I was getting some overuse pain in my right pinky digit and left wrist using an interlocking grip so I switched to a baseball grip on a whim last week. My ball striking has never been more solid & consistent. I’m drawing the ball regularly whereas I was cutting across the ball and hitting bitch slices. I doubt I’ll go back to the interlocking. Also, a hell of a lot straighter and longer off the tee. Just more comfortable in general. I’m all over the place in this video (is outside on the take away and -inside at the top correct?) but manage to get it back on plane and hit it pretty square at contact. My swing thought is letting the club head fall back at the top to help drop it inside. I think Rickie’s swing is a good example of what I’m trying to articulate. The way I see Rickie’s swing, he opens the face at the top and kinda lays it down on the down swing getting a fuck ton of action through impact. I'm not comparing my swing to his just saying that’s my swing thought. Also my spine is jacked up so don’t @me on my posture. Here to solicit feedback so please share your thoughts.
My Uncle “taught” Smylie, junior summer clinics at VHCC 20ish years ago. Said he would regularly banish him to the pool for raising hell, disrupting the clinics and being a wild ass kid.
Your move to the ball is really good. If it is solid keep it up. If it starts falling apart you could look at getting your right hand a little more on top, it will help you get a little more wrist hinge and make you a little less flat which will keep you from having to re-route on the downswing and get you a little more consistency.
It started oscillating the first time he started counting, he waited, then started counting again, got past 10 seconds, didnt ground his putter behind the ball, and it dropped in. And they're giving him par.
I feel like it should be a birdie as well. I heard the rules official tell him it took 13 seconds and ZJ wants a rules guy there when he signs his card
I feel like he was fine tapping it in but didnt want to tap an oscillating ball, so whats he supposed to do? Tough one. I think the rules should state its ok to putt an oscillating ball on the edge of the cup if its outside the 10 second window.
I sincerely hope this is one of the best troll jobs this site has ever seen. If not ..... I don’t even know ..... just get out.
Trying to pick up golfing more regularly. Went to the range this morning, and I can hit my irons pretty straight. The driver I am still slicing about 80% of the time to the right. What’s causing this? Should I shorten my stance? I’m probably 18” apart right now. Read a few things online, and grip was the made one, but I think I’m doing that correctly. Probably need to sign up for lessons, but just want to get by without embarrassing myself for these next couple outings I’m in.
Check ball position first and be sure it is off the left heel. Beyond that your face is open or you are swinging way to the left which effectively makes your face open.
Thanks. I’m good on ball position. I’m going to go back out tomorrow and give it another try. I’m been looking at few videos on line. I think you’re right on the open face.
Lineup the ball with your left big toe. It gives more time for the face to close. The face of your club is probably wide open at the top of your swing which makes it hard to get back square on impact
I'm not the expert some here are, but flattening the angle of my take away and shortening my backswing have turned me into a draw player. Now my miss is to the left when I hit a pull draw. I've mostly eliminated the snap hook, but that was a problem when I first made the change. One thing is for sure, as long as my take away is flat and I turn my shoulders back and through the swing, I'm not missing right.
Yes, I was up late last night and for some reason watched 2 hours of the Korean Open. This guy got into the tournament through the Monday Qualifier and had to make some chip to even get in. I would love to see him win this tournament, then parlay that into a British Open bid and go on and win that. With that swing, I will be rooting him on tonight and hopefully in "the open".
96 today. Worst round in two years. Playing golf in 100 degree heat while violently hungover is apparently a bad idea.
I thought it was a joke or something happened when I saw the first swing. Nope, he evidently practices that way and hits every shot the same
We were talking about him in the locker room today. He's taken the whole left side out of play with that swing.
at his celebration after catching the front of the green on that last shot. Obv really well done but he was so clearly satisfied.
Everything he does is hilarious. I want to see him hit a 30-70 yard shot. Curious of his action with feel shots
He reminds me of the japanese little league teams that don't allow their players to ground their front foot at the plate. Makes it impossible to get your body out front like so many kids do.
Did you just see him out of that deep shag and short sided? The slo mo after his shot was pretty ridiculous. Dude is athletic.
Indeed. After watching (and rewinding), I think a lot of it is "put on". The ball is gone when he starts dancing Edit: it is still hilarious and fascinating
This and flying wedge drill are what I do to help fight my slice. Ive actually been hitting driver with a setup where I pull my right foot inside a good bit at setup. Not as extreme as that drill shows but it's straightened my ball flight out and pretty much eliminated the right side of the fairway. Picked up a good bit of distance too. Gradually working to be more square at setup but as a recovering slicer it's baby step after baby step.
Most of mine was my takeaway and follow through using all arms instead of twisting my trunk. Working on those two things have allowed me to straighten out my 225yd drives with a 40 yd hook to 265+ with a baby fade
Sounds like we are very simliar. I have trouble trusting my pivot to shallow the club and i get into trouble when I try to let my arms and wrists do it.
Played for the first time in two years yesterday since injuring my back. Didn't even hit balls or anything in two years. Shot a 91. I was playing everything at least a club longer than normal and putted pretty well. Playing in a charity golf tourney in early July benefitting my brother so I had to get back into the swing of things.
