No, SPLC didn’t list him for belonging to Hizb it-Tahrir (radical Islamist group), it listed him as being an anti-Muslim hatemonger.
So Howard Bloom is a crazy person. I realize he has to fill that guest seat, but these are the kind of interviews that have killed the show for me. The incoherent ramblings, embellishments, rationalizations and justifications of a crazy person with a made up disease.
Yep. I only watch the ones with people I know of. Everything else is pretty much shit. Theo, Big John and Aerosmith was awesome last week though. Where the fuck has Joey Diaz been?
Peter Attia was really interesting actually. That dude was crazy smart. Joe has dudes on who are doctors but are pretty quackish sometimes but this dude was smart as shit. Would recommend it. Mathew Walker was really really good too.
I’ll have to go back then. I just don’t want to waste my time for 30 minutes an hour listening only to find out this person is some psychopath with a PhD.
How frustrating is it to get more than a half hour into a pod only to realize the person is insane and you just wasted your time?
Oh my god, it’s honeslty one of the most infuriating things a man can experience. I’m now more heavily into The Fighter and The Kid, Below The Belt podcast, Theo’s is solid and Marc Marin’s as well. The one with Josh Brolin talking about all of his issues was legit.
Needs to have Shane Smith from Vice on again. I find some of his political ones not bad, typically if it is with a decent journalist/reporter. It took a lot of willpower to get through the one with Colion Noir of the NRA though, like a lot. I did it just to say I tried to understand the other side and felt like I lost a chromosome after it
Its really easy for me to not take Rogan too seriously because I don't care for him that much. I remember a bunch of people doing shots with him in downtown austin in college and thinking who gives a shit about the fear factor guy. I've only listened to a few of his podcasts but I think he's just a straightforward thinker with a high level of openness to ideas. He's super impressionable but he also possesses what seems like a remarkable level of discipline in his application of ideas that interest him. That makes for good content because he can start something and keep it up long enough to talk about the results. But he would be an easy guy to trick into believing something ridiculous. Which isnt that big of a knock on him because most people are that impressionable, im an enthusiastic guy and I like to try new things and Im always trying to keep my guard up for that reason.
So he’s just an open guy who is willing to listen and try anything. It’s admirable imo and another redeeming quality that he doesn’t take himself too seriously
I caught a youtube clip with the Hitler guy saying that Hitler made it to South America. Rogan was stunned and seemingly believed him completely. Then I see this. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/05/19/hitler-definitely-died-1945-according-new-study-teeth/ the youtube comment sections of his videos are wild/crazy/scary. Thought his podcast was lighthearted, not a breeding ground for Seth Rich and Hitler conspiracy theories.
Yes and that’s why he has had such success. He’s willing to learn every day. But he also has a podcast to fill and he has to keep it interesting. And he’s a humble dude, he’s not trying to be the smartest guy in the room.
This is the thing that confuses me about Joe on his podcast. I listened to him dismantle an argument made by Steven Tyler on the premise that 1M ppl lived on earth before the ice age and that the people lived underground during this period of time. Tyler also mentioned a number of US military figures who have said they have seen UFOs/Aliens. Joe went on a long rant about a number of these guys say crazy shit because it gets them a book tour and/or a tv show on The History Channel. Now lets visit his Tim Kennedy interview. Joe lets Kennedy get on his soapbox and spew some rather insane conspiracy theories on Nazi's, S.America, waterboarding etc. Sometimes I wish he would have the same energy as his guest. Tim Kennedy is clearly the type of dude that likes to exaggerate his stories if you let him. The entire time I was waiting for Jamie to jump in and actually ask him some questions.
Yeah, had to shut the Kennedy interview off. The thing is, if Joe is your friend, he doesn't really challenge you and sometimes his political leanings come into play. I started cringing when he started to to tell others about the Seth Rich stuff, then waiting for him to say his trademark "that's just bullshit" but he never did. He told that Seth Rich story to more than a few guests but he knows deep down he can't tell that story to anyone with half a brain because they will call him on it. Christ, Joe admitted he wanted to believe the moon landing conspiracy and when it all comes down to it, he's really susceptible to confirmation bias. I have little interest in the MMA guys because most of them are complete idiots. I take it for what it is, sometimes he has some interesting guests on and sometimes he has some dumbasses on.
Made it about 45 minutes into the Howard Bloom episode. I cannot fathom why Joe would let that guy say all that utter bullshit without once challenging him. That guy is so transparently full of shit it is almost impressive
Finished the Big John McCarthy episode last night. Solid stuff, surprised it took Joe this long to have him on.
pretty sure there was some sort of conflict of interest type shit with him being a ref and joe being a commentator once he joined the bellator broadcast it was fair game
Yeah just finished Living with a SEAL, he seems like a maniac. Everytime he runs an ultra he breaks the metatarsal bones in his feet. Attia's stories about Lance and Phelps lactic threshold is insane. Matthew Walkers book is awesome btw.
Thought the stuff on the nazis in south America was interesting. Had no idea the amount that actually made it over from Germany I’ll take a look at his new show “Hard to Kill” when it debuts
From the world renowned food and ag author? Yeah I was. Didn't realize he had a new book about psychedelics though.
I think his numbers are fullof shit on the number of German's that ended up in S.America. Also, his whole story about high-level Nazis committing hate crimes in America seems a bit far fetched. I get that he has a tv show on History Channel to promote. But at some level he could have been more grounded with his claims. His talk about waterboarding made me go back and read Christopher Hitchens article on the issue (Hitchens had someone waterboard him). They have vastly different opinions on the issue.
Pollan looks like it’s only about an hour and a half which flies by for me at work I’ll give it a listen and if I’m interested I may buy his new book
I'm almost all the way through the George St Pierre interview. I think it is one of his better interviews with a fighter. Plus GSP seems like a really grounded, good dude.
Just finished the Candace Owens interview. Joe was VERY easy on her. I'm pretty sure she used the word "like" over 500 times during this two and half hour interview.
Just finished myself, I liked the first half but than she got a little tiring at the end. She had a hard time listening, and she just wanted to talk talk talk. I liked a her story and some of her view points, but an hour was about my tolerance. Woman gravitate towards the word "like". My fiance says it too much as well, I may have to bring it to her attention. I also don't think it is indicative of your intelligence either, many bright woman over use the word unfortunately.
I'm not a huge fan of hers and I view her "I changed from being a liberal overnight" to be a con job (She literally said why she is doing what she does: "I was over $100k in student debt". She needed a job and realized she could make money spouting conservative talking points.). If you actually think shes being legitimate in her views you are way to deep into this superficial free speech debate and just want to hear your own opinions repeated by a new token minority. While complaining that the left/globalist is too far into identity politics. I laughed at the end when Joe pressed her on climate change and wanted her to admit that she knows nothing about the issue. She's very used to being the center of attention in large groups and being able to talk extremely fast without actually having a conversation (The Kanye West TMZ interview is a perfect example of this. You can hear her complaining in the background about not being interviewed). Joe was pretty easy on her until the climate change segment. Candace went on the Rubin Report last year with Blair White and got extremely defensive about her doxxing program that failed.
I finished the Donnie Vincent episode this morning. I thought it was very good. If you aren't int the hunting podcasts he does then probably one to skip.
God I miss Hitch. In those hypothetical dinner party conversations, hitch is always one of my guests.
Rogan always ragging about factory farming irritates the shit out of me. Especially as it relates to beef cattle (which he's usually referencing). He's basically absolutely wrong on how most cattle are raised. I'm very very familiar with cattle operations in 3 of the top 5 beef producing counties in the country and they're almost entirely comprised of family operations on large swaths of pasture land. In 2012, the USDA estimated that 91% of beef cattle operations were family or individually owned. It's...it's annoyingly incorrect.
I wish Hitchens was alive to do an interview with JRE. Especially after listening to that clusterfuck of a sitdown with Dave "Let me mention Jordan Peterson 500 times" Rubin.
I'm half way through that one now, and he's only mentioned Peterson 2 or 3 times. Does it get worse in the 2nd half?? I think they hit on some pretty good points so far. I think it's interesting that there is this group of people who are former liberals, who are now sort of in a semi-conservative no-man's land where they don't agree with Republicans, and no longer agree with Democrats, and are laying out the issues they have with both sides. And if either side had enough intelligence to just listen to what they have to say, they'd start winning elections in landslides. But it's far easier, and apparently more appealing to just call these guys nazis and move on. Well...as I type that, I am thinking that's probably not right. if you don't placate the "get your hate speech off my campus" left, you are going to turn them against you, and be roundly thrown into the "alt-right" group (like Rubin and Rogan and Shapiro, etc.). So it's more delicate than I am making it out to be I suppose.
He white knights for Jordan Peterson a bit too much for my taste. Do I think he's being attacked by some people? Sure. But let's not make this dude out to be some unicorn. I'll start by saying that I find is laughable that Candace Owens & Charlie Kirk ditched Dave Rubin for the TMZ/Kanye West interview. They left their own event (TPUSA) to be on TV and made him do it on his own. I'm also not the biggest fan of Dave Rubin after learning a bit more about his past and why he's become this overnight voice for free thinking and free speech. The two of them (Owens & Rubin) are being funded by Charlie Kirk (Turning Point USA) ,The Koch Brothers (Learn Liberty) & The Wilks Brothers (PragerU) (Check out his own subreddit ) Dave makes a pretty decent host when he's interviewing other smart people. But he gets flustered and says rather dumb shit when he's the guest or speaker. His whole rant about USPS was utterly ridiculous, he knows absolutely nothing on building regulations & he couldn't remember when Barack Obama was senator or president. I think the funniest part of the interview was: Dave Rubin on Candance Owens: "I think she could run for Senate." Joe after hearing this: "Are you high?"
