Well apparently you don't know any professional athletes. Everyone I know that plays professionally and makes over 5 million a year says you are fucking retarded. They have that edge you just can't understand.
“Good” money to who? Maybe he wants a big nest egg to invest. Maybe he wants to blow it on Ferrari’s and hookers. Who cares. If this was Fred moving companies to get a 15% raise, no one batts an eye.
Being a professional athlete is nothing like Fred getting a 15% raise changing jobs. The guy went from the star of a top 10 team in England to the bench guy for the champions. He sold out. It’s unfortunate as he was fun to watch.
He moved from a non-European team to a team that’s going to be in the last 16 of the CL moving forward. It’s not like he moved to fucking Palace for gobs of money. (lol)
Ned I do like you so I am going to be honest here. You are Ark/Dbl right now. It's your call if you want to continue traveling down that road. And if anyone wants to call me out and tell me I am wrong I am willing to accept that fate.
Seriously though, if you make $1mil at a firm and a rival firm offers you $1.15mil and all you have to do is switch from the team wearing blue to the team wearing a different shade of blue, are you telling me you wouldn’t do that?
And he’s not going to play week in week out. That’s my point....he sold out for money. It’s disappinting that a good player decided to go that route. That’s my entire point. Yet some of you seem to be only about the cash, which is fine, that’s your guys poragative I apologize for sharing an opinion and having a discussion everyone.
If this is my personal life and another job offers me more money, yea I’m in. But I’m also not the star/face of an professional sports team, with immense popularity at my current job. And if I was, I’d rather actually play the sport I’m a professional at than sit on the bench for an extra 150k
I was just giving my opinion about being upset that Mahrez went down the money chaser route. I understand my view may not be widely agreed, and that’s fine. I don’t think it’s fair to lump me in with those two, though. That’s harsh.
The problem with this criticism is it assumes Mahrez is just content with bench life. What if he sees this as a huge challenge that he feels he's earned (with no financial downside of course)?
I simply don’t understand the extend of Ocho’s tantrum for that fact. Who says he’s going to sit on the bench at City? I find it very believable he could be the #1 RW for City even if I find the buy to be unnecessary.
I’d say maybe they try to play him more centrally as an eventual David Silva replacement but then you’ve got KDB/Silva/Gündogan and possibly Jorginho for those spots. Delph possibly a factor as well after the season he had Edit: Talking about Bernardo not Mahrez
% BBC is still intact in Madrid for the coming campaign? If they leave where are they? Zidane sit out this year seems obvious? Where is he for 19/20? France? Replace Mourinho?
France at some point, probably when Mbappe is the best player in the world and France has the best team and he continues his immortality.
Elite players regularly take pay cuts to play on better teams, I don’t understand why we should be upset about a guy taking a raise to play on one
If he was joining the elite team to be a sure fire starter like he was for the previous team, I agree 100%
He won’t but he would be selling out for the money. I’m sure making it to all those European finals with Atletico has been tough...
I mean it may. But the guy is playing in a top 5-8 club in the world, winning trophies, making a lot of money, and is going to go to one do their biggest rivals for a bigger paycheck. It’s not much different than Durant going to Golden State
And I guess I think if it was such a big goal for him, he could have made the move before and not right after leading your team to a European trophy.
I don't think it's fair to speculate and form judgement based on something that is strictly your opinion.
According to the club coefficients Atletico is the second best club in the world. Hate to see someone downgrade for purely financial reasons but here we are. Ned is right on the money here.
Guy clearly lacks he mental toughness and fight needed to be a champion. Should fit it seamlessly at Barca.
Yea it’s possible. But all factors considered, it has the optics(to me) of a straight money move. And part of me thinks you’d agree if it didn’t involve barca
How many players would be sure fire starters on elite teams? Gareth Bale hasn't even been a sure fire starter for Madrid. Are we going to criticize everyone who's not Messi or Ronaldo for joining a bigger club? There's always risk involved with moving to a bigger club. Players take it for the prestige and opportunity to be one of the world's elite playing on the biggest stage.
I get that, but in the two cases I’ve debated/discussed, the player making the move was/is the clear starter. And are we really going to try and say Barca is a bigger club than Atletico? More history, yes. But they’re both top 5 worldwide clubs Mahrez I can understand the move to City. I will never understand Griezman going to Barca if it happens.
Ok and that’s fine. But the difference isn’t much of one, and regardless I’ll never understand Griezman going to Barca to be Messi’s sidekick.
