Not a long list of people who struggle in their first summer league and turn out to be good to great.
Made that my tag after kd left and Russ signed. What would you have me do? Not sure why y'all trying to get everyone to jump to conclusions on an 18 year olds professional career. I'll go on record to say I think he'll be far better than most folks in this thread would ever give him credit for despite what happens. He's not leading them to any Championships though. Those have already been bought for the next several years in this abysmal league
Lost in all this Trae Young talk is how he has helped make John Collins the best PF to ever come out of Wake Forest.
I like how they had to had POWER FIVE to all those stats since Milton blows him away in ever category.
First half today 0-2 3 assists 3 turnovers 1 steal 1 foul And only played 9 minutes. Just the 6th most minutes on the team. Already losing out on PT lmbo
It's actually more than I expected. Nicolas Batum 7 and 5, 34% Mike Conley. 11 and 5 on 36% shooting and 0% from three Cousins averaged 14 and 10 but shot 33% Stephen Curry posted 17, 4, and 4 but shot 32.5% Drummond only averaged 7 and 5 and shot below 50% Paul George averaged 15 and 8 but shot 33% Rudy Gobert only averaged 5 points and 6 boards but did block 2.4 shots a game Aaron Gordon averaged 8 and 5 on 35% shooting Eric Gordon averaged 19 but shot 32% Draymond averaged 6, 7, and 1 on 28% shooting Gary Harris averaged 19 on 32% Buddy Hield 17 and 5, 33% George Hill 8 and 5, 21% Jrue Holiday 9, 3, and 3, 39% Al Horford 9 and 9, 34% Joe Ingles, over 2 summer league stints, averaged 3 and 4 on 20% shooting Jokic 8 and 6 Markanen 14 and 9 on 29% McCollum averaged 21 but shot 36% Khris Middleton 6 and 3 on 39% Joakim Noah 6 and 5 Kendrick Perkins, 6 and 5 on 38% over 2 summer leagues Otto Porter, 6 and 4, 30% Porzingis 11 and 3 Derrick Rose, 9, 4, and 6, 29% Dennis Schroder, 10 and 6, 34% Ben Simmons averaged 11, 8, and 6 but only shot 36% KAT, 13 and 7, 39% Kemba 16 and 6 on 35% Hassan Whiteside over 3 summer leagues averaged 6 and 6 at below 50% Almost all of these guys blew up in their second summer league stint if they had one. Would seem that 2 straight trash years in summer league would be a pretty good indication that a player isn't going to amount to shit in the NBA. Someone mentioned DeAndre Jordan. He averaged 8 and 8 on 62% in his first summer league And since everyone likes to shit on Austin Rivers, he averaged 10 points on 21.1% shooting
Durant scored a lot in summer league, but he shot 33% and only averaged 2 boards a game. LeBron had nice averages but shot 37%, shot 2/14 in his last game Nate Robinson apparently shot 13% though I can't find the numbers so take that with a grain of salt. My internet sleuthing also says Tim Duncan had what is considered a terrible summer league. Got outdueled by Greg Ostertag head to head.
My educated guess would be that more often than not if a player is trash in summer league they are trash in the NBA. But given most players only get like 5 games in summer league each year, it's not exactly going to produce any statistically significant correlation results. If he is in summer league next year and is trash again, then that is just about the nail in the coffin for him though.
Summer league has way more exposure now so we get to pick guys apart more. Still not a good sign to struggle against a lot of guys that won't make an NBA roster.
Yes, so 1997 Summer League would be after Ostertag's 95-96 and 96-97 seasons. That's 2 seasons, Joe...
i think it's like a play on "Player4Heisman" but he doesn't wear number 4 so they put his number in there in its place but instead of being like "no, we shouldn't do that because it's stupid" they did it
