Have you used it for golf? I know they have the S60 but I’d like a more all-purpose watch that also has golf capabilities
True, this would just be added to the list of poor decisions you'd helped influence. Might go look at them this weekend.
Don't leave the store without it. Just get it in the same year as your child's birth year so they can grow up together, you can pass it along, and it perfectly justifies the long term investment.
A nice gift to give to your future Son-in-Law on their wedding day... and an excuse to Replace it with something else in the future.
I'm not a big watch guy. In fact I know nothing about watches. The nicest watch I've ever owned is a Seiko. But the Rolex Pepsi is calling my name. Idk why but I've always been enamoured by that watch. And now it's available in steel so I'm trying to come up with reasons to not buy it.
A decade plus knowing you has taught me that you can argue anything. The fact you can’t come up with a reason is telling.
I went to the store that carries Rolex today and learned that watches aren't like phones where Samsung announces today they are releasing a new phone and next week you can buy it. She said it would be later this year, maybe August, before its available? I'm going to call some out of state stores over the next few weeks to see if I can line one up. If I dont do it now something else will come up and I'll never do it. Anyone here have a guy?
Yeah, that was just announced at Basel this year. August is a decent release, actually. I'm not sure if there is a waitlist for that one or not. When the Heuer 01 was announced at Basel in 2015, I wanted to get it as soon as possible since I knew my guy would be the brand ambassador for that model. Ended up finally getting one in NYC just after Christmas.
My wife’s watch was a 2016 Basel release. I got one of the first few in the US & it didn’t arrive until May of 2017.
Yea I'm completely ignorant about watches. Had no idea that's how it worked. That's the only watch I'd spend good money on. I wish I could just pay now and get it later but she looked at me funny when I said that.
dblplay1212 I used to work with this guys wife. I don't know him really at all but he sells high end watches at traditional jewelers in Newport Beach, CA. His email is in his IG profile.
Just saw your DM dblplay1212. You’re right when Rolex releases their new product it can be very hard to obtain. They are insane with their product control. Where did you go look? Underwood’s?
I don't like the jubilee bracelet. Returned the watch I bought Ms. Cotton to jomashop for Christmas after she changed her mind and wanted an apple watch. Too late for a return so used the credit for the pepsi seiko. Really enjoying it. Used the bezel on the boat this week to time rotations while fishing for redfish.
A buddy of mine from my college days started this company. Have been thinking of buying a watch of his for awhile but know nothing of watches/value. Would any of you watch affecienados care to look at his website and give me some feedback? https://ravenwatches.com
Looks like it has a ETA 2824 movement, which is durable and mass-produced. Nothing special, not a great power reserve or any impressive components, but it's still better than a quartz, which you would find in fashion watches of a comparable price. I think at $650 that's reasonable, and I'd buy one of the leather straps or a nato strap and wear it casually.
Honestly I'm not a fan of the jubilee either but that's all the steel comes with and the white gold one is 3x the cost. Jorts said I could maybe buy a replacement oyster steel band and swap it.
In that $500-1500 range there are a lot of popular but cheap fashion watches. They're not bad watches (I have some, Shinola, for example) at all, it's just that they're pretty overpriced for what you get. You're getting a quartz (battery) and paying for a name. Your buddy's watches have a bit more to it. An automatic is a watch that you'll wind and set (mechanical v. quartz/battery) but it also self-winds, so as you move throughout the day, your watch winds the mainspring. The particular movement used in his watches is a low-cost, mass-produced movement, but it's not really a bad quality piece. For $650, a classy automatic watch that can be worn with a bracelet or strap and has some personal connection (made by a friend's startup) is a pretty solid bargain IMO.
I'm firmly in the camp that says seiko's are the best value in automatics at any pricepoint. That said, I'm down to Explorer II or Omega Seamaster 300 for my wedding present.
I’ve got a couple decent watches (Tissot, Tag) but they are all quartz. I realize this isn’t the most impressive, but I’m really drawn to this one. https://www.jomashop.com/seiko-watch-srpa97.html
They are not only a top Rolex store, but Clayton the owner is BFF's with the president of Rolex US. If they can't get it yet, I would bet nobody can. The other place I would try and call would be Brown and Company in Atlanta.
I have the Deep Sea and I love it. I think I posted pics in this thread of her. She is glorious. I think it goes without saying but save the box and everything, if you ever sell it, having all the original stuff raises the price.
I love them. The Garmin vivo active is my work one and the Garmin approach S 20 is my Golf one. Id prObably get another but not much point with my Apple Watch...maybe a forerunner. I used my vivoactive for golf last year before getting the approach. It’s a great watch for golf...small issue though is you can run the risk of a text or call going off in your backswing.
My dad has an Omega from Vietnam and my brother and I may end up fighting over it if he gives it to one of us.
Fan of this watch — any advice on what color of outfit to wear this watch with? https://www.mvmtwatches.com/collections/all-mens-watches/products/modern-sport-bronze-age
When’s your date? (We’re doing February.) I’d totally be down to coat-tail on your leg work and buy one also when you decide. I may even give you your AR wrench back. May.
Anyone have an opinion on which of these will be a better long-term piece, Seiko SKX009KD or SNZF15? Edit - I literally know nothing about watches other than having received a Tag as a sales award and liking it purely based on aesthetics... same with the Pepsi look
Can you afford slightly more? The Seiko Prospex is a better quality watch & only $100 or so more. Better yet... dblplay1212 can sell you his, at a discount, when he buys the Pepsi Rolex
