San Gimignano, Pisa, and Verona were all day trips. Forgot to include Naples/Pompeii, which were day trips as well. Each city had its unique attributes, but it's hard to top Florence. Good size, clean, easy access to Tuscany/Siena, and the best food because of it. We had a dinner at Machiavell's family vineyard that was as good a night as any I've ever had in my life. I spent the month leading up to the trip learning Italian with Duolingo and my plan is to continue that, go back in a year or two over the summer and rent a villa somewhere in the Tuscan countryside.
I've done day trips to Pisa and know enough about Verona to know it's not worth spending the night there, so I figured they were day trips, which is why I asked if the other was as well since I'd never heard of it prior to you mentioning. Florence is indeed very cool, though I haven't been in quite some time.
I had wanted to see San Gimignano for a long time because of Assassin's Creed II and it didn't disappoint. It's a little Tuscan town whose nobility in the late Middle Ages decided to have a massive dick-measuring contest by building enormous towers, so this little town had dozens of massive stone towers. Only a few are left, but if you get to the top of the tallest, Torre Grossa, you get views like this:
You don’t need 7 days but you should definitely do 7 so you aren’t driving hours and hours a day. It takes like 35 hours to drive around if I recall
San Ignacio is a good base if you're doing the ruins or outdoorsy stuff in the area but definitely not worth a visit just for the sake of a visit
Something I’ll add about Venice is I don’t think I’ve ever met a population that so encapsulated the spirit of its city before. There’s this fatalistic, cynical vibe about almost everything people say and do there. It was just so stark to me compared to the warmth of the Tuscans and the more cosmopolitan feel of Rome.
Wouldn’t mind swimming w a whale shark in Georgia https://www.georgiaaquarium.org/exp...-gentle-giants/journey-with-gentle-giants-faq
Make sure you book your next trip to this Russian smokeshow I found after looking through a location’s tagged photos. Only 1,200 followers. https://www.instagram.com/ermakova_alena
I'm gonna get plastic surgery to be a hot blond so I can just travel in skimpy outfits the full time. It is 2018.

On Hanaan Airlines, and to a lesser extent Delta, you can often find sub-$500 flights (generally non-stop) to Beijing from the West Coast. But as was recently mentioned, you're going to spend ~$200 on a visa.

Should I buy Munich to Salzburg train tickets in advance or just do it when we get to Munich a couple of days before? Was planning on just doing it there
I was just reading that the thing to do is buy a Bayern ticket from a machine at the station for 29 euro and it's good for up to 5 people for the day on the regional trains
Anyone been to any stellar places to eat in Berlin? My trip was more about doner and currywurst and shit like that. Buddy just texted me asking. Copenhagen as well?
There's a German guy locally with a food truck and his currywurst is delicious so I'll be giving it a shot
I think my biggest issue was that the quality of what I had was so shit, every time. I had it like 3-4 times. You know when you eat that one bad hot dog that has a little bit of bone in it? It was like that in practically every bite of every currywurst I had. I liked the sauce quite a bit though.
Copenhagen Bæst Reffen (would go for lunch look up their ig) Barburrito (fun as a pregame spot with good tacos) Pastis Alabama social Hija de sanchez Sanchez (both this and hija de sanchez is a former mexican noma chef who grew up in Chicago.) Marv og Ben Palægade (if Danish food needs to be tried) Kadeau (good luck getting a table)
Except it's like 70 dollars for 5 tacos and two Margs I'm about to spend a million dollars on this vacation soon
Anyone ever been to the Azores? Just got invited to go in a couple of weeks using a buddy pass with a free place to stay. Strongly considering.
Has anyone bought travel insurance before? Gotten lucky so far but figured with all the crazy shit ill be doing in NZ it might be a good idea IDK.
I quit my job to travel for the summer, so I bought Atlas. It was like $190 for the package I bought. Was recommended to it from a friend who did remote year. Haven’t used it yet luckily.
Short notice (leave August 18th). Buddy pass, while great and basically free, isn't a guarantee on when you'll get home. Finally, it'll be with one of my best buds, his wife, his little sister and her parents. Granted, this is like my second family, BUT it's still their family vacation. If I were in my 20s it wouldn't feel so weird, but I'm not. Finally, I have a huge trip to Nairobi/Tanzania in about 4 months as well. I'll need to get ducks in line for work.
