Meru has been mentioned a number of times. I was amazed though that they straight put up camp hanging from the side of mountain. And that smoking is a good thing for extreme climbers because they can assimilate to extreme altitudes easier bc their bodies are accustomed to dealing with less oxygen.

There have been so few films that display in full context the suffering and willpower that goes into these high altitude first ascents. JC's ability to lead the climbs and capture it perfectly on film make him a national treasure, in my opinion

Agreed. Meru is one of my favorites. That and Magnus come to mind immediately. The one yesterday was great as well, but Meru and Magnus stand out among all the loads of docs I watch.

He was hunting in Montana on public land and walked upon a large metal barrel sticking out of the ground. He walked up to it and saw a dead bear inside the barrel. He decided to cut the bears claws off and grabbed his knife. When the knife got close enough, he was electrocuted.

Turns out the barrel was a large junction box that hadn’t been maintained and he should have died.

There’s also a Steve Rinela podcast about the incident that’s pretty good

Watched Neat this weekend and it was awesome. If you like bourbon, and even if you don't, I'd recommend it.

Through all but the last episode of Wild Wild Country on Netflix. That shit is wild and I had no idea about it. Guess I must be too young by about a decade.

Saw Andre the Giant on HBO tonight, thought it was really good. It's a lot of stories and perspectives that I've seen/heard over the years condensed, but still good quality.

Super rough place man. I really enjoyed the series but it did make me feel terrible for the people that live there. The level of desperation where you are giving randos guns and letting them play cop is pretty scary

Thought The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling on HBO was excellent. It's two parts and over 4 hours long so it's comprehensive. You don't have to be that familiar with Garry to enjoy it imo.

Bill Burr and Joe Rogan have both mentioned having to pause that documentary because things hit so close to home and then needed time to reflect. That and they’re still seeing new layers to his genius after his death. I need to sit down and watch it, because it sounds really excellent.

I watched Magic Bullet today on Netflix. It's about the Keto diet and the theory that carbs are fucking humans up. Interesting shit. Seemed like propaganda but I fact checked some of it and it seems to check out.

Almost done with it, last episode tonight. Very good, the only thing that annoyed me was how they picture her and bill as very intelligent. She was probably very smart before but something went off, she’s a complete idiot and some people were very stupid during that process.

Finished it last night and I agree. It's as if the filmmaker accepted their self-serving statements that they were intelligent as fact, and the movie just ran with it. The videos of the lady being interviewed are almost hard to watch, as there is something very clearly wrong with her and she's just spouting off falsehoods. Reminded me a lot of Trump, actually.

I watched “The Rachel Divide” on Netflix last night. While I do think she is completely out of her mind for making people believe that she was black. I’m not too surprised that she wanted a different identity considering her upbringing. Her youngest son seems to have a good head on his shoulders and understands that his mother isn’t telling the truth all the time.

Agree it was one of the best documentaries I’ve ever seen. When we left the theater my date and I were speechless. Walking home she says “I don’t even think I can have a conversation right now sorry. That was a lot”

Caught the adopted sister thing when they said it early in the film and told her I thought it was some weird social experiment based on class before we went in - just a hunch. The picking parents and mental illness and the fact that there’s still people out there part of an experiment that’s not even being monitored anymore / how many kids they did it to :ohshit:

Is it supposed to be obvious irony that the guy running a twisted fucking social experiment was an Austrian Holocaust survivor?
