Its too bad TLOU has mid tier gameplay But great gameplay might distract from the overall purpose of the experience.
It has excellent gameplay. You don’t play as a ninja or soldier or trained assassin. You’re a man nearing 50 and a 14 yo girl going up against horrors. The gameplay works wonderfully because it makes you feel vulnerable and panicked and it plays into the atmosphere and the tension of it all. I’m no more a fan of stealth games than you are but TLOU does it in a way that makes it feel like actual white knuckled action. Nothing mid-tier about it.
I never felt vulnerable or panicked. And i actually like stealth games. My problem is its clunky, too easy, and theres no ammo scarcity at all.
Idk the gameplay honestly reminded me of the slower paced stealth elements of HZD. There’s difficulty settings as well but I played on normal and it was a solid challenge sans a couple of pretty breezy parts and I always seemed to be kinda low on ammo. I imagine the hard difficulty or survival mode would scratch whatever difficulty itch anyone would seek out.
low on ammo sure, you're supposed to be low. but youre never out. bc ellie has an unlimited amount to throw you. and it drops from enemies if you don't have any
I’m guessing Odin hasn’t played on Grounded. I had to complete the suburban Pittsburgh sniper scene with a board, a brick, and precisely zero bullets because resources are so scarce.
Yea, I was pretty consistently running out of ammo, at the very least with the guns I wanted to use. I would often end up stuck using the revolver or a fucking bottle.
TrustyPatches you need to do Grounded. No HUD, no listen mode, almost no resources. Ammo drops are usually 1-2 bullets when they come at all. You’ll be strangling basically everybody and cry with joy when you find a brick.
Sure, but i bet my fucking fortnite bow that the very next enemy you killed dropped ammo for the weapon you didnt have any for. Use all ammo for best gun Stealth kill errbody Now have so much ammo bc its all for that one gun
bout half my grounded playthrough was also my 100% collectibles playthrough and the latter got old real fucking quick
High-end shiv door loadout on Grounded: -A box of gears -A bottle of supplements -A quarter piece of cloth -Half a blade -Two Hunting rifle bullets You have no idea how much time was wasted opening drawers that were completely empty.
Getting lots of new stuff at E3 it looks like... On today's Sony Blogcast, chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios Shawn Layden revealed the plans for what Sony's bringing to E3 this year. In lieu of a traditional press conference, the publisher will instead focus on "deep dives" for four upcoming exclusives: Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us Part II, Spider-Man, and Death Stranding. Layden also says that Sony will be announcing third-party publishing partners as well as new indie titles. The publisher will not be revealing any new hardware.
was fucking great. Interesting to see the heavy emphasis on melee, I wonder if that will be the case in the real game. With how iconic Ellie is with the bow, I'd be surprised if they took focus away from that.
Just finished it for the first time. Incredible. I felt like Joel a little bit in that I felt more attached to Ellie as the game wore on. The dialogue between the two is absolutely perfect. Can’t wait for two.
If I had 10 chances to forget a game and replay it I’d probably use more than half on TLOU. Just too many poignant moments throughout the game that lead you like a breadcrumb trail to the finale.
Ok, let's do this. Favorite moment in the game? There are so many of course, but if i'm picking one, its the conversation between Joel and Ellie in the house after she runs off from the dam and they go find her.
Sarah’s death may be the most effectual and gut wrenching scene in all of video games. I choose that. Giraffes a close second Ellie’s first kill is up there as well
Strangely the giraffes didn't do for me what they did for others. Sarah's death was rough for sure. The last scene was insane on a different level, my jaw just dropped at the audacity for a studio to end a game that way, so awesome.
Ellie's initiation with the hunting rifle, and the ensuing cutscene where Joel gives Ellie a pistol. It's the first time Joel openly acknowledges Ellie not as a burden, but a partner.
Love that there are so many different ones. The scene where Ellie saves Joel and gets pissed at him for not saying thanks is great too. And then later where he admits she was right and sorta thanks her.
The scene where the restaurant is on fire and Ellie just finished putting the machete in the guy’s head. Joel comes up and the sounds goes to a hum while he consoles her.
Pop the clutch, Suburb sniper, Snare trap turret defense of Ellie, Ellie’s Hunt, First Bloater in the gym are all great gameplay/set piece type moments
Henry shouting at Joel/himself "it's all your fault!", pulls the trigger, then cut to season change. I took a 2 hour walk to calm down after that.
The scene in the house when Joel tells Ellie she's going with Tommy. Opening scene. Scene in the truck when Ellie finds the gay porn. Just funny exchange given all the circumstances
What's crazy about LOU is how many characters they are able to develop and make us legitimately care about. No one has even mentioned Tess.
Good call, her last scene where she is arguing with Joel and finally shows him her bite is incredible. Doesn't hurt that I love Annie Wersching.
I’m going to have to give this another play through. It’s been so long that I’ve forgotten several of the scenes mentioned.
I honestly don’t remember the vast majority of this stuff despite how impactful every moment of that game was. I tend to suffer from short-term memory loss, though, after multiple concussions. I guess I’m who you guys want to be in terms of gaming. Glad I’ve got the remastered version queued up for when I finish Infamous.
New to the thread. Any recent news on last of us 2. Pretty excited for it. Hope that it’s not a let down like a lot of sequels are.
Nothing new recently. There is some doubt whether its still even a 2019 release. Naughty Dog seems to be walking the new Sony line of not talking about the games all that much. Just googled and found this, first thing of any type that I've seen in weeks. https://www.dualshockers.com/the-last-of-us-part-2-concept-art/
Well it’s one of those hurry the hell up but don’t go too fast as we want a good game. First one was amazing. Seems like very few great games come out these days.
Idgaf how long it takes. I just want a worthy sequel. Naughty Dog is not the type of developer to rush through an inferior product, so I am fine with the wait. Started up a new playthrough of BioShock: Infinite and I can’t count how many delays that game got. The end result was one of the best video games I’ve ever played.
I mean, it really is that simple but also plays into what you said about his clout. They kept delaying and needing more money to get the game where they wanted. Afterward, as incredible as the game was, it failed to meet sales expectations. Irrational had to close its doors (to an extent because most of the staff reformed as Ghost Story) because one of if not the greatest video game of all time failed to live up to sales expectations. This is why what Keighly is doing with the game awards is so essential right now in gaming. Video games as a medium don’t have an equivalency to the Grammy or Oscars and that means that sales are the be all end all of the value of a video game. If the game awards can gain some momentum (or more importantly, video games become apart of the oscars) then there becomes value in trying to make the best possible game you can. A legitimate award season for games would be substantial press for devs and distributors.
