I'm curious on what I may have missed out on with previous consoles, or, more importantly what I'm missing out on right now. For me, these 3 titles come to mind immediately: North and South (NES) Legends of the Diamond (NES) Rock'n Roll Racing (SNES) Gigantic (XB1)
There’s a guy who makes really cool side scroller hand drawn games out of ska studios. They usually have some neat rpg elements and a metroidvania feel. My favorites are Salt and Sanctuary and Dishwasher the Dead Samurai.
Both definitely work. Obscure might not be the right word for the subject title. All I meant was games you played that others may of not heard of and/or played. You mentioned Darwin Project in the XBox thread a few weeks ago. No one on my friends list has it or has played it, so that is a perfect example of what I meant. And what's the deal with all of the 2 bit games on Xbox lately? It seems like every indie developer is creating NES looking games. I tried to look up a list of "best Xbox games missed in 2017" and most of the list was simple game modes (puzzles) or 2 bit NES graphics. Maybe there just weren't that many games created in 2017, idk.
I don't care if they are XBox exclusive at all. It seems to me that most games are on all major platforms, so that's not too much of an issue. Also, when I look through this list, I realize that I've never even heard or seen anyone play 90% of them, surely there are some worth checking out. I probably still need to check out Tacoma as well.
Also, let me reiterate how annoyed I get seeing 2-bit, bullshit NES graphics on games made for a fucking XBox One and/or Playstation. I refuse to play them, as they come off as either A) hipster pretentious or B) a ruse to save loads of money while trying to play on folks' old school console nostalgia. On top of that, they get a pass when being reviewed because expectations are so wildly low going into them. Nothing annoys me more than seeing a 2-bit POS game get a high rating in 2018 -- out of 10, they should have a cap of 3. Honestly, how the fuck is Kingdom Come: Deliverance rated the same as Kingdom New Lands? Both may be fun to play, but Kingdom New Lands has a very low ceiling this day in age, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a great game by almost all accounts I've seen.
haven't really played a ton of 'obscure' games. life is strange is one that i really like and have a hard time recommending to people because it's hard to explain how a game with so little actual gameplay can be so engrossing. either you're invested in the story and characters and it's great, or you're not and it's a total bore. same goes for any telltale game. tales from the borderlands is really good imo.
Anything by KOEI in the SNES/Genesis era. Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Uncharted Waters, Aerobiz and Liberty or Death were all top tier turn-based strategy games.
Shadows of the Damned -360 Threads of Fate- PS1 A Bard's Tale-PS2 Giants: Citizen Kabuto- PS2 I could go all day on this thread
Have not played, but found these on a similar reddit thread: Shadow Warrior 2 (8.6 per IGN) Oceanhorn (8.5 per Gamestorq, no IGN review found, but both reviews I did see on YouTube were strong)
Haven't played it yet... I would probably like it. That said, I don't love puzzle games, as I think their entertainment value has a low ceiling. Limbo and Inside were indeed great, but it took my internet being down to force myself to play and/or finish both.
The first Hotline Miami is really really good and it's cheap. Top down shooter that turns into a puzzle when it comes to memorizing enemy and weapon placements to avoid the one-hit deaths. I have dozens of hours into Kerbal Space Program and the closest I've come to an actual Mun landing is several high-speed surface impacts.
Super Mega Baseball is fun as hell btw... It's on XBox Gamepass. Think I'm going to get Mad Max as well, and maybe Tomb Raider since Taco Sa1ad and a few others all said it was a lot of fun.
It's free if you have playstation. Graphics are good and the cut scenes are nice, but it doesn't really draw me in.
I didn’t make it past about the 5 hour mark. It felt like I’d played it in some semblance several times before. It’s well-made and decently fun though.
I DL Super Mega Baseball Extra Innings last week, enjoyed it, and thought that was that...then today I learn that Super Mega Baseball 2 is on Gold, and my life has never been better.
Was just coming to post Salt and Sanctuary, I just picked it up a week or so ago, played a bunch this weekend, its actually fantastic. I've gone through two or three of the areas so still really early but its addicting as hell.
Yeah it’s an awesome game. The guy who made it actually won a contest on Xbox 360 back with they released their game editor software. Microsoft funded the dishwasher game and he’s found himself a nice little niche since then. The souls influence in Salt and Sanctuary is really cool and flows well with his style
Syphon Filter back on PlayStation was so sick Doom for PS4 was pretty amazing. All the Wolfenstein games look really fun too I wish the Dead Space series would get remastered
You could run entire missions with the strongest taser just setting people on fire in SF. I would love a remaster of SF and Fear Effect
Krazy Ivan -PS1 crazy Russian mech game RoboPit- PS1 customizable Robot fighter Gladius- Xbox, ps2,and gamecube
Splinter Cell Blacklist on 360 was pretty amazing wish they would carry that over to the next generation consoles
Theres no appropriate thread for this Did you guys know that Jade Empire was not a prequel to Beyond Good and Evil? Bc I didn't.
If a tree gets mined down in Fortnite and no one is around, does it make a sound? If your sound is muted?
Did it? It seemed crazy niche to me. Like, "you'll like this game if and only if you like metal" almost.
I think the fact it had Jack Black in it and was a double fine game outweighed any “niche” it had at the time.
