ve missed their opportunity for an “aha” moment. It’d just be like “oh yeah, that guy” at this point. But he could’ve been a very interesting villain given the introduction of sorcery to the MCU.
It was stupid little things like, okay...you took the arc reactor out of your chest, soooo, now there's one in every suit? Am I to believe he didn't have that ability before, or he just liked having the electromagnet in his chest, even when it was killing him? Other than the ending scene where we get to see all of the suits, (and Pepper Potts at her hottest - some pun intended), the movie just doesn't really have any redeeming qualities.
I disagree. I found it very redeeming when they revealed Mandarin was a drunk actor and nerds everywhere were ripped into the astral plane as their souls left their bodies.
If I could believe this was an intentional "troll", you might have some merit. Unfortunately, I think it was just lazy, bad, movie-making.
I think it had more to do with them not having gotten to the point of introducing magic yet. Now that they've established the real Mandarin is out there somewhere and they've introduced magic, I wouldn't be surprised if he makes an appearance later.
And maybe he will, but having to retcon why a shitty writer used the name "The Manadarin" in IM3 is akin to the Fast and Furious series having to change the timeline of movies because Tokyo Drift killing Han was retarded. If Kingsley's character had been posing as the actual Mandarin, maybe this makes sense years down the road(with some convoluted motive that I can't even think of). But he wasn't. He was just supposed to be some run-of-the-mill terrorist, and they threw the name Mandarin on him for no apparent reason. I wasn't a big IM fan growing up. I know just enough of the Mandarin that if Kingsley's character was really going to be the Mandarin in the movie, it was a shitty portrayal of the character. The movie did nothing for the MCU, and it's pretty good bet that's why Black hasn't had his name attached to another MCU movie. Edit: It's not fair to call Black a shitty writer. He has a lot of great credits to his name in the action genre. But someone got their brain stuck on the Extremis storyline, and evidently that's who RDJ wanted to write it, so that's what happened. The movie was a giant missed opportunity.
