I started Furies of Calderon this morning. Has anyone read this series? Big fan of Jim Butcher's Dresden series, so I thought I'd give these a shot.
I’ve read all of them and found the series incredibly enjoyable. Like Dresden, the books are all a quick, fun read with enjoyable characters and some good plot twists.
Finished book one. Liked it, but didn't love it. I thought it was a pretty slow start but it obviously picked up once the world building and different storylines started to settle in. I'm hoping this series is similar to the Dresden novels, which were solid for the first few books then became great later on. Also, the audiobook is narrated by Kate Reading, who does the female chapters for The Stormlight Archive. I'm not a huge fan of hers, but thought that was interesting for anyone who wants to listen to this series.
I'm halfway through book two. This one had a much quicker start. The first one took me a while to get into
Just finished Princep's Fury. Spoiler The Alera cliffhanger in the epilogue has really piqued my interest. I'm wondering if this will explain the mystery behind the furies and the world itself. I've been a little frustrated with the lack of explanation about them throughout the series, so this would be a cool way for Butcher to reveal that information.
I'm in the middle of the last in the series, First Lord's Fury. The series started well and has gotten better and better. Great character development and the story line is fun and easy to read. I'd definitely recommend it.
The Blackfish feel free to join our lively discussion since you've started book one. I just started First Lord's Fury today.
I'm about 60% through the first book. I'm listening to the audiobook so I will absolutely butcher character's names and spellings Spoiler It's okay so far. He's definitely not the world builder than Sanderson is (and he doesn't need to be in Dresden because for the most part the world was already built for him by ) I do like that he subverted the Star Wars beginning by not killing off Tavi's aunt and uncle and giving his uncle what seems to be a budding love interest. Chord is a sadistic SOB and I hope Araris gets him. Tavi and Kitai are currently doing their trial. I had to go into work as Tavi seemed to be noticing something alive in the heart of the great tree. Also Spoiler pokemon
Finished the first book. It was good, not great, but still a lot of fun. Started the 2nd book right away. Glad to hear it continues to get better
Already enjoying Academ’s Fury if for no other reason than I’m a sucker for Spoiler People going to “schools” in Fantasy novels
