Nice. I haven’t jumped up to that level. Mostly 2/5 NL.

HR generally has the most action if you find the right table. It can get fun Friday and Saturday nights with the drunks. My personal opinion is that Derby is a lot nittier.

I used to play at hard rock all the time in Tampa. Would drive from Orlando 4 days a week. Hit a bad beat there back in like 08 for 24k. Had the winning Hand so I got 25%. Had 76 of diamonds. Flop was 345 all diamonds. Get it all on the river dude had A2 of diamonds

Gotta love the guys who will get it all in with an overpair on that board.

It wasn’t bad, I didn’t share the whole action. Two limpers in ep, he iso’d in the hj, I 3b in the SB, two folds and he smooth called ip. If he thinks my 3b range is wide here, trying to resteal vs his perceived wide range vs limpers, I like just calling pre ip, keeps his range uncapped. If I’m light and he 4b’s me he blows me off a lot of hands. I check flop and he bets 1/2 pot, I call. I lead turn for 1/5 pot and he tank jams over me. It’s really hard to put me on many Tx hands I’d 3b pre and then lead trips on the turn, so the paired board prob looks safe to him. He’s only really worried about AA/JJ here and that’s a tiny part of my range. I can have something like KQ, AK, AJ, or 89s, just a ton of hands I’m trying to see a cheap river with when I weak lead the turn... and he has to protect his hand.

How deep were the stacks? Sounds like you were both pretty deep to begin (like 200 bbs?)

Was it a rainbow board? I'm guessing at least one FD is in play. Idk, in his spot the problem I see with a tank shove is he's only getting a call from something already beating him. And the way you describe the action, it sounds like he didn't have THAT much of his stack already committed. Truthfully, the actions I hate more for him are the flat pre after your 3-bet and the 1/2 pot bet on the flop. Both actions are too passive imo and leave your range too wide going into that turn.

$5k effective stacks, $90 in the pot with the two limpers + blinds, he makes it $325 to go, I 3b to $960, two folds and he calls the extra $625 - rainbow flop and $2,010 in the pot, I check, he bets $1k, I call, $4k in the pot on the turn... so we both had ~3/4 psb behind. We’re likely getting it in with anything reasonable.

Flatting pre is pretty standard as he blows me off all hands except AA/AK - he wants to keep my range wide when he’s so far ahead and in position.

Leading half pot on the flop is also pretty standard after I check, turning KK into a bluff catcher is pretty weak, letting me see a free card on a broadway two straight is kind of dangerous. It’s a nice sizing to balance value and bluffs. He can bet more, but it really polarizes his range as he’s clearly committed sticking half his stack in by the flop.

Sick side note related to DHMB’s hand. The last 5 times I’ve had KK, I’ve gotten it all in preflop and my opponents have had AA every time. Just crazy the odds of that happening.

My problem with the flat is he really doesn't know this. You've only been playing together an hour or so, certainly not enough for him to have a solid read on you. You could easily be defending your blind as much as 3-betting for value and he's none the wiser going into that flop. My issue with the 1/2 bet after the flop is that he's not priced out much with it, especially when a check screams that you're drawing for something (though we know you weren't). So by that turn, he's sitting with an overpair on a board that still has draws AND FH/trip possibilities and he's got no clue which you're rolling with. Your play is great, his just seems a little too tricky for his own good imo.

Have to consider what hands people are willing to shove pre with. It's basically either that or QQ/possibly AK for most decent TAG regs.

The characters at Derby on a scale of white trashiness and degen are unmatched however. Betting on the dogs with their cheap beer deals is a solid daydrinking activity.

Sure he does, he has the second best starting hand in hold em. He doesn’t need a read on me to know my unpaired hands flop a pair ~30% of the time and sets/2p way less than that.

I’m not really defending my SB all that much, that’s more of a tournament/6m dynamic, over stealing static blinds at a full ring table is asking for a lot of trouble. Much more important in 6m and tournaments, too many land mines at full ring cash. If anything my play looks like a squeeze spot as he can iso the limpers with a wide range ip. So if I’m squeezing a balanced range of marginal hands (89s, 77, JTs, A5s) and value hands (TT+), why does he want me to fold all of those combos?

He flats to keep all my shit hands from folding, allowing me to compound mistakes on later streets. If he 4b’s I'm folding virtually all worse hands. Probably folding JJ/TT/99, he’s only certainly getting action from AK and AA, maybe QQ.

He’s trying to maximize his ev by keeping my range wide.

Yeah, I think there’s some results bias in your analysis. He made a value bet that would price a lot of my weaker hands in and set up a turn/river shove for less than what’s in the pot. He played it pretty standard. I can have a lot of one pair, pair + straight draw, draw + overcards type of hands. He bets full pot and I’m priced out. You don’t want to price out worse hands, that’s not how you make money in cash game poker.

He's making a roughly 50/50 call against a narrow 3-bet range. You never "know" what your opponent has and that is precisely why he is making the call. In fact, if you open his range a bit more, he gets closer to being a 60-70%+ favorite. It's also an uncapped game, so being 200 BBs deep isn't as much of a factor.

If you're playing 1/3 or some tight 2/5 games, I would tend to agree with your analysis a bit more.

That’s been my home casino since it opened. I used to live much closer but now I’m just about as close to the Sands in Bethlehem.

Here’s their poker schedule for July. Tomorrow night will be a shit but nice casual play.
    https://mohegansunpocono.com/content/dam/poconodowns/pdf/playing/July 2018 Poker Calendar.pdf

Do you play cash or tourneys? The cash play is generally terrible in terms of not many players / tons of regulars. 2/5 NL is probably the best game there but I refuse to play against all the regulars. I mostly go for the bigger tournaments lately since I live further away and have a 5 year old now. I used to work 6 minutes away and usually hit it on the way home.

How long are you in town, maybe I will have to make a trip up?

Thanks for the info. I’m flying out Thursday night. I’m in training till around 5-6 everyday and start at 7 each morning so a night tourney might be out of the question as I don’t want to be up late. All they had going tonight was 1/2 NL. Game wasn’t bad as there were a few regs that didn’t mind getting money in. I widened my range more than I should have to catch them. Roller coaster night. In for $200, high point around $470, out for $320.

Some of the nightly tournements will only get 30 or so entries. It’s not uncommon for it to wrap up by 11 with a chopped pot 3-5 ways.

Feel like we discuss him every year around this time of year. He went about that so terribly. When you use a weird looking person as your avatar, people subconsciously picture you as that person. Then he tried asking for money with like zero evidence involved other then saying he did well playing against his friends.

Just wonderful work all around by him.

Depends on the tournament, number of players, and the structure. My local Friday night tournament that has the biggest draw starts at 7. Usually around 200 people and ends around 1 most of the time with a chop. Other tournaments I play in have a bigger field that are multiday and last longer bc it’s played until a winner.
