When they set up a course like Shinny, how they did today combined with the wind they had, the margin for error is so small. i don't get why people don't understand that. The "just retire" folks need to
I had an incredible time. I’ll give a full recap later, but it’s an awesome place. Tiger about to 4 putt.
Rory has won this year - 80 J Day has won this year - 79 Phil has won this year - 77 Bubba has won this year - 77 Wise has won this year - 77 Woodland has won this year - 79 kodaria has won this year - 81 Golf is really fucking hard.
I followed Theo Humphrey for a while today. He almost hit me with a drive and then about lost it on a rules official who tried to make him drop on the wrong side of a structure.
Theo arguing with the rules official: Love the cut of that guy’s jib. He’s going to be a blast to watch on the tour. He ended up fading the fuck out of that back to the hole and sticking it center green. Walking off, he said to his caddie: “that motherfucker was trying to make me drop on the other side.” Just full of spite.
Going to top golf for the first time finally. Do people use their own clubs, or do you just look like “that guy”.
I forgot to share some pics from Ohio this week. Ended up playing two top 100s, Scioto which I’ve played a lot and The Golf Club which was my first time playing.
Played yesterday and shot a 48 with 2 birdies on 9. Played a different local course today with a 51/49 for an even 100. The good shots are really good. I still need better consistency (like anybody working on their game I guess). Had a 5 hole stretch where I went only +2.
Scioto is probably my favorite course. I’m a little biased because I worked there in college but I am sucker for the old Donald Ross courses. The Golf Club is really cool. 150 members, no women, have to be with a member to be on property. 1967 Pete Dye on a bunch of land. If you aren’t already a member at multiple clubs in town you don’t get an invite to join there. Also the first tee tips, the practice putting green and the 18th green were all on the same surface. Green was prob 75 yards deep.
I’ve loved old D Ross courses since playing idle hour in Lexington. They just renovated one in San Antonio that looks extremely promising. Course is still coming in but the greens are already great and they didn’t mess with the originals.
Torn because people did bring their own clubs and I thought they looked kind of dumb, but after I walked in and got going I realized this was the case and wished I had them. Best way to go is bring your own clubs but don't wear golf shoes and dress like you're about to play 18. Playing with your own clubs will make it more enjoyable.
I think you're missing the point. The clubs they provide there are extremely shitty. It's just more fun to not have to play around the shittiness of them. It's not about taking it too seriously.
I think worrying about playing around the shittiness of the clubs is taking it too seriously, but to each his own.
ya im not that great at golf (10 handy) but taking it serious at topgolf when you're with a group of people who don't give a shit or just going for a good time (drunk)? Nah, team don't take your clubs
Do people take their own putter to a putt-putt course? I guess if you are treating top golf like a range sesssion (off mats, three stories up, onto neon lighted turf) you should take your own clubs, but that kinda makes you that guy.
shitty in what way? You realize the golf ball is “shitty” too, right? I just have never picked up a modern golf iron that I deemed unhittable because it was so “shitty”. I kill it at top golf with their shitty equipment
if youre left handed and all top golf has are right handed clubs, you still dont bring your own. its not that kind of place. go have a few beers with your friends and go to the course the next day.
Every time I’ve used top golfs clubs I dink it at the course the next time I play. I guess I’m in the minority though.
The other thing is if you’re trying to work on your game or hit “shots” you are not getting accurate feedback due to the golf ball and the mats. Pretty sure the balls have a chip in them too. No matter what you hit it with, it’s not going to be good practice
In an effort to change the topic, I had an unexpected Twitter interaction last night. Those of you that are NLU fans should also be familiar with Zac Blair and The Buck Club. He posted this pic of some custom TBC tees he had made (the TBC logo is on the top of the tee where the ball sits) and I replied asking if they'd be available next time he has a TBC hat/polo pop up sale. He sent me a DM and now I have a bag of them on the way. I think I may be getting too deep in the golf underground
Do the guys that take their clubs to top golf put them in the trunk or back seat of the Uber as you ride shotgun like psychopaths?
