* J Y * the Houston Open lives on thanks to the Astros Foundation. Moving to the fall which sucks for the field but is better than a summer tournament in Houston. I saw that it's staying at GC of Houston though
Yea Crane basically decided he would step up to keep it around. Heard he’s still interested in having it at memorial in the future though.
4 at Creeks Bend. Funny I grew up playing at Valleybrook across the road in the early 90s and have probably played CB maybe 5-6 times.
I do sometimes wonder how many phone calls it would take to get me on there. I had an invite once but left the job 2 weeks before they opened.
I've only played it a handful of times as well and they've all been within the last 4ish months. Congrats on the ace
Jeff Hall, the USGA setup guy, did an interview on Fore Play this week. Great listen. It sounds like it’s going to be nasty.
They can’t roll the greens past 11.5 without balls getting blown around by the wind. The fairways are also going to be stupid wide. I don’t understand the projections that the winner will be around par. This isn’t the Shinnecock of old with 26 yard wide fairways and greens that literally can’t accept a golf ball.
Soft spikes are the way to go. Wouldn't recommend metal spikes to anyone. But having no spikes is awful.
I haven't worn shoes with "spikes" in 4-5 years and haven't had any issues with footing. Spikeless is the way to go
I don’t understand the widening of the fairways but I enjoy seeing these guys suffer a few times a year.
I feel like Fleetwood's game is perfect for a US Open but don't know what kind of form he's coming in with. Fowler is the answer until he wins a major imo
Wouldn’t shock me if Shinnecock members agreed to host again but only if their golf course wasn’t turned into a carnival again.
In other news, Jimmy Dunne popping up again. Awesome feature on him by Golf Channel... https://www.golfchannel.com/video/how-golf-saved-life-jimmy-dunne/ He was playing a foursome with Phil, Rickie, and Tom Brady yesterday at Friars Head.
Got talked into a pool for this weekend. I don't really understand the rules but apparently I get to pick any 4 players and have to have them in my Top 4 order. I hadn't done any research on the tournament so at least I know how some of my afternoon will now be spent.
I need to stay in Top 10 in my season long one and done pool. Still have DJ, Stenson, Mickelson, Thomas, Spieth unused. Do you just go with DJ like everyone else? Risky not to pick him unless someone has a good reason not to. He's paired with Tiger...
Apparently, it’s an homage to the architect, who designed the course with difficult angles in mind (or something like that).
They felt like players would take driver out of the bag too much if they tightened the fairways up. Who wants to see DJ and Rory hitting 3 wood and driving iron all week on the Par 4s?
Its going to be like last year tomorrow if that rain really comes through. My hope is they will cut and roll the greens aggressively on the weekend and the wind starts blowing and we get plenty of run out on the fairways.
I don’t know how much rain they’ve actually gotten. According to my app, it’s like .1” I bet it dries up fine.
The course is also designed to drain and firm up very quickly. Early tee times may have a small advantage tomorrow but I doubt it makes a huge difference
I hope it doesn't play a factor. I like the course setup plan I've heard so far. This course was designed to award accuracy off the tee and ball striking from the fairway. With today's tech they have to find a way to encourage driver when Rory is hitting his 3W 290.
